In an attempt to hire a lawyer for a landlord tenant dispute, I contacted Mudd Mudd and Fitzgerald P.A., Lawyer Isaac McAdams. Upon arrival at the Laplata MD office for the $175.00 consultation fee, the office administrator gave me several pieces of paper to fill out. Paper work requesting my work, finances and personal information. The paper work was given to me and had to be completed prior to my meeting with Mr. McAdams. In addition to the personal information forms, I was given paperwork requesting acknowledgement/permission for the firm to act on behalf of the opposing party. This is a strict conflict of interest. I brought the form to the attention of the admin who responded as if she had no idea what the form was stating. The admin in-turn brought my question about the form to the attention of Mr. McAdams (lawyer) who also responded as if he did not know the intent of the form. I did not sign it, but continued on with the $175.00 consultation. As the landlord Mr. McAdams stated the options were to fight the matter in court for a $700.00 - 900.00 dollars fee, file late payments in court myself or wait out the lease and hope the tenants don't tear down the place. I said I would weigh my options and get back to him. I decided to fight the matter in court. I contacted McAdam and arranged to meet in his office where I was quoted a new fee for $1,400.00. I was also told that my sending the tenant late rental payment notices, and the breach of contact notices for lack of up-keeps could be considered harassment and that they could file charges against me. This scare tactic lead me to believe that Mudd Mudd and Fitzgerald firm was trying to discourage me from pursuing the case with their firm or in court because I did not sign the form overlooking the conflict of interest intent . When leaving the firm on my first visit I went directly to the court house and filed paper work for "late rental payment notice". On that exact day the tenants paid their rent. In the seven months that they have lived in the apartment they have never paid at the beginning of the month. This leads me to believe that the tenants were indeed working with this firm creating a conflict of interest. I did not use this Mudd Mudd and Fitzgerald, and feel that such a form creates a conflict of interest to its clients. read more

John Mudd was the worst attorney. He said he would take my custody case, as a father, he told me he was old fashioned and he believed the mother should raise the child, but yet he still took my case knowing I, the father, wanted custody. I was in his office asking him questions, and he became irate with me and stood up and started yelling at me from the top of his voice, his face turned red. It was at that point, I decided to fire him and get someone else, that didn't just take a case for the money. read more
