MJVS promotes vocal health for all styles of singing through a hybrid technical approach involving, breathing, stretches, body alignment/awareness, nutrition, yoga, Alexander Technique, Linklater, and mental health tailored personally to each singer. We strive to provide the best training possible to help each student on his or her vocal journey.
Michael works with students from seasoned Broadway professionals and recording artists, to beginners who want to improve singing for pleasure. He has experience with dancers, singers, and actors- both men and women- of various ages and voice types. He has even helped postoperative students recover from vocal surgery and has instructed students recovering from vocal damage. He also specializes in working with students suffering from performance and audition anxiety. He is a seasoned New York musical theater technical teacher and performer with experience performing many different styles of music. He was the program director of NYCinMA, a 6 week professional musical theater intensive program and a member of NATS, NYSTA and APA.
History
Established in 2005.
MJVS was established in 2005 with a studio in Astoria, NY. In 2006, MJVS continued expanding with a studio in midtown Manhattan. The studio created NYCinMA, a musical theater summer intensive program, in 2012 in the Boston Metro area. Since 2012, MJVS has also been providing remote lessons via Skype and FaceTime. We provide private voice lessons, vocal coaching, workshops and career coaching. Michael is a top NYC technical voice teacher.
Meet the Business Owner: Michael J.
Michael is an experienced teacher and also spent many years as a professional performer. As a teacher, he has experience working with students from seasoned musical theater and recording professionals, to beginners who want to improve singing for pleasure. He is a seasoned New York performer with experience performing many different styles of music.
Michael's journey to becoming a vocal technique teacher began at an early age. Always struggling, and working through his own vocal issues has helped him to be a better teacher. He has worked with the top New York vocal teachers and coaches and holds a BFA from Ithaca College, as well as an MA in clinical psychology. Michael specializes in working with students who suffer from performance and audition anxiety.
