I have never thought about rating a museum as 1 star, but this really did something special (or…read morelacked anything special) to afford this designation. The 12 Euro ticket comes with entrance into the main exhibitions as well as access to most of the gardens. Keeping in mind that this is a Contemporary Art Museum, I kind of understand the curation, but the artwork was extremely obscure and lackluster. For example, one entire exhibition was dedicated to materials sourced from Portugal, Dubai, and Greece (?) -- marble, timber, and I-beams. It was quite literally 5 pieces of each arranged into haphazard shapes and heights with speakers attached to them to mimic the audio of construction...Underwhelming is not a strong enough word. The rest of the "exhibits" mimicked this contrived art and did little to peak the interest of the observer. After agonising for an hour and trying to find a semblance of talent, you can head off into the gardens where...surprise surprise, there's a ton of construction and things are barely opened or labelled. You basically graze around woods without any direction or guidance, and try to avoid the jackhammers. If it wasn't clear, I feel strongly about advising people against this museum, especially since it's a ways away from the city centre.

We brought my grandmother to the museum who struggled walking long distances. There were free wheel chair rentals near the front desk you just leave an ID. Overall a great experience, wish we had more time to enjoy everything!

It is filled with several floors walking down the history of photography from the dawn of the camera to the digital age. You can pace yourself to whatever run time you have available. I spent about 45 minutes to an hour and was happily entertained. There are also a few good window views from this old converted prison. If you have extra time, consider their rotating special exhibition. However, entry to that side of the museum will come with a small charge.

Lots of very large rooms that have very few photographs in them. I wanted to see more, more, more, but it was not to be. The did have a few displays of photography equipment, some of it quite old. This was nice to see but still limited. There is currently a temporary exhibit of photographs by Frida Kahlo but it seems to only be open for groups and pre-booked tours. That room came as a total surprise behind the ornate, closed door. I purchased my tickets in advance online. They're good for any time during the date you reserve. I made sure we arrived at 9am (opening), and there were only six people including us two in our tour. Our group pretty much had the entire building to ourselves. The tour guide was phenomenal! When we left about 45 minutes later, the queue was already long! Buy your tickets in advance, get there for the first tour, and enjoy this spectacular building! I was truly wowed.

The main attraction on this tour is the Arabian Room. It's the only room that caused many wows and…read moregasps. It shows the Ottoman influence. It might seem trite to mention the floors but they were truly the work of craftsmen. In one room the floors created an optical illusion. In another room the floors featured wood from Brazil. This little museum is so unsuspecting... it packs a really big religious and art history punch!…read more Most of the museum is based on the life of Santa Joana, who was a princess-turned-saint and inspired many artists to capture moments throughout her glorified life. The old convent has such a great feel to it, and the baroque-style church housed within is a serious showstopper. You can even walk up onto the altar! Almost nothing in this museum is roped off or barricaded, which is something I've never seen before with things that hold this much historic value. It really heightens the experience. It was one of the highlights of my time in Portugal, and I could not be happier I visited, also for the low low cost of 5 Euro! Whaaaaaaat? The only thing I'd mention that I was not a fan of is the custom merch in the little gift shop. It's very "cutesy" and child-like; seriously odd. Don't miss this if you are in Aveiro - a must see!!!

The residence was occupied by Alfonso (Count Of Barcelona) future Duke of Braganza! Titles and properties eventually passed to Fernando II! It's actually the…read moreNadir Alfonso Museum of Contemporary Art and we just so happen to go in there was an exhibit of Alfonso's work--art and architecture. The galleries are large and bright as you might expect in a museum. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I the exterior is made with architectural precast concrete and granite. Marble accents up here in doorways and and a small meeting room and the verandas. Nice skylights. The entrance is best from the city street, where we parked in front of some stores.

The wood is throughout the house on the floors and ceilings. The rooms hold paintings of family members and paintings of the period. Lots of cool artifacts are shown, but don't touch! The gardens were meticulously kept and are frankly some of the best grounds that I have had the Blessings to walk upon.
