We were here for the "The Dark Side of Luzzati" exhibition and enjoyed it and with other artistic protagonists thrown in as a bonus. They had a great selection of all sorts of well cooked foods and you help yourself, which is great when your Italian is rudimentary or if you don't eat meat and still want something nice to eat. Don't go too late or the sweet dishes all get eaten up. You have to go through the front part of the cafe down the back to get to the buffet. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming to hungry tourists - everyone else seemed to be locals which is a recommendation.

The medieval section was well done, but I believe it is a visiting exhibition. The permanent collection was different. While there were multiple problems with this museum, including the high temperature on the top floors, and the lack of historical context, explanatory material and analysis provided to visitors, the main reason I'm writing this review is to warn anyone with mobility or balance issues that it is not accessible. It has a main stairway for accessing the second and third floor that is meant to be a modern design, but is really just a series of large, unsafe, slanted, slick pieces of marble. Please be safe. I really hope this review can help someone who would be hurt by that stairway, to avoid this museum. There are many more, excellent museums in Genova.
