What a great stop as you are walking around Bremerhaven. If you have an interest in military…read morehistory, this museum is a great stop. It's affordable, informational, and historical all at the same time. For 3 euros, you will be hard pressed to find as interesting of a stop in Bremerhaven. When I visited, it was a cool, rainy day and so I was the only person on the submarine. The people working there were friendly and clearly wanted me to enjoy the visit. While my German is not as good as it used to be, and their English was almost zero, they tried to point out as much as possible and I greatly appreciated it. Make sure you stop at the U-Boot Wilhelm Bauer, former U2540, on your Bremerhaven visit! You can get here by foot, bus or taxi.

It is a submarine and if you haven´t seen one you might like it. However, when we went the opening…read morehours were advertised as open until 18.00h but we were asked to leave at 17.40h. That was really rude and not fair, since they already took our money. Seemed like the staff didn´t want to work any more, wasn´t very friendly or motivated either. From the train station, it is a short walk to the museum, alternatively, a trip on the local buses would bring you nearby. The museum itself is of moderate size, several floors with varied exhibits, from old aged merchant shipping vessels to more modern sea faring vessels of warfare. Any review of this place would not be complete without mention of the U-boat parked outside the museum. Take a note though, admission to the U-boat is not included in the standard museum ticket (there was an alternative ticket which included it, or you can pay on getting on the U-boat). I was totally disappointed by this place. We were expecting so much more and I find paying Euro…read more13,50 for the entry fee is robbery. Outside of enjoying the architecture, I found the rest boring. There is nothing spectacular about this exhibit whatsoever. Even more disappointing, a lot of things were broken. This in my opinion is unacceptable for the price they are charging to get in. Nevertheless, this could be fun for very young kids at best. Come with the family and teach your kids about the absolute basics and you can get something out of visiting here. Otherwise, skip it. Not worth your while.

There is a hand sanitizer at the entrance and they ask you to fill out a sheet with your contact information. There are two levels to the museum and plenty to see, although it's not always immediately apparent which way to go to see everything. I doubled back a few times to make sure I didn't miss anything. The total time I spent in the museum was a little over an hour. You start with a history of how Bremerhaven came to be. Note that everything is written in German. I liked the upstairs exhibits better. You go on a journey through time (including WWII) through after the war. The ground floor also has a space allocated to temporary exhibits. There is a cafe on the upper floor with vending machines and a seating area. The only toilet is on the ground floor (the upstairs one is closed).
