EXCELLENT VALUE FOR EXCELLENT SERVICE…read more I've been taking piano lessons at Young's School of Gospel and Jazz for over a year now, and I have truly enjoyed every lesson. Tim is a very experienced and passionate teacher that focuses his lessons on your personal goals. The first lesson is a free consultation to understand these goals. As a music producer, my piano goals were much different than someone training to be a classical composer. The school has thoroughly met my personal goals and I have met other students that are meeting their different goals. Young's School not only provides fantastic piano lessons, but also life lessons and empowerment. Tim leverages his experience to provide context into having a career in music and promotes real world application of lesson material. Lastly, whenever I leave a lesson from Young's School, I feel challenged, confident, and ready to practice to get to the next level!

It was on my bucket list to return to piano. I have not had lessons since age 12 or played much…read moresince age 20. Now in my mid-sixties, I signed up for weekly lessons for the two months I was off during the summer. My fingers are clumsy, I do not have an ear, had forgotten how to read music, have forgotten what I used to know, and do not learn as easily as I did at 12! Since I perform so badly, my teacher, Lafayette Gilchrist - a working jazz musician and a tower of patience and diplomacy - cannot know how far he has brought me in only seven weeks! My goals were to read music again and eventually accompany elementary school students who sing. Thanks to Lafayette, I have achieved a modest level of literacy; I can recognize, choose and attempt to play music of a level appropriate to where I am now. I understand some notation I didn't know before and am no longer intimidated by anything that looks like I should be able to learn to play it. I can see myself accompanying children one day. Much unlike my 12-year-old self, I now enjoy practicing. I see all of this as a boost in my quality of life. I can't thank Lafayette or the Music Workshop enough and hope to return the next time I have a chunk of time off.

That all being said, I make sure to rush to Bill's when I need stuff because the alternative is going home and then going to...well, another store with an instrument in the name, and that has never been a good experience unlike Bill's. A few years ago I made an online purchase for a used pedal from Bill's. I showed up to get it and as it turns out, they had no idea where it was. They had spend an hour looking for it after I purchased it, and then they spend another 20 minutes looking for it after I arrived. To make it up to me they offered me a brand new version of the pedal at the mid point of the difference between the used one and the new one. I took that offer because it was a great deal. Since then I have bought 3 more pedals from them over the years, a microphone, and a whole lot of accessories. If I want to purchase another guitar at any point, I will definitely hit them up if possible.
