The elevated Burke Avenue Subway Station in the Bronx's Allerton and Williamsbridge neighborhoods, opened in 1917, is now serviced by the White Plains Road Line 2 and during rush hour peak direction 5 trains. Unfortunately it's neither ADA compliant, nor scheduled in the near future with accessibility upgrades.
In 2004, the MTA did install stained glass windows designed by artist Béatrice Coron named "Bronx Literature," drawn from 4 Bronx-connected authors: Edgar Allan Poe's "Ulalume and other poems," Sholom Aleichem's "Mottel, the Cantor's Son," James Baldwin's "The Fire Next Time," and Nicholasa Mohr's "El Bronx Remembered."
