However, after going around the back when visiting the Great Neck Library I made a discovery... the front of the park. The entrance to Lynnhaven Park is off Old Donation Parkway, then a turn on Bayne Dr. It is a little tricky. The park is across the street from the fire station and library. There is parking at this location. By far the biggest reason my review jumps up to three stars is the availability of joint public/school tennis courts. Eight courts that can be lite at night, they are super nice. Nearby Lynnhaven Middle School also uses them and I imagine has priority when the need. There is league play at this location and a schedule is posted. Other than that this is open for anyone to use. Also there is a ball field that appears to be solely public and has an awesome infield. Outfield could use work as it is ridden with crab grass and patchy. It is also a lite field for night time play. Lynnhaven MS has there own ball field beside this one to utilize. A newer playground and swings sets on a bed of mulch was a welcome find too. There are four small shelters around it with a picnic table. There is no field for recreation in this area. A building behind the tennis courts houses the restrooms. However, they are out of order and locked up which I have a problem with. The water fountain is also out of order. This needs to be rectified and put back online for the park. At this point a port a pot is being used. It is located right outside the tennis court entrance. I have never seen one VB park that utilizes a port a potty as its sole means for visitors to utilize. The crowning jewel of this park are the tennis courts, they are that nice. But without restrooms and a very aging basketball court detached from the rest of the park I cannot justify moving it up further. Check this park out, it's right under your nose off of First Court.

Mind you it's not a new park. Unusual for VB Parks Department to not be on top of. The location has high visibility off Great Neck Rd. It's North of Virginia Beach Blvd. parking is by a small gravel lot. Overflow nearby business across the street on off hours I suspect. The landscape is non existent, but not needed. The grass was freshly mowed and tall pines add shade and beauty. Unfortunately there was a lot of debris around the basketball court. I would consider the area to be safe. London Bridge Park is straight forward. It has a ball field and full court basketball court that's it No shelter, no restrooms and no playground. I saw at least one trash can at the entrance and it was within it boundaries. I have never witnessed a baseball game in progress when passing by. It has a great infield and fenced in back stop. The outfield is level and not fenced in. There are no lights for night play. It is open to the public and assume there is a schedule of games during the season. The full court basketball is not regulation length. It has a concrete floor that looks newer. The hoops and nets in great shape. No lights for after dark play. It appears the debris was recent, like probably last night with it being Friday. All of the trash was located within 25 feet of a can. Since I had the time I picked it all up. If your interested in baseball or basketball before sunset this is your place. 3.5 rounding down with no amenities and debris.

It was one of the neighborhood parks updated not long ago by VB Parks & Rec. -- The Playground -- The playground area with wood chip mulch is best for elementary school aged children. The equipment is in good condition; with close supervision it's good for younger children (note that there are gaps in the openings along the playground system). There is one intermediate swing and regular swings. There's also a climbing structure. The playground is in partial shade. -- Benches & Pavilions -- There is one pavilion with two picnic tables beneath it. There is a trash can not far from it and another by the basketball courts. There are several benches along the perimeter of the playground. -- Walking Areas -- There are no paths or walking areas within the park. There's also no large fields or wooded areas. -- Sporting Equipment -- There are two basketball hoops on a basketball court. -- Amenities -- There are no toilet amenities, so not ideal for a long visit. -- Parking -- There is a street parking available. -- Things to Note -- During peak times, it's usually very busy with kids. It's a convenient park location for the neighborhoods of townhomes nearby. -- Takeaways -- This is an above average centrally located neighborhood park. The main attractions are its playground and basketball court. It's worth a visit for children and youth and is a great resource for the families who live nearby. I wouldn't suggest traveling out of your way for it though as there are lots of other parks in VB to enjoy, many with more offerings. Right now with the need for social distancing, I prefer to try to frequent less busy parks.

There is a swing set for infants and another for bigger kids. There are several climbing sets as well as a great climbing rope/tarp unit that has a rather large slide at the top. So great for the toddler/bigger kids to not get bored with. There's also a smaller playground set for little toddlers with a cool roller slide. In case that's not what you're looking for, there's a small skate area that I think would be fun for beginners. Lots of grassy area in case you bring a pup or the kids want to run around for a game of tag. Just down the path, there's a basketball court that looks almost new. This park has more than I expected and the little one loved it! Will be coming back for sure.

It was so nice to go down memory lane and bring my kids back to their first park ever, from the time they were born to when we left! They don't remember it of course, but I do! When we were stationed here the first time around, we lived in Brigadoon and this was our go-to park. I remember pushing them on the baby swings, hearing them giggle as they went down the slides and also being absolutely terrified as a first time mom that they would fall off one of the open ledges with their wobbly little legs. The park has been well maintained 6 years later and they've made an addition, a skate boarding ramp. The park also features a playground structure with ramp, baby swings, regular swings, a basketball court, a grassy field, benches facing every play area and a picnic table with a shelter equipped with a trash can. This is where our little group enjoyed our delicious lunch from Glory's. The kids had a great time playing before and after our meal. There's also ample parking. This park will always have a special place in my heart! Stay safe, Friends!

It wouldn't surprise me if part of the campus is actually located in Norfolk. The Wesleyan Drive gatehouse is easily accessed by turning south off Northampton Boulevard just east of the I-64 interchange. One first passes the Norfolk Academy campus before reaching Virginia Wesleyan. The Student Center is named for a major donor in Coastal Virginia. The center certainly lives up to her name. I was there for a late afternoon/early event which was held in a large 2nd floor meeting room. Finding the Student Center on the larger than expected campus was quite easy thanks to detailed directions from the gatehouse employee. University & event personnel directed me to a spacious parking area that was a much longer walk than I would have hoped for. But it was perfect for able bodied students. Another pleasant university employee greeted me at the door & gave directions to the event. This, too, was a little further than my arthritic body would have preferred but was perfect for the students it served. At 6pm and upon my exit the portions of the Student Center I walked through were teeming with student activity. There were multiple physical activities, socializing & a small area to order food. I passed a bin filled with volleyballs for student use with students sitting on an adjacent ledge. The center is clean, new, ascetically pleasing and a definite positive for both the students & university. The only negatives I noted were that the entrance sat off the main street through campus in an area that was treed on one side. Even in this gated, fenced in campus it would have made me nervous without university personnel keeping watch. I'm certain that this doesn't bother the young students at all. I also would have preferred closer parking. Ditto on the fact that this isn't a problem for the able bodied students it serves. The student center appears to be the heart beat of campus. The Batten family donation was put to good use.

It opened in 1992 at a cost of 18.6 million dollars with it's main purpose to provide a house for the men and women basketball teams. However, the building is much more than a gymnasium that serves as the location for VWC basketball, and volleyball. It's 137,000 square feet is the nucleus for most student recreation activity on campus. Let me go over a few of the things that are housed in this beautiful building. Men and Women Basketball and Volleyball with an elevated track above. A second gym with hoops, but serves almost any activity including archery, fencing among others. A dance studio, a student study area, a student cafeteria, and many athletic offices and several classrooms at the second level. There is also the schools only book store that sells everything Marlins and of course textbooks. The Jane P. Batten also offers a food court named Sandella's which cranks out some really delicious food and smoothies. A large dining room in the food court accommodates a lot of students. To the back is a nicer lounge area with chairs and couches. This area has some fun recreation things for the students to do such as ping pong, Foosball table and one of those long tables with circular pucks that slide down on saw dust. On the far side of the student center is a rock climbing wall, a large fitness area, three racquetball courts and a 25 yard 8 land swimming pool with hot tub. To the back of the food court is an outdoor sand volleyball pit. Ample parking is around the building, but be warned if there is a campus event all best are OFF!!! You must always check in with campus security before admittance. They are nice and will help direct you if your unsure where you are going. The Marlins have much to be proud of and this building is a testament to campus leaders who made it happen with the kind assistance of the Batten family.

I saw the time lady I don't need you yelling at me. We active duty gym to destress from the stressors of work and just to get yelled out at the gym. Nice workers man. - sometimes we get kicked out early cause they say, "we have to clean". Bruh I come here everyday and they all sit at the front desk on their phone and watch tv. How bout you clean or do something while your working instead of kicking everyone out so you can do yo damn job at the end. Second the basketball court is there for nothing, been at this base for 4 years and not once been allowed to play basketball on the court, what do you it for ???? Golf ???. I know there are a lot of service members who would love to play basketball but we can't we are forced to play outside on tennis/basketball court while the basketball hoops are broken, 1 is made for dwarfs to play and the other court is broken crooked like the workers here. Third every time I bring my bag into this place they all look at me and yell out your bag in the locker room. I get the no clutter in the weight room but you would think I have a bomb or something by how crazy they get when I walk with my bag towards the gym area, some of us have knee sleeves, belts, wrist wraps, phones, etc. and I'd rather keep it with me in my bag near while I workout. We are service members not vigilantes, I'm not gonna steal your 5$ dollar weights and if I do just take your video and show my chain of command and mast me. End of the day I just wanna workout peacefully and de stress and be able to play basketball. As a service member this doesn't help my mental or anyone's mental. MWR DO BETTER.

They have a huge field for outdoor sports or running as well as an outdoor basketball court. The cardio room is pretty good, there is always a machine available. Their complimentary Wi-Fi doesn't work in that space, but most machines have a tv in front of them to keep you occupied. The free weights & cybex style machines are in different rooms. Free weight space is usually pretty crowded, odd layout doesn't help matters, I'll add a pic next visit. There's also a core training & low weight stretching room & a couple of racquet ball courts. The indoor basketball court is decent, but every few years it seems to suffer water damage that shuts it down for extended periods of time. They also have some kids hoops that drive me crazy when I can't use the facilities because they're catering to kids. In my eyes this is a military base fitness center & they should cater to the service members, not dependents or kids. They also have weird policies that somehow allows a ton of non military folks to run games on Saturday mornings, which wouldn't be an issue if they were respectful of their surroundings. I don't want to deal with petty arguments from guys dropping "N" bombs & swearing every other word. It's all talk, I've never seen a fight or even a punch thrown that wasn't at a heavy bag. Oh yeah, they have a lightweight "heavy" bag, speed bag & some TRX stuff along the court as well.
