The owner was very friendly and helpful. She makes some of the jewelry and sells pieces of many…read morelocal artists. Some of the items include pretty pictures of the great Smoky mountains, homemade wooden baskets for decor or Christmas ornaments, small paintings, and different kinds of jewelry. One jewelry I really liked and is unique was a necklace of an antler and turquoise stone. The antlers are naturally shed and she cuts them into pieces to put the turquoise stone on. Also got some bracelets made with turquoise stones. There was only one left of the turquoise bracelet that I wanted but it was too tight. The owner graciously offered to make it bigger so it could fit. She let me try on the bracelet to make sure it was a size I wanted. The bracelets came with one charm of my picking. There were different kinds of charms including a tree, leaf, butterfly, and dragonfly. I appreciated the owner being willing to make a deal when I bought more than one of the same jewelry. My experience was one of the best customer service I have ever received. Definitely a must stop if you're in Maggie Valley!

Mike was an absolute incredible instructor. He met every person where they were at, and ensured that everyone left with a mug they were proud of. My husband and I had SO much fun in this class. In addition to the incredible experience, the craftsmanship in the shop is absolutely incredible. I am so excited about the gorgeous utensil holder we're bringing home with this incredible dogwood flower carving on it. Genuinely, I cannot state this stronger: if Fowler's is not a part of your plan in Gatlinberg, you are absolutely missing out. This place is amazing.

He showed our class how to build a mug on a throwing wheel and made you feel empowered while building the piece even if you're a rookie like me. He made our entire class feel at easy and enjoy the experience. Once we received our pieces in the mail, we couldn't believe how nice the glazing & color came out. Sampled one of their teas, Apricot Brandy, and it was amazing! My second visit was for a Japanese culture class. Another wonderful experience shared with many along with delicious tea. First floor is cozy with plenty of nooks to sit and be comfortable. I see patrons working, reading or crafting enjoying a drink or a pastry the establishment offers. You can also purchase loose leaf tea they serve as well as their branded merchandise along with local designers. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and I am looking forward to many more visits to the Philosopher's House.

They offer a variety of arts and crafts classes downstairs and have over 60 juried artists that sell their art in the store. We enjoyed our short pit stop here and we each bought a small souvenir before getting back on the road.
