Iconic paintings from Lucio Fontana ( the renowned "tagli" or cuts ) are on display as well. The collection is located inside a gorgeous villa built by entrepreneur Umberto Faravelli at the beginning of 1940. Only negative note is the pricey entrance fee which I hope will help improve the cracks in walls and pavements in the otherwise magnificent Mediterranean garden surrounding the villa.

I would have loved to see Chagall's timeline, but nevertheless, what we did see was amazing!!! The museum was not large and overwhelming. His work was beautifully displayed. A lot of interesting biblical pieces, glass stained pieces, and a few circus gypsy references. Plenty of comfy benches to sit and resonate. Drawings were displayed as well. A small souvenir bookshop was located next to the museum where I bought a few art postcards and a Chagall museum book. Talented artist and so worth the visit! Must see for sure

Not a fan. Me, on the other hand, I find joy, inspiration and melancholy in Chagall's work. His stained glass inspires. His canvases touch on culture, religion and history, and also weave in colorful influences of a later life spent in the South of France. Tucked in an affluent hillside in Nice, the museum can be booked ahead or tickets purchased in person. They have many large-scale oil paintings, along with stained glass, mosaics, watercolors and pen and ink drawings. Recommended. The museum has an outdoor cafe, for those who want a quick pick me up after the museum, and to linger.

Being so appalled she bought the grounds and the rest is history. Those same trees still stand today and they are magnificent There were also lots of orange trees, a lovely garden, original Renoir paintings within the house, family photos, and a nice film featuring Jean Renoir talking about growing up on the estate, and a few with Renoir himself painting in his wheelchair and surrounded by friends. Doing what you love for your whole life is definitely something to which we should all aspire Be sure to stop by!

Musée Picasso is an art museum devoted to the works of Pablo Picasso. It is located in Antibes in…read morethe beautiful Chateau Grimaldi, which has a great seaside location. Not just housing Picasso's works, it also was his home for six months in 1946. I liked my experience at this museum, though I would attribute it more to its idyllic location than the art content. I did like many of the Picasso sculptures housed here, but found the overall collection on the slight side if you are looking to see a large number of Picasso pieces here. This was evident as the museum supplemented the space with pieces from other artists. I do think it is worth a visit if you are doing a day trip to Antibes. There is a public market (Marche Provencal) nearby that would make for a good place to visit before or after the museum.

Best room is with the artist who's fascinated with the vibrant blue and women using their bodies to paint on canvases. Everything is translated into multiple languages. Overall it deals with modern Italian art from the 1960-70s. Lots of films in Italian.

I've been to the Tate Modern, San Francisco MoMa, and Bilbao Guggenheim, and I found the art in this place just too bizarre for my taste. There were 3 floors of exhibits and it was enough for me - the first floor was a temporary exhibit and was so strange. There was a giant " 1-bedroom " apartment exhibit that looked like someone was moving in or out of their apartment and didn't unpack with water bottles and other trash on top of water bottles. There were blankets in dry cleaning bags, and other ordinary pieces you'd find just hung or laying on the floor. The other exhibits were slightly less weird, but there were just a lot of canvases or fabrics painted or dyed in all one color. The Yves Klein stuff all in blue was interesting and very colorful. But other things like a rope died different colors, a pile of rocks, and other things that I could have made myself was not impressive. Maybe if there was an audio guide that explained things better, it would be have been more interesting but I spent an hour in there and had enough. I've never heard more snickering in a museum in my life. The entrance fee is 10€ but free for students, but I would have just preferred to get a coffee something instead. No offense to those who like really modern art, but this was just not for me. Plan to spend 1-1.5 hours here, it's not super big. It was raining and cold in Nice when we went, so we didn't feel like we wasted a good day outside, but this would not be my first choice of things to do in Nice.

The place looks…read morelike a fortress both inside and out, and with a whimsical statue near the entrance that put Gayle and I in the appropriate bemused and intrigued mood. We were here for the "The Dark Side of Luzzati" exhibition and enjoyed it and with other artistic protagonists thrown in as a bonus. This place is especially recommended for creative dreamers and other out-of-the-box types of all ages.
