Our home is now modern and beautiful, we are so glad we hired Christensen Construction over a couple other contractors we met with. INTRO: Christensen Construction was referred to us by one of my husband's acquaintances. We had purchased a home in August and wanted to redo the entire kitchen, and make cosmetic updates to all the floors, master bathroom as well as a second bathroom, and the laundry room. Sounded simple at first but what ensued was practically remodeling every room of our home. While we were eager to move into the home as soon as possible, we had to wait for Dave to wrap up another project before starting our project in November. Though that put a damper in our plans, we went with our gut and waited for him instead of choosing another contractor which was the right choice! He was communicative and easy to reach throughout the process via phone, text and email. EMPATHY: Dave was very careful in adhering to our requests, such as my wish to repaint old cabinets instead of replacing them all. Yet he knew when to push us to get some new cabinets when it came down to the matter of quality of the results - some of our kitchen cabinets were beyond repair and had too much dead space - we would gain so much more by replacing them. He gave sound advice and was always flexible with any changes or updates we added to our project. Dave was always a phone call or text away so we could always discuss concerns, updates and questions. He even took calls with us on weekends! The holidays in November and December pushed back our completion date, so Dave worked extra hard to make up those dates to get us into our home sooner. PRICE: My husband and I really appreciated that Dave invoiced us weekly and the invoice would include daily tasks completed so both parties could track the project management. I think this is pretty rare in the contracting industry but it highlighted that we were paying a competitive rate for all the labor performed on our project. The invoice also broke down what materials Dave bought on our behalf with his contractors discount at stores. Later on, the invoices would show a credit back to us after he returned any extra/unused materials. When it came to cutting and installing our slab countertops, Dave subcontracted the project out to a specialist but they did great work together! Having Dave make the introduction to the fabricator saved us time and work, and the subcontractor's price was very affordable for all the countertops we replaced. QUALITY RESULTS: Electrician, plumber, painter, handyman, Dave is a jack of all trades! All the work is clean and you can see a lot of attention to detail has been poured into the project. Walls that were patched were retextured so the patch would match the rest of the wall, faulty or ugly items are replaced or repaired, lines are straight and clean, gaps are caulked. Every step was taken to go the extra mile. While his team is just two men, Dave has plenty of good quality tools to get the work done and in the correct manner. Our house is now Pinterest, HGTV or Architectural Digest worthy but we will let the photos speak for themselves! Below are some of the high level items Dave delivered on our project: 1. Rewired the messy electrical mistakes created by previous owners 2. Added CAT6 hardwired internet cables for the his and hers offices, and TV (a must for those who work from home nowadays in COVID times!) 3. Installed new cabinets 4. Installed new floating laminate floors and kickboards throughout the house and stairs 5. Some plumbing work such as replacing faucets, and more importantly, adding a pot filler in our kitchen 6. Replaced all our our recessed lights and ceiling fans (even on our tall vaulted ceilings!) 7. Took apart, sanded, primed, painted and reinstalled some older cabinets and doors to make them look brand new 8. Retrofitted all 24 of our old leaky windows with new custom windows 9. Added smart switches throughout the house and installed Nest thermostats

Given these two big projects that Dave has done for us, here are a few things we wanted to share about him and his work: Talented and well rounded: Dave is a general contractor, and he can basically do all kinds of jobs, including electric, plumbing, carpentry, drywall and so on. The quality of work can't be beat. Reasonably priced: Dave's quotes are very reasonable and affordable. His invoices are well organized, listing out all the material he purchased as well as detailing the work processes of each day. Great communication: Before the projects started, Dave used his personal time to meet with us and went through all our expectations. He gave us a lot of great recommendations, including relocating our toilet in one hall bath and installing recessed lighting in our living room. He really thinks ahead for his customers. Right before the project start date, we changed our remodeling plan for our master bathroom at the last minute. We appreciated Dave being so flexible and riding this out with us. The master bathroom was finished completely and met our expectations. Whenever we had questions about the project, Dave was always patient and willing to explain. He is very easy and pleasant to work with. I would recommend Dave and his team for anyone looking for a contractor that not only actually finishes the job but takes pride in their work. After receiving an estimate from Brian for an interior staircase (ONLY 3 steps, for $3000+), I immediately accepted the proposal and without hesitation mailed the deposit for $1908! After they received the deposit, no official date for install had been set. During which time a Richland County Inspector came by and said to me that a permit would be required. I went back to Green Exterior and told them this. At which time, Chris was introduced. He offered to be a "GC" so I wouldn't worry about permits/ drawings or any other contractors for $600.. materials were dropped and of course with other projects I don't know which company dropped them. They sat in the rain and sun for two weeks. Finally a date was set. Unfortunately , one of their guys had a family emergency and was not able to come out. Another week went by. Finally, I said that I wanted to cancel/ refund at this point and would take the $750 loss since they dropped materials.... Instead of losing the money and deposit, my husband convinced me to keep trying to work with them on another project instead. They gave me an overpriced estimate for an exterior ramp $12000+, that other companies quoted half that amount. At this point, I'm not trusting the intentions of Green Exteriors and declined the $12000+ proposal, again requesting a refund. After a month, I reached out about when to expect the remaining deposit minus the wood... Now Chris has stated they WILL NOT refund because they invested too much time.... Well so have I! Beware of this company and get at least 3 estimates before approving anything from them!!!!

A previous business Jim operated under was TruBilt, LLC. Please research heavily and don't take our word for it. We hired Jim in Oct 2021 to do a full kitchen remodel estimated at $45k and paid a $15k deposit. It was Jan 2022 before the demo started. That was when we no longer had a functional kitchen with running water etc. There were always excuses why workers did not show up. Workers were not licensed professionals just people doing handyman work they were not qualified to do. We were still without a functional kitchen in July 2022 when we finally terminated the contract after a multitude of attempts to resolve the problems. Mr. Tokunaga would periodically have workers begin a task to get back into our good graces, only to have him fall flat again and again. To complete the kitchen remodel, we had to pay other contractors even though money had been paid to Mr. Tokunaga to complete those tasks. The cabinet subcontractor refused to complete that job because he was not being paid although we had already issued payment to Mr. Tokunago for the full cabinet completion. The licensed electrician we hired after terminating Mr. Tokunago stated the wiring was so bad it could have caught fire at any moment. When we terminated this contractor in July, we still had no running water, no sink, no appliances, no counter tops, no backsplash, and holes in the ceiling where his subs cut into the sheetrock in the wrong areas. Not to mention other faulty workmanship issues that were corrected by me. There is so much more to be said, but please do your due diligence and look up the lawsuit of Schmidt vs Advanced Building & Construction LLC in Kershaw County SC. We have a 2 inch binder filled with all our evidence and willing to share. After termination, we had to pay licensed professional to complete the kitchen and repair all the items that were done incorrectly and even hazardous. Money we had already paid Jim to do. When we hired our own licensed electrician, he stated our kitchen wiring was so bad it could have caught fire at any moment. At time of contract termination, we still had no running water or appliances or completed cabinets or countertops. So much more to tell but please look up lawsuit for just some of the details. After 4 different contractors we eventually chose a different one based on what we felt was the best fit. Jim gave reasonable prices and even caught a potential issue two of the other contractors missed. He followed up when we told him we were expecting to make a decision and didn't get mad when I informed him we had not chosen his company.
