A large group of friends hired Luxury 4 for a week on the Murray River, and what a great, relaxing…read moreholiday it was! The mooring of the boat and driving was fairly manageable by one of our crew with a little previous experience, and others were happy to get a bit muddy tying us up to trees on the bank each day. The boat itself was very comfortable with most mod cons that you could need - i.e. when they worked. We had problems with the generator starting, the oven not sealing properly, the TV remote not working and the DVD player not working! Likewise the embarkation and disembarkation processes left a lot to be desired. Eight of the nine passengers were over 60, but we had to clamber up and down a 3 metre muddy bank to get our gear on board i.e. food, drinks and clothes for 7 days for 9 people, with no physical assistance from staff. We had to contact the staff pre-disembarkation to organise an alternate landing place (they did not contact us, nor did they phone us back as they had agreed). So again we ploughed across mud taking our rubbish bags to a trailer. I found some old boards to lead to the gangplank to try to avoid some of the mud. To be fair, the river had been in flood prior to our trip and their gangway had been damaged, but for more than $4600 we thought that our gear would have been loaded and unloaded for us. We were then asked to wait while the fuel levels were measured. The cost of this would then be taken from our $800 bond. We waited for about 40 minutes and then phoned the company, only to find out that they had been delayed. Over the next three weeks I contacted the company 6 times trying to find out how much the cost would be. They promised each time to get back to me, but no response was ever forthcoming. Eventually a cheque for $240 arrived, later than specified by the terms outlined in their policy statement. So at a cost of $560 we think we had been using gold-laced fuel for the trip! To summarise, the trip was lovely, the boat was comfortable, but the loading/unloading disorganisation and the appalling communication with the company put a real dampener on the experience.
