It has been years since I ran a 401k, but my wife had been wanting to run one with obstacles for quite some time so when an offer came up on Groupon to get our registrations at a reasonable price I figured why not. So the idea is that all proceeds go to charity to help protect the Sacramento River. That wasn't a real deciding factor for me really I just wanted to watch the wife run through the mud pits for amusement.
I wish there would have been more information available as to what I was going to expect with this run. There was very little you could find online and the people who set this event up waited until the last moment to tell you anything. Really finding the place was even a mystery since they never gave a physical address. I think my biggest complaint is that this was promoted as a local Sacramento event and to pick up your race packet you had to go all the way to Chico a few hours up the road the day before the race. The other option was to arrive at the race early and get in line, but you had to be done there for a pre race mandatory meeting. It should be noted that meeting NEVER happened so I was hours early for nothing.
Aside from that the run is alright. You'll run along the river in the sand and through some fields that have makeshift obstacles and mud pits in them. Once you are done you can jump in the river to get the mud off of you and then head over for some post race food (which is included in the registration.) All in all it was an interesting event out in the middle of nowhere, but make no mistake this is no Tough Mudder type event. In fact there were small children running in it.
It was worth the $20 but I wouldn't do it again. read more
