Like all of Auckland's 'mountains', this is just really just a hill with aspirations. You won't find snow on top but you will get some pretty sweet views of Auckland (and, depending on the weather and the time of day, some pretty amazing skies).
The roads and houses go quite a way up the hill, so if you drive up to the gate of the park there's actually not too much of a walk to the summit. If you need the exercise you could even run it, although I find a lazy dawdle up to the top much more my style.
The summit is of course the highlight (I'll thank you not to make puns about how it's the 'high' light), but that's not to say the rest of it isn't pleasant. There's an archery field, for those who like archery, and at least one bench under some eucalypts that is an ideal spot to sit quietly and watch birds (we got some nice pictures of an unconcerned tui last time we were here). Does this review make me sound old? I don't care. read more
