I was pleasantly surprised by this museum. I came to Hameln to be in the city of the Pied Piper and this museum provided the perfect overview and introduction. They even had a temporary exhibit that shows the legend's portrayal in other cultures. I thought the Pied Piper content was very well done. There are other parts of the museum. The ground floor contains old coins and the higher floors contain other artifacts from the city, only slightly touching upon WWII. In order to see the performance of the mechanical theater, I asked the front desk and they sent someone up to turn it on. They give a short introduction in German prior to the show and they stay in the room with you as you watch it. It was delightfully strange.
