Unusually, ranged outside the shop on a series of trestle tables are a range of diverse items (from loo-roll to bags of peanuts) all at knock-down prices. The displays change daily and there are usually various people milling about seeing what the bargains of the day are - giving it the feel of a car-boot sale. The shop itself is more of a traditional grocers shop, with tinned and fresh food, fruit and veg etc but it's tiny inside and it's amazing how much stock they manage to pack in. Prices are excellent value and Nobby's is a bit of a local institution - long may it thrive!

All food and drinks are freshly made and behind the main dining area there is a small outdoor courtyard which has tables with parasols and tends to be a lovely space to dine on a sunny day. The menu covers a wide range of reasonably priced meals, from all day breakfasts and burgers, to a full dinner, snacks, jacket potatoes and sandwiches. Occasionally, I've wished my food would arrive a bit quicker, but this has to be balanced against the fact that everything is freshly cooked. There's a blue plaque screwed to the cliff wall telling you that this was the site of the return of King Edward IV to England in 1471. That's one for pub quizzes fact fans

The cakes are home-made and very generously proportioned for a very reasonable £8-9. There is also a selection of elegantly boxed chocolate fudge cake, Turkish Delight etc., perfect to give as a gift. There is also some bold and bright nautically themed ceramics for sale too. The tea rooms themselves are fairly spacious, with an additional walled garden of outdoor seating, that I'm sure proves a honeypot during the summer season. The menu is fairly expansive with items such as sandwiches, slices of cake etc. We only had a coffee, but the huge slices of chocolate cake looked very tempting!. All the drinks at the Owl are Fair Trade, and served in substantial half glazed/unglazed cups and saucers.
