Dr. Rex was great with our elderly dog. He lived to 17 years and that is because of the great care he received at this vet clinic.

I don't often leave reviews on here, however my entire experience with this clinic was amazing, and I felt the need to. From the moment I walked in the front door I was greeted warmly by the ladies at the front desk. The paperwork was super fast to fill out, and I was able to get my dog an X-ray, blood test, and a week's-worth of medicine all within an hour of me walking in there. Dr. Rex was awesome, super informative, and helpful, and he even called the next day to check up on her. Really appreciated that! Makes me feel they really care about what they are doing. I really appreciate the professionalism and courtesy they showed us, even though we were visiting from out of town. 10/10 would recommend to anyone! Thank you guys! read more

We have been going to Mt.Bachelor Veterinary Hospital for 10+ years,, ! Dr. Rex and the amazing staff are wonderful! They are caring and great for getting us in if needing a Vet to see her. Sammi, white dog in pics, went to them from 1 year old to 12 when she passed. She had issues because of albinoism..allergies to all fowl .. Doctor Rex was wonderful with working with her issues..and staff gave much TLC.. We know their care helped her have a long life Our new family member, Chopa is of course a patient . She's a rescue, as was Sammi, and been with us for 5 months now. Yesterday she had a painful issue.. They got her in and Dr. Rex examined her and she's already on the road to recovery! Dr. Rex always calls to make sure all is ok.. He explains what is going on and we feel good about being able to call if any problems or questions arise! For sure MB is the best,! read more

I can not understand why anyone would give this great vet any negative comments. Perhaps by folks that don't know their animal or purposely to degrade the place to boost other vets? I don't know, but We've been going here for over a decade, with dogs and cats, and I can't say enough about their caring and treating our dogs and cat. Dr. Rex has examined and treated our pointer, yellow lab, black lab, chocolate lab and cat and we couldn't be more pleased. I'm 79 years old and have owned dogs and cats all my life, so I know how to judge veterinarian care and in my opinion this place provides the best you can expect. I had a great experience taking my boy in for dental cleaning and extractions. I was incredibly nervous because anesthesia scares me, but the staff made me feel comfortable and at ease. When it was time for me to pick him up, they explained the after care instructions in an easy way I can understand. We used Dr. Rex and Mt. Bachelor Vet Services when we moved into town and our dog needed urgent dental care. Dr. Rex and his staff gave good care, she was treated well. But when in person Dr. Rex was always abrupt with me, and as our dog developed other issues I found Dr. Rex difficult to communicate with in person. He rarely had much time for me, even as I was dealing with end of life care. Ultimately we chose not to use his services to euthanize our dog and went with someone who had a gentler touch. We're getting a new dog, and will be looking elsewhere for care. I want to be clear: Dr. Rex's medical services were fine. It was his brusqueness and lack of gentle bedside manner that will be sending us looking for a doctor that we can communicate better with. read more

I have never felt so uncomfortable dropping my cat off. My cat was taken to the bend animal hospital down the road (who by the way they are fantastic) for a Severe blockage ...UTI. Then the next am we took him over to Dr. Rex It seemed he gave no crap about what was happening when it was time to pick him up. He was unprofessional rude and short. He forgot what he even wrote down and when explained it was brief and not very helpful. He kept telling us wrong things on what to do giving him dry kibble which every other vet specified do not do that. Cats who have a issue with constant uti needs moisture and dry kibble does not have that. We took him to get fluids every day for the past 3 days... the vet tech was not helpful either she has no idea on what was happening ... he was suppose to get his meds at a certain time and they did not even do that when brought up they had "no clue" I don't recommend this vet to anyone. If you do currently go here I encourage you to find a new one. read more

Can I give a -score? Do not take your pet here. This guy knows nothing, asks questions about my cats history, and when I answer, he questions that. Not friendly, just kept asking me questions , when he had my cats records in front of him. Im like I dont know what date, its in his records I brought. Continued with questions, when I attempted to tell him, Ive had a stroke and have memory issues thats why I brought the records, all I got out was Ive had, and he giggled to himself and said can I talk? I said can I have my cat? And i went to pay, he told receptionist no charge, I said good answer. I should of realized something was fishy, when they could get my cat in right away. My cat just needed bloodwork so he could get refill on meds. But he wanted to question everything I said. He has asthma. Are you sure? Maybe he was on predisone for something else. Anyway, dont waste your time. Ive never been treated like that from any vet. Like I was a bother. read more

Dr. Rex and his team are incredibly compassionate and knowledgeable. There is no upsell for expensive and unnecessary treatments or medications. Dr. Rex truly cares about his patients and their human caregivers. When our sweet cat was suddenly ill, Dr. Rex gave us various options for how to proceed. Our cat didn't make it because of a tumor that was unable to be removed, and Dr. Rex did a biopsy after our cat passed to give our family closure. The tumor was cancerous and Dr. Rex's advice and care saved our pet from unnecessary pain. We take all of our animals to Dr. Rex and trust him implicitly! read more

We have been bringing our pets to Dr Rex since 2007. We've had it all - routine check ups, dental care, surgical procedures, emergency care, and end of life care at the clinic. The staff follows up after any major procedures to make sure things are going well. All of our animals have received the best of care. Dr Rex does a great job of explaining the options, and recommends appropriate treatment. When it was time to make the hard decision to euthanize our dogs due to age/illness, Dr Rex and the staff were incredibly compassionate. After an extremely long night of caring for a dog who was getting sick every 40 minutes, I called first thing on a Monday morning and they were able to get my guy in that morning. What I like most about this practice is that it is a no nonsense practice with a business like manner way of interacting with their clients. I find there to be a much better outcome when one works with facts rather than working on emotion, which is hard to do with a beloved part of one's family. This is why I trust Dr. Rex and his very personable staff. I never get the feeling that they are playing upon my emotions when suggesting care for my pet which can open one up for bad decisions. I would give 0 stars if it were an option. I worked for them for part of a day years ago. Within a couple hours of my first day they left me completely alone to take care of the front desk with no warning everyone just disappeared. Regardless of my previous experience, a new staff member should NEVER be left alone. The phones were ringing off the hook as a client walked in with her dog for a nail trim and Dr Rex came up and screamed at me 'what the hell is going on up here?!!' , as I was coming out of the exam room from finishing the nail trim. I was ordered already that day to deal with clients in person before handling the phones. He also treated me like an idiot the entire shift even though I have plenty of tech assisting experience, he wouldn't let me do anything yet told be to make myself more useful at the same time. I immediately quit to his face when I was done with the nail trim. I have never worked anywhere else where an old school vet felt so much more powerful and controlling over his subjects. He's a real jerk and I would never trust him with my own animals because of the way he treated me on my first hand ONLY day there. DO NOT WORK HERE! What I saw within a few short hours is just a glimpse of the reality that goes on at this place! read more

I was trying out this clinic since I'm new to the area. I raise purebred very expensive cats let's just say that. I brought in a kitten for a wellness check and vaccines two days before she went to her new home. I was sure to reiterate that she needs a thorough health check for heart, joints, eyes, ears etc. They assured me she was clear. Well the kitten was flown across the US to new York and within 3 days the new owners vet reported to me there is no way my vet could have missed this kittens heart murmur! Needless to say this clinics lack of due diligence or just doing simple procedure to protect it's customers cost me about $2000 dollars out of pocket..a lot of hassle and a huge ding on my reputation I've worked hard to uphold as a responsible honest breeder. read more

I have used Dr Rex a couple of times for emergencies with our animals. Once for our kitten who hurt his leg and the other for our elder dog who had an infection in her mouth. Both times Dr Rex was quick to get us in, he was efficient in his diagnosis and was sensitive to our emotional and financial needs. Our animals were fully taken care of and our worries for our fur babies were calmed by his incredible bed side manner. He made sure I was informed of the procedures and he even called during the day to inform me of the progress and then called the next day to check on the animals. My family has been taking our dogs here since we moved to bend. A few months ago we had to put down my sisters emotional support dog and he was EXTREMELY rude. He kept yelling at us to stop touching her and i get not wanting us in the way but he wouldnt let us hold her and kept telling us to move but didnt tell us where to move to so that we could at least see her. Also My other dog started to develop a fatty tumour and he ignored it. Dr. Rex did not listen to us when we said it was growing at an exponential rate and it was hurting her. He looked at it once, didnt even biopsy it, and sent us on our way. a few weeks ago we finally got him to remove it but when we took our dog back to get the staples out, HE MISSED 2. its not like he left them there because it wasnt healed, it was fully healed but now my baby still has two staples in her chest and my sister has trauma regarding him blowing her off while her dog was dying !!!! I've been involved in senior dog rescue in years past, but I just adopted my first senior dog in Bend. I know dentals are critical and expensive. I too took advantage of the $199 coupon special, knowing there would be additional charges for pain killers, fluids, extractions, etc. But silly me, I didn't ask questions and I wasn't given an estimate, but I did not request one. When Dr Rex told me the dog's teeth were so horrid they would probably all come out (I wasn't surprised), and the $200 extraction would probably swap out for the $200 cleaning, I was still expecting $199 + extras to make the dog comfortable. So I didn't ask enough questions about the cost, and their coupon is a bit of shady advertising/lack of disclosure. BUT, since my regular vet quoted $550-$850, I got a deal for $488. Dr Rex called the next day and spent a few minutes chatting with me, and my senior is recovering well, so over all, this was a good experience. read more

I don't get a lot of the negative reviews here. Seems that many of these good folks were more upset with the bad news they got that the level of care that Dr. Rex extended. I've been coming to Dr. Rex for the past three years since moving to Bend. I've had two pets, a dog and a cat, both with serious health conditions. Dr. Rex was great at explaining possible scenarios and providing quality care. He was always interested in getting the correct diagnosis, and on several occasions I was not charged for procedures, such as ultra-sound and x-rays. Dr. Rex was always a pragmatist with me when it came to options for my aging animals, and he never suggested expensive procedures that were impractical in light of the remaining natural lifespan of my pets. I've never felt I was overcharged at Mt. Bachelor Vet, in fact I was usually surprised at how low the bill was considering the care that was provided. When the times came to euthanize my pets, Dr. Rex made a personal visit to my house. He was skillful and sensitive to both me and the pets, giving me time to say goodbye and not causing the pets any undo stress. I would highly recommend Dr. Rex to anyone looking for a quality vet in Bend. I'm a local, and this is a real review. read more

My review remains unchanged. Dr. Rex's remarks change nothing about how we were treated - you may say you "reviewed the notes" - really, you REMEMBER us 9 months later? I sincerely doubt that. I now take our pets to Dr. Steve at Bend Animal Hospital where we are treated respectfully and our dog it is given the care we feel is necessary. After Dr. Steve recommended conservative crate rest, Bijou is back to a full range of motion, walking, and playing as good as new. That speaks for itself. read more

We are staying in Sunriver and a couple of days ago and my dog caught her nail on the entryway to our rental. It was pretty dramatic since nails bleed like crazy. We wrapped her foot for the night and I called them first thing in the morning. They open at 7:30 and are located 12 minutes from our house. They got her in promptly at 9:00am. The team at Mt. Bachelor Vet was extremely helpful and nice to us. Having a dog get injured during vacation is extremely stressful and generally very costly. My dog had to be completely sedated during her procedure and we got all of her shots updated while we were there. The cost of treatment wasn't bad at all and the vet wasn't the type to force treatments and tests on you. He hand drew the procedure out for me and gave me a choice. When I came back to pick her up, she was happy and hanging out and free roaming with the staff. They were sad to see her go and that made me smile read more

I'm surprised to see all the terrible reviews on here. My experience with Dr. Rex was great! I brought my dog in because she had a weird rash on her face. Originally I thought it was from our other dog rough housing with her. However, Dr. Rex determined it was a skin condition specific to her breed - I would've never figured it out but after going home and researching, it made perfect sense! He sent us home with some low cost antibiotic and some dietary advice to help keep the condition at bay. A week later, he called personally to follow up and ask how she was doing. Dr Urich was fabulous! After going to another vet who told me I needed both of my Dogs teeth cleaned and I took them to him for a second opinion. One dog did not have to get put under to have his teeth cleaned. I did not need to have him sedated and Rex cleaned his teeth in a jiffy. My other dog did need her teeth cleaned and he did a great job. She usually shakes like a leaf when she goes to my other vet, but he was so gentle and sweet to her that she was not nervous at all. He is the most knowledgable vet and explains things clearly. Both Dogs loved him! He is a very caring compassionate Doctor much different than the giant clinic I had taken them to in the past! I took my dog here for a teeth cleaning because the coupon in Red Book was a really good deal. The receptionist was very sweet and I felt good when I dropped my best k9 friend off. They called me to say that he needed 7 teeth pulled and that I should have a tumor under his eyelid removed. I agreed and my $199 teeth cleaning went up to $600. No worries, but when I went to pick up my dog, he had caked on pee on his legs and feet. It was disgusting. They cleaned him up (barely) gave me some antibiotics and pain meds and I went home. On Sunday night my dog seemed uncomfortable and I called but got no response so I called my regular vet in Bend. They said one of the stitches had probably turned and I should take him in to see them in the morning. (Cost effective and it did not seem like an emergency) Well I should have gone to my regular vet, but I decided to give Dr. Rex another shot. He did squeeze me in before another patient was to arrive, but when he came out to talk with me, he was a mess and stunk of cigarettes. He gave me an ointment to use for pain And said he gave him an antibiotic shot. I thanked him and left. My dog again started to have problems a day later. I just could not bring myself to go back to Dr. Rex. I went to my regular vet and this time, I was invited into the exam room (as it should be) and my vet make my dog feel at ease and was loving, and it was clean, and she showed me how to apply the new meds, and I will always go to my real vet at Bend Animal Hospital... It probably would have cost less too! read more

Will NOT USE Dr Rex again. No compassion when putting down our 14 year old family dog a few months ago, treats our pets like they are farm animals, not members of the family, provided us with false information which resulted in the death of our family cat. He down-played the importance of taking our cat to the emergency hospital for overnight monitoring, made us think that she would be fine and there was nothing that would warrant the expense (although he said "I have to tell you that you're supposed to take her to the emergency clinic, but...". A couple of hours later, she started having trouble breathing and died on the way to the emergency clinic. There are a few possibilities, but they have all lead me to the conclusion to not use this vet again. read more

I will NEVER be using this vet clinic again. Dr Rex was so mean to me during one of the most painful times in my life. We had to put our 15 year old lab down this past week. We have had him since he was 6 weeks old and we loved him more than anything in this world. This was a heart breaking decision and we didn't enter into it lightly. Dr Rex had been our vet since we moved to Bend. Our dogs hadn't been in for anything other than annual check ups and shots, and we were pretty happy with Mt Bachelor vet up until this point. I called to make the euthanasia apt and the vet tech said that Dr Rex would have to talk to me about and he was busy, but would call me back. The end of the day he calls me. Doesn't ask if I'm a patient, just why would I put my dog down. I explain his back legs are no longer working, he won't eat, won't go to the bathroom and he was just continually going downhill. Dr Rex says, "so he is an inconvenience to you and you don't want him anymore?" Excuse me? He is 15. I don't want him to endure some surgery or live the rest of his life all drugged up. He proceeds to tell me its all my fault he is like this and that I'm a horrible owner then hangs up on me! I love my dogs more than life itself and anyone who knows me can see that. We ended up taking him to Bend Vet clinic who was amazing and the vet did assure me that there was nothing that could be done. Thanks for breaking my heart even more Dr Rex. The staff at this location was great, with the exception of their lead vet Dr. Rex. I brought my beloved 9 year old cat in earlier this week to be seen by him because she has been losing weight and wasn't eating her food. I had my 5 year old daughter with me at the time, and when "Dr." Rex came in, he opened my cat's mouth and pretty much told me she was going to die. He said it with so little feeling, and never even asked if I wanted to discuss her fate without my daughter in the room. He went on to say that there were tests we could run to diagnose her problem, but they would cost a lot of money and he made them seem like they would be pointless. After letting me digest the news for about 30 seconds he says "so what do you want to do?". I asked him to run her blood work just to be certain she's as bad as she thinks she is (she wasn't). He grabs my cat and storms off to the other room. This man is the least compassionate vet I've ever encountered. I think he realized he was being rude prior to her blood work because when he came back he gave me a few encouraging words and then left. I don't care if this vet is just jaded because he's had to break the news too many times, or what. But when you're the face of your clinic, and you're left to give devastating news to pet owners, you should at least pretend like you care about the animal. read more

I had ACL surgery performed by Dr. Rex on my 11 yr old heeler. He was straight forward about everything including the cost. What to expect, etc. My dog is healing slowly, which I feel is NO reflection on the care she has been given. Dr. Rex has personally called me at least 5 times concerning my dog and I have returned several times at no charge to have her looked at again.
