At the end of 10 weeks lessons, my son is able to play Ode to Joy on guitar and my daughter plays 4 different pieces at the recital. I'm very happy with their progresses and will continue to sign them up for lessons. So very glad to find this place. The place is very clean and adhere to covid protocols. Staff and kids wear masks the whole time they're inside. Staff are friendly and approachable. They're responsive to email inquiries. Overall, I give Villa Musica a perfect score!

I'm not so thrilled with this place. My daughter has been taking a series of voice lessons here…read more The receptionists are rather ill-informed. The one working today was unable to provide any sort of driving direction to their facility. Unfortunately, today is the recital day. More than our guest is likely to also become lost. On at least two other occasions, the receptionist (a different one than today's) was unaware there was any sort of recital date coming up. Worse. When we heard rumor of an upcoming recital and we asked her directly as to the date and call time, she became annoyed to be bothered with the question. She simply didn't care. They post a warning sign prominently in their lobby to inform you that tuition is due by the 10th of each month or you will incur a hefty $25 late fee. Each time your tuition is one day or more late. When we first signed our daughter up for classes here they were unable to process Visa card payments; this has since been corrected. Unfortunately, I was the recipient of a tersely worded tuition demand call from one of their owners. She spoke with a tone to her voice, as if to say she suspected we were pulling some kind of fast one. There's no price break for taking multiple classes.

Bertrand's Music already did a great job marketing last year to introduce the kids to various instruments, and to provide parents with information about how to secure rental instruments and lessons. The fliers and information were helpful to return to this location. We were fortunate to identify a couple of violins from close friends but they desperately needed restring and repair. We came in Saturday to meet Troy - who was the nicest young man to help us identify the services needed. He provided detailed information about timeline and quote and made the whole experience painless. Mind you~ this is their busiest season at the start of the school year. Even though the building was filled with families, students, crying babies, and various instrument noises.. Troy provided top notch service and executed all needs without a hitch. We submitted instruments on Saturday and received a detailed telephone call by Monday to retrieve the instruments. Even upon return, we had the high fortune of meeting with Troy again. One of his fellow associates (newer in her training) helped us at first. Troy came to the rescue to help clarify the transaction, identified a computer error in billing, and skillfully provided us with the close of transaction needed. He went above and beyond to then offer to tune the instruments using one of their tools behind the counter (and he doesn't even play violin! just knows the ear and use of equipment). The violins sounded lovely. I never met this young gentleman before, but if Troy is the standard of hiring at this type of establishment, he has secured my business and my recommendation to come back to this Bertrand's. He was kind, well informed, and efficient. I was able to have two instruments repaired, tuned and timely prepared for the this wretched band season (I have two very excited musicians and a new box of earplugs.) The prices were reasonable and the service quick. He couldn't have provided better service. Be sure to ask for Troy when you return if you need anything related to music service needs. He made the experience fantastic and we will return and recommend.

There are many more positive reviews for Mr Khoi under "not recommended" - it's Yelp's automated…read moresoftware and there's nothing that can make those reviews active!! yelp is terrible! ---- Our twins have been studying piano with Mr. Khoi for the past 7 years. Looking at the "then and now" photos (then age 5, now age 12) makes my heart smile. We went from using a simple keyboard, to making the decision to haul my childhood baby grand across the country from my parents' home, because my children really love music. Khoi sets realistic expectations and teaches to each child's ability. He encourages them to practice, be committed and do their best, but isn't too strict or stern to make them want to quit. One of my children is naturally more gifted at piano than the other, and Khoi never makes the child with less natural ability feel badly. He always stresses that it's not how advanced you are, it's how the music makes you feel when you play -- if it brings a sense of happiness, joy, peace, calm.. and you're enjoying it, then that's all that matters. Khoi is a wonderful instructor and we feel so blessed to have found him so many years ago. He has helped cultivate my children's love of music and our family really loves having the beautiful melodies from the fill our home

We wanted to look for a teacher who participates in this program. Khoi has been involved heavily in the Guild for many years. Khoi is an excellent teacher, the kids love him. He's very detail oriented and very clear on his expectations for the kids. He gives us updates on their progress and what they need to work on. Khoi is very punctual and reliable, which I appreciate, as that was a problem with our previous teacher. I highly recommend Brightstar PianoForte Studio.

Update in response to the owner's reply: To San Diego Music…read moreAnd Art owner/contact Max: Your response actually reinforces the reason I left this review. Your instructor, Olga, publicly criticized my child in front of other parents and children. My child is neurodivergent. At times, he may have difficulty following directions, transitioning, or completing more complex instructions. That does not give any instructor the right to shame, embarrass, or publicly criticize a child. What is especially unacceptable is that your staff was already aware of my child's needs. Instead of speaking with me privately, giving me a warning, or trying to understand what support he might need, Olga chose to criticize him in front of others. When I brought this concern to you, I expected the owner to at least investigate what happened and listen to both sides. Instead, you immediately defended your instructor and treated my child as if he were simply the problem. You did not appear interested in understanding what actually happened or in finding a constructive solution. Instead, you joined in criticizing my child. Then, rather than addressing my concern about how your instructor handled the situation, you suspended my child's classes for an entire month. Children--especially neurodivergent children--deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. If a child is struggling to follow instructions, the appropriate response is to communicate privately with the parent and work toward a solution, not publicly embarrass the child and then blame him when the parent raises concerns. Parents should know how situations like this may be handled here before deciding whether this is the right environment for their child.

Quyen possesses exemplary knowledge on both the physiological and cognitive approaches to studying music. She is quick to assess technical problems with music and offer unique solutions. My daughter has been taking cello lessons from Quyen for several years…read more Quyen has been incredibly helpful to her about all aspects of music from her excellent pedagogy and taste in choosing repertoire for students to career advice about being a musician, the real-life business aspects of a musical career and knowledge about instruments, bows, and locations where you can find trusted sellers. It is no surprise that my daughter is principal cello in her high school orchestra, and an outstanding student in her music theory classes. Cultivating musicality in young students new to the technical part of performing music is a huge challenge, but Quyen does this very, very well. The quality of her student recitals throughout the past several years is a testament to her talent as a superb music teacher. Not only extremely professional, she is also very well-connected in the network of Southern California string performers, staying current with new trends in classical music and using this knowledge to teach her students not only the technical aspects of performance, but helping them also develop taste and find their musical style so they can perform with the musicality which distinguishes true performers from merely technical players. I would not hesitate to suggest her to friends looking for a teacher for their children (I have done so many times) at any level from beginners to advanced performers. I cannot recommend her highly enough to parents looking for the best string instrument education for their children within San Diego County.
