I am a Texan from the USA, but I really love Turkish Döner Kebap. And, whenever my wife and I visit…read morefamily in Germany we make it a point to eat at least one Döner. Last time we were here, we had one from Istanbul Döner Kebap and it was good, even though we realized it was made from chicken and not from beef and lamb.
During this visit to Germany we also ate a Döner from Istanbul Döner Kebap, but had a completely different experience. This time, the man who served us - a small man with a balding head - was very rude and did not want to give us a salad made with the Döner Kebap vegetables. He was determined that he only give us from a different assortment of Turkish vegetables steeped in oil.
What we wanted was a plate with some green lettuce, sliced onions, sliced tomatoes, white cabbage, sauce, and spices. But, confused by his reluctance to give us what we were asking for, we took what he gave us.
We ordered two normal (chicken meat) Döner Kebap sandwiches and two Döner Plates. We also had to order a Side Salad in an effort to get what we actually wanted. On the Döner Plates we were given no Döner Kebap vegetables and on the Side Salad we were given so much green lettuce, there was little room left for the other Döner Kebap vegetables. In the end, we gave up trying.
As mentioned, the biggest takeaway from our experience was that this man was completely rude, unfriendly. We will NOT eat from Istanbul Döner Kebap ever again! Instead, we will get our Döner Kebap somewhere else!!
Sure, if you're wanting Döner from chicken meat, this place may be your only option, but we do not recommend Istanbul Döner Kebap if you want a pleasant experience. Besides that, there are much tastier Döner Kebap elsewhere.
Eat well. Be well. Cheers!
