I normally don't write reviews but everyone needs to know about Pearson Studios. I have been a…read morebroadway actor for 8 years, most recently in Beetlejuice the Musical, and I FINALLY found a brilliant vocal coach, music director, arranger and accompanist. But Scott offers so much more! Due to the pandemic everything has gone virtual and because of Pearson Studios I was able to pivot during the pandemic. Scott also has a state of the art recording studio and is a fabulous sound engineer and videographer. I now have a commercial voice-over demo (which landed me a commercial agent and a few v/o gigs), and also very professional self-tapes for my theatre and tv/film auditions. Not only does he offer his accompaniment and coaching skills, but he uses a professional microphone and protools, and a very fancy camera and back drop which totally ups my game! He also offers excellent acting coaching as well as acts as my reader. He is a one stop shop! Once I went to Pearson studios all my stress was taken away. I started receiving callbacks and just booked a brand new Off-Broadway show from only my self-tape submission. I can't speak highly enough about Scott. Honestly, I was in a weird slump - I wanted something that I can do on my own - that I was passionate about and this did it for me. I'm definitely continuing to the intermediate level! It took a couple of sessions to click because lessons are not like what I was used to from other teachers who follow more regimented training styles but let me tell you her technique has brought out more colors to my voice than standard voice coaching that focuses only on technicality. While Kayla does incorporate classic voice coaching skills her emphasis on connecting the voice to your emotions has done wonders for my confidence and stage presence especially when I sing. When preparing for auditions my anxiety is magnitudes more quiet. Every week, Kayla meets me where I am and works with the part of me that needs to express itself. I am a trained classical pianist and actor, so I have had many teachers over the years. What's remarkable about Kayla is the way she is able to create an environment of total safety (unlike most other teachers I've had), while still pushing me. She is highly perceptive and she won't hesitate to point out habits that are blocking free, authentic expression. But it's all done with love and encouragement. The other thing I love about working with Kayla is that it's a holistic process. She has deep knowledge of vocal technique, but all of it is filtered through an even more essential perspective that the voice is the way we make ourselves known to others (and to ourselves too). Filtering all of the technique through that lens, and tuning into the primal human experience of trying to communicate, has been deeply rewarding and cathartic and also fun!
