Kyle's kind and confident approach has really allowed my daughter to shine. As a teen, she struggles at times with motivation to practice, but he is always very patient and encouraging. Something I also appreciate about Kyle is that he tries to cater to my daughter's interests by allowing her to bring music she is interested in learning to lessons. Stay away if you want your kids to actually learn to read music. My kids had a great handle on…read moremusic reading when we moved and James took over. Within 2 years, they could hardly read music at all, as they taught them to play by sound, which is OK if they also learn to read music but not if that is all they are taught. They never disclosed this and, since we had sheets of music, we thought they were reading it, but they actually had memorized it with James, their teacher. We finally caught on and are now redoing it all with another teacher. What a miserable experience. When questioned, they stated they don't teach to read music and we should have known that. Never did a conversation happen or a paper come home that stated that.

I've never had any kind of musical training before--though I've always been a huge music fan--and I used to think I missed my chance by not starting as a kid. Louise has completely changed that mindset for me and shown me that it's truly never too late. I enjoy every single lesson. She has helped me learn how to actually use my voice, and I've noticed such a difference over time. I love the warm-ups--sometimes my voice feels weak when we start, but after a few exercises I feel strong, comfortable, and ready to sing. No matter what song or genre I choose, she can play it beautifully on the piano and guide me toward the right tone and technique. She has an incredible ear for music and is clearly so talented. I was nervous starting out, but Louise immediately made me feel at ease. It's a complete no-judgment zone. She's incredibly understanding--whether my body feels tired or my throat feels off, she always has thoughtful, helpful advice. She's also very accommodating when I've needed to change appointments, which I really appreciate. What I love most is how fun the lessons are. It truly feels like meeting with a friend. I leave every session feeling confident, energized, and in a great mood for the rest of the day. I'm genuinely excited to see where this journey takes me. In my opinion, it was a great fit for him after having had multiple life changes over the previous few years. (divorce, multiple moves, so on) The small class sizes here allow teachers to gain a perspective on students that a typical classroom, quite simply, probably wouldn't allow. I thoroughly appreciated the insights teachers provided during P/T conferences. They gave not only academic but social insights into my son's life that I would not have otherwise had. (Don't tell him I said that ) Having said all of that, he decided to go to elsewhere for his high school years. Whether or not it's a good decision for him remains to be seen. In any case, I would urge parents (and their students!) to consider Collegiate Academy. As parents we must help our kids decide what is best for them at a given time. The beauty of Jeffco is this ability to have options. We haven't had this option presented so cleanly to us in any other school system. Please check them out.

We changed to collegiate and a world of a difference happened. She is no longer on IEP at grade level or above all from changing schools and how they taught. She only has 15 people in her class. The staff teachers admin principal all have been amazing. Can not recommend this school enough. It was like a private school with out the cost.
