I recently called up the services of Moving On following the death of my Mum in the Sydney metro area.
Not having ever managed an estate before, and living across the other side of the country, I was sort of at a loss where to start in order to clear the house and get it ready for sale.
Lisa Oshlack was the woman behind the company and the one with whom I had the majority of contact. I found her to be extremely efficient, approachable, understanding and professional.
The main reason I ended up with using the services of Moving On was the sheer brilliance of it being a 'one stop' business that performed not only the clearance part, but also was the conduit behind other ancillary chores such as decisions regarding presenting the house for sale, the provision of cleaners, tradesmen, gardeners, toxic / chemical removal and, best of all, the passing on of goods 'too good to chuck' to an auction house.
The fee was pretty steep, I'll admit that. But having nothing to compare it to (because no other service provider covered all the aspects that Moving On did) and for the unmitigated relief of only having to arrange all that through one place, it was worth it.
Loss of one star for a couple of little mishaps with a damaged light fitting and some accidental paint removal from one wall. All these were declared, there was no secret. And let's face it, in the process of removal of a house holds worth of goods (and 35 years worth of living) a small breakage here or there is inevitable.
The house is now clear, clean, smells terrific, looks a picture in the sales catalogues and is officially on the market. In terms of alleviating emotional distress, for the alternative of having to deal with all of that myself, I'd give Moving On ten stars. read more
