Independent Baptist Church & Academy - This church and school have been a huge blessing to us. For over 20 years Pastor Mike Creed has been a faithful and God fearing preacher.

Heartbreaking Experience -- A School That Silences Concerns Instead of Supporting Families…read more As a parent, there is nothing more painful than watching your child struggle in an environment that's supposed to uplift and guide them. Our time at Independent Baptist Academy was deeply disappointing, not only because of the harsh treatment of children, but also because of how the school treats parents who advocate for their kids. When we voiced concerns whether about academics, behavior, or emotional well-being we were met with silence, dismissal, or worse, subtle retaliation from teachers. Instead of working with us to support our child, the school seemed more interested in shutting down dialogue. The principal clearly avoids engaging with parents who expect open communication and collaborative problem-solving. If you're a parent who believes in advocating for your child, be prepared to feel like an inconvenience here. What's most troubling is that young children--especially at the first/second grade levels are disciplined harshly for normal, age-appropriate behavior. There's little grace, little patience, and very little understanding of early childhood development. On top of that, the dress code is enforced in an overly strict and often unfair manner, especially for girls, which sends the wrong message at such a formative age. This school does not foster healthy parent-school relationships, nor does it provide the kind of safe, nurturing environment children need to grow. I truly regret our decision to enroll here, and I hope other families don't have to go through the same experience.

If you want no separation of church/school, and for your child to feel downed upon while learning…read moreor being a woman this is the school for you. I went to this school most of my youth until high school, and it's got very cult like practices. Girls are shamed and frowned upon for even being near their male counterparts as a simple high five will get you a demerit. I am not sure if it is still implemented but when I was attending school there if you received a red tally or too many demerits you would receive a "paddle letter" in which your parent would have to come and spank you with a certain paddle with a rooster on it INFRONT of the principal. The education there was excellent and far superior to any other I received but at the cost of very traumatic experiences and events. I was once called out infront of the class for an F in bible class and the teacher told me infront of all of peers that I was Stupid and needed to apply myself more. This teacher knew I had Dyslexia and struggled with the reading/learning of the bible versus I was required to learn and write verbatum. This is not a safe place for girls and children to learn in, and I strongly advise you to not enroll your child as you could be setting them up for lifelong trauma. Nothing in this school and church lines up with Gods love, and how God would have wanted his teachings to be received.

My family use to have bible study at home but after joining SSBC is when we experience growth. Me and my husband couldn't teach our children everything about the bible and God but after joining SSBC we had a host of ministers and church leaders to help our children and our family to learn more about God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. My kids has come back and shared with me what they learned from our youth ministers and they not only learn but they walk in what they learned. Yes they sometimes make mistakes but that is why Jesus paid the price for our sins because we were born in sin and He made provisions for us when He gave his life on the cross for us for our sins. I had a good friend from work that loved me enough to invite me to SSBC, that's how it all began. So now, me and my family always take the apportunity to invite our family and friends to SSBC even if its not family and friends day. Please visit : http://ssbc5757.org/ God will be there and He will show up and show out!!!! Amen Amen Amen!!

The Pastor and congregation are the most friendly and inviting. Sermons are excellent and on point…read morefrom both the pastor and co pastor. Community service and engagement is outstanding and commendable. Being newly weds, we are new to the area and looking for a church home to join where we can get involved in ministries with our experiences from our former churches. I am a twice graduate from ICUA of Washington, DC & Vicinity, Inc. with certifications and would be interested in bringing my knowledge to their usher board. Thus, this excited me too about ABC. Our only drawback with joining maybe minor to others, but it's a major concern for me. It's that the music is much too loud for a small facility. The band is louder than loud and the main vocalist screams in the mic where you don't have to project your voice in a microphone. The music is so loud, by the time the sermon starts my head hurts tremendously. On one Sunday the loudness made me feel ill and on another Sunday, I simply had to leave. I am really afraid that my ears may perhaps be damaged if we continue visiting. My spouse wears hearing devices and he too indicated that the loud music is a major concern. I know there is no perfect church, but I'm so disappointed because this church is in our description of what we are looking to join, but this music matter may end up being a deal breaker for us and have us continuing our search. Hope we can find a solution.
