Even if I don't come here for a while the staff always remember me, make me feel welcome, find me a table, as a lone diner this is important. The staff will recommend three dishes per person, but I always find myself ordering four as I love so many of them and can never choose!! I would highly recommend the Chorizo, Grilled Salmon and Duck, but of course with this you need a vegetable dish, which there are many fantastic ones to choose from. There are a couple of choices of house wine by the glass and I particularly like the red house Acantus Tinto a Tempranillo Cab Sav, which is really good value either by the glass or bottle. If you're in group, as a couple or on your own and you enjoy a good Tapas which is freshly cooked I would recommend this place for a try.

Interestingly they haven't bothered to theme the music accordingly, which is common in American diners that are going for that retro vibe. Other pluses; bottomless coffee, alcohol and cocktails available, a massive menu that ranges from normal (cheeseburger) to ridiculous (peanut butter cheeseburger), and huge portions. The burgers all come with steak fries and a side, which can be coleslaw, salad, or corn on the cob. We had the onion rings as an appetizer, which were just okay. The desserts look a bit pricey but again the portions are huge so you can easily share. I got the waffle burger, which was one of the gimmicky daily specials so it may be that the normal selections are better, but it was a bit tasteless. The bacon (British, not American, but still tasty) was fine but probably needed to be crisped a little to add texture, and the waffles soaked up the syrup so the overall effect ended up a bit dry and the burger patty itself was a little bland. Prices are a bit high (most of the burgers come in around £9.50) but the portions are certainly generous, so if the food quality was a little higher I think I'd add a star. Service was mixed, starting with a strangely negative interaction with one server but followed by our server being very sweet and friendly. However he was also clearly overworked and rushing around like mad.

One of them, Royal & Derngate, is just a five minute walk from Chata, so this was a regular stop for us for a meal out before or after one of her shows, or if we popped down to see one of the many great acts passing through town. I can't imagine a better restaurant in Northampton. First, the service. We were always waited on by the owner, who was always up for a great chat. An immensely friendly, welcoming, and attentive man. Second, the food! The pork shank is unreal, absolutely spectacular, and my wife always enjoyed the pierogies. The sausage appetizer with mustard is also excellent. For drinks, they offer three or four different Polish beers, of which the owner will share his candid opinions and recommend one to suit your tastes. There's also wine, and Guinness, if I recall correctly, but stick with the beer. I highly recommend the Zwiec for a super drinkable lager with better flavor depth than the others. Having been to many restaurants and pubs in Northampton, this is by far my favorite for its incredible service and food. This place is, simply put, homely, and you can't do any better than home.

We wanted to sample a little of everything, so the platters were the way to go. The food was incredible. Beef rolls that melted in your mouth, pork shanks that were worth the wait (about 20 or 25 minutes), onion pierogies, polish sausage, pork loin- every bite was just amazing. I couldn't believe that my family ate every bite- it was an enormous amount of food. Authentic, prepared with love and care. We also had a 10 month old baby with us, and she agreed that the food was delicious, as she couldn't get enough of sampling the menu either. They have an awesome high chair too that looked like it could be found in a ski lodge in the Swiss alps- rustic, sturdy, and very comfortable. The service was so friendly and helpful with offering suggestions, and even other guests in the small restaurant were friendly and willing to start up a conversation.

However, I gave the place another chance and enjoyed my meal. I shared the Meat Tray for two, which comes with plenty of food. The wings are whole drums and flappers. The meat just falls off the ribs -- they were the best part. The mac and cheese was good. The brisket was ok, wasn't too fussed by it. The hot dog was nice, like the buns they use. Don't like the batter they use on the chicken though, too greasy. The fries were over salted. However, it was still a nice meal, and priced really well too. They have a selection of bottled and draft craft beer, including Sierra Nevada and Brooklyn Lager on draft. A nice little selection of bourbon too. No starters however, but you don't really need one, and a really small dessert menu. The need to get a drinks menu though!!!
