In the past we brought our dog to Muddy Buddy on Independance and Haygood and loved them. They closed. We didn't find a place that compared so made the half hour drive to near Oceana. We got many reminders of our appointment time and were 5 minutes early. They had no previous record of our dog. The groomer was waiting for us. All good. Told 1 1/4 hours. At 1 1/4 later Told they needed 45 more. I asked to use the rest room. I walked past her and she was wet, in a cage and two dogs, that I hadn't seen before, one was on its way out and one was on the grooming table. I should have taken my dog then hindsight! She still had Greek yogurt (don't judge) dried on her face. One eye was well groomed not the other. I can hear her toenails on the floor. I got a discount as an apology for the time. I used this dog salon when they were on Independence. I live in Chesapeake and drove there after a couple harrowing experiences with groomers. One cut my dogs ear so badly my vet had to clean it up. When I called her she said she thought she nicked her. The tip of her ear was gone but she is a sheepadoodle and her hair is black and long around the ears. Independence location! UPDATE: I spoke with the owner who felt very bad. She will issue a partial refund to me. There was a lot going on that day,she did not get my email, and they are very sorry. I am very happy that the owner spoke with me. I will use them again for a second try! They were terrible! They were not open when I got there! They had a hard time with my dogs. They were anxious. I noted this when making the appointment! I was charged full price and did not get all services! I sent an email asking for a partial refund. No response! made an appointment 4 weeks ago for a basic wash and cut and my appointment was initially changed to the next week. The week they were supposed to come they called and said they cant make it and had to change it to another week or two away. Very poor service and wouldn't recommend them as to they canceled 10 minutes prior to my original appointments. When i said this will be the 3rd time to reschedule they said not much I can do but reschedule your service. I took off the morning of both times and lost 6 hours total of work that cost me 4x the amount of the grooming service that was never provided. When I called back I asked for the next grooming service of the day and they said they couldnt push the other dog as to they had a later appointment reserved 1st. I said if I can be rescheduled 3 times so can the 2nd owner. Needless to say they never came to the job and never called me back. Every self wash Ive been to is about $10-$15. Each one always has all the items shampoo, conditioner, towels, industrial dog blower to dry. I saw all the red stars and reviews and went...seriously???? $25!! For what? 1. I brought my own shampoo duh, 2. There was no proper conditioner...it was a 'spritz bottle' for after the dog is dry? I wanted to coat her fur and rinse..3. They just sat there and I had to keep asking for things like 'wheres the dryer? The guy rolls a small cart around with a cheap small dryer plugged into a wall somewhere....fine whatever, them after 45 minutes of drying I had enough and left with a damp dog!!! The whole point of going was to wash thoroughly getting rid of any dirt and possible yeast and I leave with a damp smelling dog!! Yeast is itchy and grows in damp/sweaty areas so great thanks for probably giving her yeast! Three hours later she is still damp. Why? 1. Its a cheap dryer you can get from amazon 2. Everything is provided to make sure your fur baby is completely clean and relaxed. There's aprons to stay dry, a variety of soaps, WARM water, toothbrushes, amazing sprays/perfumes to keep them smelling fresh, and even nail clippers. They even helped us use the nail trimmer tool and was very patient when our dog was spooked from the tool. They are so compassionate and so understanding. From the first time we found Muddy Buddy, my wife and I have enjoyed spending the time to groom our dog Lana who is a havanese/Maltese mix and requires weekly maintenance Prior to being regulars, we would take Lana to various groomers and never found a location which met our expectations. It just never made sense to leave Lana at the groomers for several hours when all we were looking for was a weekly wash. Next option was to look for a self grooming location around the area and found Muddy Buddy. As stated previously, we now take Lana once a week. And Lana loves coming here! Today was our first time doing a self-service wash and Wendy was amazing! She walked us through it and we learned more than we thought we would, all while having a good laugh! You can tell she really loves what she does. Yes we could've probably washed him at home for free but this was SOOOO much easier. We have a 65lb boxer and trying to bend over to give him a good wash in the tub really does a number on our backs and we aren't but 25 years old! Lol also it's so hard to get his belly cleaned which was a breeze here. THEN we don't have to clean up the after math and wash towels and deal with a wet dog running wild through the house. And Yes we could probably take him somewhere and have them do it but we don't trust many these days with our babies. We will for sure be visiting again! read more
