I bought all the materials and he did all the labor, usually with one helper each day, taking about 3 almost full work days and charging only $500. Nicely done and will post photo of fireplace and hearth/bench. Final job of completely remodeling master bath was completed yesterday. Again I selected and bought all the materials, and paid $3000 for labor.....at least a $3000 saving under other bidder. This job took 9 work days for 2-3 workers everyday but they removed all tlle, gutted the shower, removed appliances including vanity, and retiled from scratch and did a beaurtiful job with some bonus touches such as framing the mirror and installing plastic baseboards. Quality of tile work was much superior to prior surfaces, however the master tile guy spoke minimal english and sometimes made decisions on his own without asking...also rigid about what materials he used. However Carlos acted as buffer and we ended up with a fine product...and Carlos was proud of the results.

The project included extended the walls 2 feet higher, installing shelving and installing a ceiling made with lattice panel and shade cloth. Initially, he told me that he will give a material list so I can buy the items. During the conversation he called home depot and inquired about product availability and price. It was agreed that 20 pieces of 2 x 4 x 12 (Home depot id #161667, each at $7.88 and 4 pieces of 5/8 plywood Home Depot id#166081, each at $27.77 will be needed. However, at the end of the conversation he said that he will buy the lumber as his truck is more suited to transport the material. He requested $300.00 dollars to buy 20, 2 x 4 x 12 ft of planks and 4 sheets of 5/8 plywood. I gave him the requested $300.00 On May 20, 2018, Chris called me. I was at the flea Market. He indicated that he wanted to review the required Material list. He arrived as the market was closing with 15 pieces of 2 x 4 of 4 ft lengths and 3/16 plywood of various length (ATTACHMENT B4, B5) 9 at 7 inches, 1 at 6 inches and I at 27 inches. He indicated that he had cut the 4ft lengths from the 12 ft lengths that he had purchased and the plywood widths were cut from full widths. He indicated that he will bring the rest of the lumber tomorrow (May 212018, the date that he will do the work). I told him that the delivered material was not the same as we discussed and agreed upon (the agreed material was 20 pieces of 2 x 4 x 12 (Home depot id #161667, each at $7.88 and 4 pieces of 5/8 plywood Home Depot id#166081, each at $27.77. He also gave me a paper and he indicated that it was the receipt for the material he purchased. I reviewed the document and told him that it was not a receipt but a quote (ATTACHMENT A) . He indicated that he had a commercial account with Home Depot and a receipt is not issued with his usage but is reflected in his monthly statement and he give a copy of the statement when he receives it. I insisted on a receipt. He said we will bring a receipt the next day 5/21/2018 (the date that he will do the work}. He left the market. Afterward, I looked at the material and noticed that that the quality of the material was unacceptable. The plywood pieces were dirty (ATTACHMENT B3) and the 2 x4 were very rough and had a lot of roughness and both sides were unsurfaced (ATTACHMENTS C2 TO C6). Some pieces were labeled with a barcode that reference clearance and the dimensions from the piece it was cut from (ATTACHMENT C1) and each piece of the 2x4 was labeled 1.00 indicating that each was priced at $1.00 (ATTACHMENT C7 to C9) . The 27-inchwide piece of plywood was labeled 3.00 indicating it was priced at $3.00 and one piece of the 7-inch-wide plywood was labeled 0.50 indicating it was priced 0.50 cent (ATTACHMENT B1 and B2) I immediately called Chris and informed about the condition and markings on the products. He claimed that he personally cut the product and they were correct. I reminded to receipts for all the material purchased. He said that he will. On May 21, 2018 Chris was supposed to be at the flea market to do the work. At 9:07, I received a text from Chris which states: " I'll be heading out to shortly. I'm waiting on Perry" Chris never showed up. I telephoned him times and left messages each time. I called 4 times between 11:29 AM, and 1PM, 1 time at 3:28PM, and twice around 4:50PM. I also sent him a text at 10:21AM and at 10:35AMIn one of the text and several of the telephone messages. I requested that Chris return my $300.00. There were 2 incoming telephone calls from Chris's telephone number, around 2:2pm. However, there was no response upon answering each call. Letter regarding the service provided by Electric Quest:…read more I initially called this company because I suspected there was wire damage underneath my manufactured home resulting from when previous companies went under the house to explore the water leak damage. When the electrician came he spent several hours fiddling around with the electrical panel and testing the outlets throughout the home, but he refused to don the white Tyvek type suit that all tradesmen wear when they come to do work under these type of homes. He said the work had to wait until the floors were torn up in order for him to do his job properly. That is entirely not true and if he couldn't do what he was asked to do in the first place, he never should have come to my home. The company should have either refused the job or sent someone that was willing to go underneath my home to see if there was in fact damaged wires under the home. Instead of doing the job properly, the electrician decided to rig an alternative form of supplying electricity to one section of my home where the outlets were not working by connecting a wire from a light-switch and run it down the wall, along the floor, then hook up a box in front of an existing non-working outlet. I did not agree with his solution to fixing the electrical problem in my home, but I was too exhausted to debate the situation with him. I figured he must know what he was doing. So, when he was finished with the job, I paid him, asked him for his supervisor's name, and he went on to his next job. Later that day, I found out I still didn't have power to my kitchen island, which was also part of the job I had paid him to fix! I took pictures of his work and showed it to friends who told me that what he did didn't look like it was a legal way of doing things and that it did not look safe. I don't know if it is up to legitimate safety standards according to The International Electrotechnical Commission, but every contractor and handyman that has been to my house and looked at it has told me that it does not look legal. I also found out that he had cut my light-switch plate damaging it in order to attach the wire and he cut the wallpaper outside of the light-switch and cut a deep hole into the drywall that will need to be repaired once the electrical wiring is repaired by by a proper electrician more capable of doing the job correctly. I do not have wallpaper to match the area that he damaged. I contacted the company and tried to get a refund from them or to get them to come out and fix it properly and they refused to do so. The office manager would not even let me speak with the supervisor of the electrician that came to my home. Her excuse for him not going under the home was that it was "too dangerous, because the floor was falling down." That statement is completely false, the floor is not falling down, the vapor barrier had been cut to let the water out and some of the insulation was hanging down a little, but none of the floor is falling down. The only thing that would make going under the home dangerous, in my opinion, is if the electrical wires that needed to be checked under there were live and if this qualified licensed electrician neglectfully did not turn off the power to all electrical lines going to the home, which, being a qualified, licensed electrician, you would think would be highly unlikely to happen, at the risk of being redundant, it would only make sense that he would turn off all of the circuit breakers prior to going underneath to inspect the wires, thereby eliminating any potential risk of electrocution danger! So, that statement doesn't hold up as fact that there was any danger to him going under the home to inspect for damaged wires. After several tries of calling to speak with the supervisor, I found that my calls were no longer going through on any of their advertised phone numbers. It seems, they blocked my phone number so I could no longer even try to call for the supervisor. What kind of company blocks people's numbers, refuses to let customers speak to the supervisors when there it a situation with an employee, and allows their worker to go to someone's home and do everything, but what they were sent over there to do and then takes their money? I do not recommend hiring Electric Quest, Appliance Quest, or Cool Quest, any Quest company, the same office manager answered the phone for all of their phone numbers. If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get my money back from this company, I would love to hear about it. Thank you.

However, we learned later that the drywall professional who was next in line to work on our previously flooded house was unable to start his work of putting up new drywall because both the rough-in and the trim work by the electrician had already been completed. Not having an electrician license, the drywall professional told us that the electrician should be called to undo the final trim work after the drywall had been installed and that all electricians know that it is a two-step process when there is drywall to be installed. The call was made to ElectricQuest and Kurt informed us that it is not his responsibility to come back out without charging an additional amount of money to undo what he had done. He said that the drywall person should be able to take care of that himself and reconnect all the outlets himself. The ElectricQuest receptionist agreed and verified on a recorded line that it doesn't matter who messes with the electrical work after they have completed their job - their company is fully licensed and insured and assume the liability for the initial warrantied work that they completed. This has really put us, the senior-aged clients, in a precarious position. We cannot or should not have to take on this project ourselves, but it's either that or spend another $700 with ElectricQuest after we have already paid them $4555.00. My question is: Are there any drywall installers who agree with this and are accustomed to removing outlets and replacing them as they put on new drywall? Who is right and who is wrong here?
