Below is the letter I sent to Hampton Suites...and received no response:…read more November 28, 2025 To: Hampton Inn and Suites, St. Petersburg, Fla. Given our long history with Hilton properties and the exceptional stays we have enjoyed there, my husband and I were looking forward to a few days along the Northeast St. Pete waterfront...an area of high-end restaurants, museums, and condos. The Hampton Inn Suites were perfectly placed, and with their roof-top pool and lovely terrace, something we naturally looked forward to. However, almost immediately our expectations were undermined, and from day one until day three, there was a daily disappointment. 1. As we first entered our assigned room, we were repelled by an odor my husband described as "jock-room sweat." The smell was really over-powering. From the bathroom to the bed linen to the simple ambient air of the space, "old sweat" and "body odor" followed you. I went down to the lobby and requested another room, explaining the situation. 2. This was our first encounter with the staff. The desk attendant was a 20-30- year-old man, who mumbled under his breath, didn't seem to know how to use the computer, and as soon as I spoke to my husband, would turn back to his phone. An older man, who appeared to be the Manager appeared from a back room and I asked his help. He too appeared puzzled by how to find a different room, and certainly, no one was offering apologies for the reason. Luckily, another desk attendant who was just leaving, stepped in and found another room. I asked to check it out first. 3. The new room, on another floor, but in the same quadrant as the first, smelled better, but smelled...different. We moved all of our belongings there and began to refresh ourselves for dinner. It was then that we noticed what would continue for the next three days: powerful rotating odors that would fill the space and then dissipate. The first was the smell of burnt food, rolling in through the bathroom inside vent. Later, it was the overwhelming odor of Lysol. Other times, and there were many, there was the aroma of someone, somewhere having had a bowel movement...a smell that completely filled our room...and then dissipated. We had difficulty sleeping due to the smells that seemed to settle on us in our beds. But there was more. 4. Awakening in the middle of the night, there was the sound of what might have been "erratic scratching." Having experienced a cabin once where mice ruled the night, this was the same kind of sound. Constant, quick, slow, a pause, a restart of short 'scratching' noise. It did not stop all night. Nor did it for all three nights. By the second night, we discovered a leaking air conditioner that dropped individual drops on the window ledge outside--on, off, faster, slower, but continuously. The paint was worn away, so this obviously was an old problem, never fixed. 5. In the meantime, breakfasts downstairs produced an interesting parade of individuals from behind the desk: a new 'Manager,' who was an angry-appearing man who declined to say good-morning to me and quickly disappeared; an older woman with unwashed hair attending the desk, and speaking in a voice loud enough for an arena; a sullen youth acting as parking valet, who never raised his head from his phone, and finally, a man wearing flip-flops, a dirty T-shirt, and shorts hanging low on his hips--who appeared to come from outside--who disappeared into the staff room behind the desk. Laughing with the older lady desk attendant, he then shuffled over to get a plate of breakfast, and shuffled back behind the desk where they apparently ate together. He did this twice, and eventually, with the woman, laughed his way out of the hotel, into a parked car, and drove away. He appeared to be her guest, but not of the hotel. All in all, I write this with surprise and disappointment. Surprise because I would have thought Hilton prides itself on being an elite and client-forward company. Disappointment, because obviously, we will never stay there again, and no doubt our experiences will be heard by many of our friends. I wish you well in bettering your company and providing what we've always believed to be exceptional experiences there.

I was tired and yet she made me smile! And also Aaron at the valet who gave me a good tip about parking for free right by the hotel since I got in so late and would be heading out before the parking meters would start charging again. Both of them went above and beyond and turned a pretty good, but average hotel stay into a 5 star stay. The location is perfect- walkable to a bunch of shopping and restaurants in downtown St Pete. The hotel appears to be valet only, but there are other options nearby too. The interior is clean and updated and the room was comfortable. I appreciated that they had breakfast included, and definitely grabbed some yogurt and eggs before heading out. Overall, good hotel, lovely staff!

The lobby and overall appearance initially seem very nice, and there are definitely some positives here. The pool area is well maintained, the fitness center is also very nice, and the Crabtree hygiene products smell amazing. The hotel offers several convenient amenities including a coffee shop, bar, restaurant, and a small store for late-night snacks or essentials. For business travelers, the conference or ballroom spaces also appear spacious and well suited for events. Parking was valet-only when I arrived, but the unlimited in-and-out service was definitely a plus. One thing I found a little unusual was that the bellman was off duty, so while they did provide me with a luggage cart, I was asked to bring it back downstairs myself. Unfortunately, once I got beyond the lobby, the experience became a bit more underwhelming. The elevators are noticeably worn and could definitely use updating. My room itself was where things really fell short. The carpet was visibly dirty, the beds were not very comfortable, and the bathroom feels overdue for a renovation. Housekeeping could also be more thorough, as I found hairs in the shower upon arrival. I did appreciate that the staff provided a list of recommended local restaurants along with a map, although it would have been much more helpful if the hotel's location had been clearly marked. Overall, this hotel has some strong amenities and good features, especially for business travel, but the guest room cleanliness and condition need improvement. I'll be here for a few more nights and may update my review if my experience changes.

The hotel initially issued two violations, then removed the first after admitting it was incorrect -- but refused to remove the second, even though I wasn't even in the room at the time. What was most concerning is that the front desk manager told me there are "never false readings" and that I would need to dispute the charge with my credit card rather than have the hotel properly investigate or resolve it. The room's AC was not functioning, causing excessive humidity and poor air circulation. After I was moved to a properly functioning room, there were no further alerts or issues. After reading other reviews, it's clear this has happened to multiple guests. Proceed with caution.

The water constantly goes from hot to cool and you're constantly trying to adjust the temp. Also, the bar soap?? It feels like a slimy film no matter how much water you wash your hands with. Elevators are awkward, you have to scan your key card to go to your floor, but the scanner doesn't always register the card right away so the elevator starts moving and I've seen multiple people miss the floor they wanted to go to because of this. Small thing, but they don't supply tissues in the room. :/ I would consider this a pretty mid hotel, the Hyatt across the road is a lot better in my opinion.

Unfortunately, the overall experience fell short of expectations. While the location was excellent, the rooms were noisy due to street sounds and thin walls, making restful sleep difficult. The property also had a persistent musty odor, which detracted from the ambiance. Staff interactions were underwhelming, assistance felt minimal and lacked the hospitality you'd expect. Additionally, the elevators were notably slow, adding unnecessary delays. The most disappointing aspect was the rooftop bar, Cane & Barrel. Marketed as a highlight, it failed to deliver. The view consisted largely of a parking lot rather than the picturesque cityscape we anticipated. Seating arrangements were ok but the atmosphere lacked energy. Service was slow, and the drinks were poorly crafted both in taste and presentation. What should have been a memorable rooftop experience ended up being the biggest letdown of the stay.

Its central location in the city that is close distance in Uber from the Dali Museum and the Chihuly Collection, walking distance from the Museum of Fine Arts and the St. Pete Pier, and close to a barrage of restaurants, bars, and clubs in the downtown area. The luxurious, corner-end bedroom were quite cozy and comfortable with an elongated hallway that had a dresser and a bougie fridge, a clawfoot tub in the gorgeous bathroom with red-painted and marble-tiled walls along with a standing shower with excellent water pressure and tiled enclosing. The golden-framed mirror that hung over the clawfoot tub was really stylish as well as modern and bourgeoise. The four-post bed with down comforters and bedding was quite nice along with the velvet reading chairs, coffee table desk, extra set of dressers, and wardrobe closet in dark mahogany wood. We had consistent internet connection that was provided complimentary. They had hair dryers, toiletries, and digital programming for the LCD TV, and we could enjoy some chill time with the dark burgundy curtains. The spare robes in the wardrobe closet was nice as is the iron and ironing board. While having access to the rooftop bar that became a nightclub in the evening was nice as we was the Birth and Vine restaurant (which had deliciously rich food), overall, the amenities were not as plentiful as you may think for what you pay nightly. The complimentary breakfast was scarce in selection and variety. It's really there if you need to grab an apple, a packaged muffin, or bland bagel on the go. They do have boxed individual cereals with milk as well as hot coffee and hot water to use for tea (they didn't have much of a variety of tea bags). If you want room service, the hours are limited, and we preferred to walk down the street to hit up some other restaurants. While the express check-out and luggage storage is nice, if you want to self park, it's not that convenient as most of the lots are away from the building. We valeted for the time we were there. While that wasn't as expensive as other places, if you're looking to self park, you're still going to spend a few dollars depending on where. Don't do street parking as you will get tickets. For the money you spend, the Birchwood offers luxurious rooms with direct walking distance to all the museums, restaurants, bars, and other attractions St. Petersburg has to offer. There's plenty to enjoy with the hotel, especially, if you're looking to hit the city during the day and night, while enjoying the glamorous rooms and bathrooms.

Since 6 am businesses begin loading and unloading it's loud all the time. If you are a light sleeper, like me, this isn't the place for you. The parking experience is quite terrible you can valet but they don't keep cars on grounds, therefore it takes a while to get your vehicle. You must text valet in advance. Everything in this hotel is touch-less/person-less. We needed additional toilet paper and had to text the system, it's not as easy as calling front desk. The room itself was nice, had a kitchen with everything you need. Only one roll of toilet paper though! I would not stay here again because of the noise but I can see how this would be good for a younger type of person who wants to party all night and wake up and do it again! Walking distance from many restaurants, supermarket, and waterfront (20+ minute walk). Fully stocked kitchen with an electric stove, pots and pans, utensils, coffee maker, tea kettle up on the top cabinet, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, washer/dryer with liquid pods. Bathroom was standard and clean. Nice balcony. Front desk was helpful and present at all hours. There's also an online chat/store where you can request products that you may want (ex. free dental set if you forgot it at home). I like the curfew - doors are locked at 9 PM. Cons: Only street parking available or valet if you want. BED was decent, but I've slept on better. The ceiling does occasionally have tiny pieces falling down, which was near my sitting area in the kitchen, but that was the only area. It could be different for other rooms or maybe none at all. Note: They only do house keeping if you request it. I had a wonderful pool side view. I wish I went out to the pool during my stay. It looked lovely and clean. I saw more people sunbathing down there than swimming. I can definitely see how folks can spend time here as a long-term rental. You have everything you need here. I could definitely see myself coming back here.
