Great hike with lots of stairs. Easy-Moderate difficulty and appropriate for all ages. There are some excellent views at the top.

We've been to Mt. Pisgah a couple of times. We'll usually hit this up after seeing the Holland Tulip Festival. The climb to the top of the stairs isn't too bad for the average person. There are several areas where you can stop along the stairway and catch your breath and even sit on the benches. What makes me feel out of shape is seeing the younger athletic ladies and gents running up and down these 200 some steps with ease and doing it multiple times! Once you get to the top, you'll realize the view is worth the thigh and calf workout it took to get there. If you're going, have fun. The good part is you're not walking through gravel trails or wooded areas to get to the top to enjoy the serene and pretty view.

I saw signs for Mt. Pisgah after having a picnic at the Holland State Park beach, so I checked on the Alltrails app and it sounded like a quick easy hike. There is a small designated parking lot nearby just past the Ottawa Beach General store. After parking, walk back towards Dune Dogz and the entrance is under a white gazebo structure. The hike is short but it's all stairs with a pretty decent incline. I didn't realize you're actually hiking up a sand dune until I read some of the signage. I thought that was pretty cool. The views are really nice - you can see Lake Michigan and the red lighthouse on one side, and on the opposite side is Lake Macatawa with lots of big beautiful cottages. There are several resting places with benches on the way up, so you can take a breather before you get to the top. It was a great way to get some exercise while enjoying this really pretty area. There's lots of informational signs that explain how Lake Macatawa was formed as well as some information about wildlife you might see in the area. Note that no dogs are allowed since the boardwalk and stairs are pretty narrow in some spots. There is a loop of hiking trails in the forest towards the top of the dune that go back into the campground area. We didn't have time to check those out, but I made a note of it for next time and to also look up the Lake Macatawa section of the campground as that looked really nice. It wasn't too busy when we were there in October but I would guess this spot gets popular in the spring and summer.

A little over 200 stairs to the top!

I heard a lot about Mt. Pisgah before visiting Holland. Right before you get to the beach, this little trail is tucked into the trees, and offers a beautiful view of the lighthouse and Lake Michigan. It goes over 200 steps to get to the top, and for someone who is averagely in shape, it's a little tough! You'll find some people running up and down the entire thing multiple times, and wonder how they do it... While it's not really anything super extravagant, it's a cool way to explore the area. There are also little podiums with history written on them that you can read about, too!

Awesome quick stop to enjoy some views and get your workout in! The hike up includes a staircase with over 200 steps, and you get to enjoy a bit of forestry vibes with some nerdy info about Mt. Pisgah (my favorite)! Parking is a short ways from the white gazebo that will lead you to the trail it's only 2 hour parking though. Don't fret, you'll have plenty of time to go up the dune and enjoy the views If you're in Holland, it's definitely worth the walk to enjoy the view of Lake Macatawa!

Mt. Pisgah is a hiking trail nestled along Ottawa Beach Rd as you make your way to the beach. The trail is a 0.4 mile dune climb with a boardwalk and stairs. When you reach the top, the views are absolutely breathtaking as you look out to see Lake Michigan, Lake Macatawa, Big Red Lighthouse, and the beach! Get out there and get your hike on, GR!

This was not what I'd call a mountain by any means, but it was a great place to see the views! Several hundred stairs with decking in between get you up to the summit for a gorgeous lookout. Additional trails were well marked and fun to hike. We came in mid-October. The trees really protect from high winds so you can enjoy outdoor time without freezing like you may on the shoreline nearby.

Great hike; lots of stairs but worth the effort. The views are awesome. Park down the street and it's a short walk to the trail.

We walked up and saw you could catch a big ol school bus to shuttle you up to the entrance for free, we hoped on and went in. I was very excited to see de Zwaan the famous Windmill imported from the Netherlands! The only one in the US, I think! It was SO beautiful! I got some great shots of the tulips and the windmill that I thought were just so pretty! Loved going up in the windmill and walking thru the tulip fields. Also don't miss walking thru the shops with authentic goods for sale including a whole cheese wall! With samples! You know some Dutch Gouda had to come home with me!

The windmill is identical to what is in the Netherlands. The only difference between this windmill and the ones in the Netherlands is that each level of this windmill has different types of jobs that were done that relied on windmill power such as clog carving and flour milling. I feel like the people in costume don't really want to chat or start a discussion around the park except for one woman at the very top of the windmill who was giving out stickers and one doing the pipe organ demonstration - everyone else in costume were either chatting with each other or kind of zoned out. Outside of the windmill, there's not much to do - we watched the short informative film and the pipe organ demonstration, but that's it for activities. We were told that the park had horses in the pasture but we walked the entire park and all the paddocks were empty. There is a carousel for kids and there is a gift shop selling the exact same stuff as all of the gift shops in Amsterdam. Even though we were in Holland, Michigan, everything just says "Holland" on it - I even saw the exact clog magnet I purchased in Amsterdam for sale here! Even the paper shopping bags for small items are identical to what is available in the gift shops in Amsterdam. (The cheese is local though.) One that that was pretty cool was looking at this big miniature town that they have on display from the 1930's. If you have never been to Windmill Island Gardens, then you'll have no idea of the significance of the miniature town in Nicole Kidman's basement in the film "Holland" that she starred in. It is set in Holland Michigan and features many shots of this particular windmill. My husband and I watched it after we stumbled upon it after our visit and having been here was kind of cool while watching. Overall, I'd say you can do absolutely everything in 2 hours here, including walking the entire loop around the fields. It was fine but I'd definitely like more of the employees doing talks discussing Dutch culture, crafts, architecture, whatever. Visited: August 2025

You could stand if you wanted and help raise the sails if you wanted to. They provide us with a bottle of water or soda and a bag of chips. However, you could also take your own snacks onto the boat including liquor if you so desired. It was a 2 hours sailing trip and we left and returned within that time frame. The boat held about 20 folks and our tour was full but still plenty of room to not feel crowded. It was nice to sail out of the harbor through a canal lined with homes as we reached Lake Michigan. That part of the trip took about 20-25 minutes each way leaving about an hour to be on the lake. Once we were on the lake is when the crew with the help of various patrons raised the sails. However, we had very little wind so we really never sailed. Which for me made the trip a little boring. It would have been nice actually feel like you were sailing as a posed to just siting on the water drifting. We were maybe a mile off shore and the boat captain did tell us some history of a city that was discovered buried under the sand dunes in that area. The parking is close with bathrooms between the parking lot and the dock. So very easily accessible. Parking was free.

Also, it was a very warm night so the breeze and cooler temps on the lake were pretty perfect. The crew was exceptional and was willing to engage in conversation if that's what you were looking for, but this is not really a tour... more of an experience and an opportunity to see the beauty of Lake Michigan and the Michigan shore. I would recommend this to anyone who can handle a little bit of adventure on the water.

I tend to camp to find nature and peace, don't want to camp on a drag strip! If you don't care about camping with constant road noise, then this may be what you would like. We had company who paid for a visitor tag the one evening we were there during "shoulder" season. Most of the sites were empty, yet rangers issued a ticket for parking incorrectly! No warning! No gentle "even though we're practically empty, we will issuing tickets". The rangers patrolled though routinely never spoke to us, or acknowledge our presence. Just seemed to cop an attitude. They wouldn't even make eye contact much less talk to us. We were 4 sixty plus individuals checking out the park, not rablerousers trying to cause problems. We didn't clearly understand the strictness of the rule enforcement, would think rangers might be considerate of first time visitors especially during the slow season. Instead by ruling with a heavy hand and large fine we would not go back. While restrooms and showers were relatively clean, as campground bathrooms go, regular maintenance was being ignored, one sink and one toilet ran continuously and several of the showers had broken plumbing parts. We'd paid for two nights up front, but the rangers managed to irritate me enough that we left after one. I would hate to be there during busy season, will not return, and would never recommend staying at this campground! Found the dune behind the campground to be full of litter and just did not find anything good about our trip to Holland town or park!
