If you are leaving this less than three stars I'd have to wonder why other than the fact that maybe you want shade in the summer or it to be less breezy in the colder months... but then I'd have to wonder what or why you'd expect something so absurd. I walked the entire ground the other day and found a little glass closer to the water side of the park... that's pretty typical of beaches in general and due mostly to careless people; If it bothers you and your pup, might I suggest doing your part and picking a couple pieces up? My rescue dog 2years old is a swimmer! We had the greatest day until leaving! I hate to have our experience ruined due to the ignorance of people THAT SHOULD NEVER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LIVING THING. I am pleading with dog owner to use common sense & NOT bring your dog that you are NOT 100% SURE is friendly with others. My dog Ellie was viciously attacked today while the 2 young owners stood watch doing NOTHING to take control of help me in stopping it from trying to kill my dog. It was only a miracle & grace of God I was able to get the dog off her. Expecting remorse from owner & received NOTHING OF THE SORT. Ignorance & self-righteous entitlement as if we were wrong. Ellie, my daughter & I are ok but could have ended in any of us hospitalized or worse. Mud Creek is the perfect place for those of us dog parents who wish we could bring our dogs on the beach. Most places on LI do not allow dogs whatsoever so Mud Creek is a welcome addition. Park on the street and go inside the double gates. You'll be on sand with some chairs and water people have left out for the dogs. Walk further down and you'll see the Great South Bay where your dogs can go splash around in the water! We brought a blanket and let the dogs catch some sun and get their feet wet. It was only in the 70s the day we went so not too many dogs were in the water but there were plenty on the sand with their humans. A lot of the dogs will play together and chase balls into the water or on the sand. Yes, there are a few shards of glass around but only on the walk to the shoreline from the entrance so it's not terrible. The water itself isn't the most beautiful so I would let the dogs in but as a human I would stay out. Everyone here is incredibly friendly and all the dogs were well-behaved, except for one. SHHHH Don't tell anyone about it....but here I am leaving a review. Look, does it have glass? Yes...but I've found that on a lot of beaches because people can be pigs. Just be careful, I didn't have any issues and nor did my dog. People here were friendly, it felt very laid back, and the pups were running around having a good time. Don't plan to come here and lay on the sand on a towel....because...well...dogs. But do come here expecting to catch some rays, unwind a bit, laugh plenty at all the cuties coming in, and have a tired pup at the end! This place is a gem in my opinion. read more

We love coming here ! By we.. I mean my puppers and I. Such a cute little beach park for them. My Weimaraner actually learned how to swim at this beach. There was a group of dogs with their owners that all kept chasing this one tennis ball into the water. Hudson ( my weimy) took off like a bullet into the shore and the let his instincts kick in. Bam. He was swimming like a pro. Such a treasured moment for me as his dog mom. That's why I love this park so much. The reason I'm giving it a four is because there are random shards of beer bottle glass splattered around so please be careful with your precious pups. It's not an overwhelming amount but it's there. Also, many of the owners irresponsibly leave behind pet waste which is not so much on the park but for those nasty pet owners. I recommend not wearing anything fancy as you will get dirty wet paw marks. Also bring a lawn chair. Wouldn't really recommend laying a blanket or sheet down because the dogs go wherever they please but a nice lawn chair will do the trick. Oh yea and some tennis balls ! Love the open space and the water features of this park. There is a wide open grass area, then the beach area that has some waves and then off to the other side a quieter bay/marina area. My dog loved being off leash and exploring. Lost a start because of the trash around the space. There were broken glass bits all over the sand and grass areas. Someone was around trying to pick them up but am afraid if you don't pay close attention your dog could get seriously hurt. Fun times with the pup here! read more

I'm writing this review from another dog park that's closer to home, but this one was pretty great. It's massive and there's a beach! And there's a lot of cons too. There is no fence, which is most likely because it is so massive. There's nowhere for people to sit, which makes sense because it's a beach. But I've never seen a dog park without a spout for water- not even a pump. The dogs are going to need water after running around like fools, so bring your water bottles. There's also a decrepit dock on the shore, that the dogs have free access to. It's falling apart and a serious hazard not only for the dogs but for people too. One of the regulars told me to keep my little girl away from it for right now, and that the regulars are calling the town to fix it. But for right now, it's not only an eyesore but a real issue. Would I bring my pup again? Yes, if we're in the area and it's a good beach day. But would I seek this place out as somewhere to go specifically because I need a park? Nope. read more

This park used to be a sand piper reserve, strictly for birds. A few years ago, Brookhaven changed it to a dog park due to an increasing demand from the locals. Since then, many a hound have trafficked here and explored and so on. It's a good place to let your dog explore and meet the seldom other dogs there, but it is also hazardous to your dog. Due to the increased popularity of Mud Creek park being open, more people have been going here as well. (&As they always have been) this has caused a dramatic increase in litter and trash piling up on the sand and in the trees. Please, watch out for your kids and dogs! There is broken glass everywhere! Also, please collect any garbage that you see and dispose of it properly! It is very important to keep the park safe for us, as well as the wildlife whom have originally lived there! Aside from that, it is a good neutral ground for dogs to meet and sniff, and for people to go collect shells! :) please be careful, and protect our enviroment here in Patchogue. read more

Very unique place to bring your dog .....depending on the season. Things it has going for it: - Only off leash area on Long Island I know of that has its own ocean beach - Parking on street Things it has against it: - Have to watch what washes up the beach (lots of glass at times) - Have to watch out for remnants of an old dock that use to be there - Have to watch out for boats if you go on the inlet side beach as oppose to the ocean side beach - No drinking water for dogs - No seating for humans - No bathrooms for humans - No fencing - No shade - No poop bags provided - Have to check for deer ticks Area is rather large compared to other parks (guessing 3 acres or more). This area is shared with nesting birds. Area is open to off leash dogs from Sept 1st to March 2nd. Area is closed March 2nd to June 30th for these nesting birds. Area may be open July 1st to Aug 31st if county park staff see no nesting birds. Only area that I know of that designated for off leash dog use that has an ocean beach. Even though it doesn't have any amenities as other dog runs/parks do, it gave it 4 stars since it has the one thing other runs/parks don't have.....a beach. South Country Community is very happy with all the work we've been able to accomplish alongside our new Suffolk County Parks Commissioner Philip Berdolt and Legislator Robert Calarco. The park has been cleaned from all the large debris left by Hurricane Sandy aswell as put on the regular schedule for maintenance. Residents from all throughout Suffolk County love this beautiful dog park with beach access. Ongoing collections of water bowls to keep at park for dog families to use are always welcomed. We bring water and having these water bowls for the dogs are a blessing and people appreciate having them there. Tennis balls and baseballs are always needed so if you want to donate you are always welcomed to. 'Closed.' So we went on the beach instead and had a blast! No amenities. Carry-in,carry-out. Big pieces of glass. They weren't sharp so I carried out what I found and recycled them.
