If you're into a paleo or keto lifestyle, this is the place for you. Full stop…read more From the savory avocado toast selections (on a bread consisting of nuts & seeds in lieu of flour) to the delightful low-carb ice cream (as well as milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, and sundaes), everything I had here thoroughly satisfied my keto-craving palate. Would return in a heartbeat if I find myself back in the Gold Coast region.

On holiday in the Gold Coast from New Zealand, my wife and I popped in just wanting a trim mocha…read more They don't do trim, and the milk is unhomogenised. But it is still great coffee. Not knowing anything about the paleo diet, we discovered that this establishment is a proponent of all things paleo. We had the paleo brekky and were hooked. Their coconut yoghurt is absolutely divine. Grass fed beef and organic chicken used to make their bone broth...this type of establishment is not what the multinational food corporations want you to know about. The energy and vitality one ingests from consuming real whole foods makes one wonder why one ate multinational crap and junk food for so long! I also bought the family sized take home vacuum pack of chicken bone broth. Wow! What a meal. Absolutely love this food and the clean eating lifestyle it promotes. When ever I eat at a cafe I usually order the big breakfast, preferring not to eat the carbs. Brio doesn't do big breakfasts, but the breakfast they do do are so much better for ya. Been eating there everyday since. I missed Saturday but made up for that by going in twice on Friday! #boom They are closed Sunday. Love, love and mad love.

How super-cute is this place!!! I loved the bohemian-chic atmosphere complete with wicker chairs,…read moremismatched furniture, beaded chandeliers, random seating arrangements, Moroccan wall hangings, and outdoor benches with funky tent-like drapes billowing over them. Definitely a nice change from all the super-trendy, super-sleek Broadbeach eateries surrounding this place. The Cardamom Pod is charming without trying to be trendy or upmarket. Both times I went, I got a mix of things from the display case with rice and a savoury pie. This is a vegetarian restaurant, but they have clearly-marked vegan options and their staff knows what "vegan" means. Unfortunately, the two nights I went, the vegan stuff was mostly already gone, so I didn't have much of a selection. So vegans might want to make this more of a lunch or early-evening stop rather than heading in after 7pm like I did. On the flip side, because they were trying to get rid of their remaining food before closing, I did get a nice discount :) Food was tasty and filling, not amazing, but nice. My mom (who is not a vegan or vegetarian) got the non-vegan lasagne and raved about it. Only downside is it did seem like their regular prices are a little steep. Then again, this is a touristy area and most people around here are on holiday and willing to splash a little cash. Will definitely go back the next time I'm in the Gold Coast!

This was actually one of my favorite places I ate in the Gold Coast…read more After a few intense days of travel, I took a bit of a walk down the beach to get to The Cardamom Pod - because it looked fab from the reviews. I was not let down! I got a cute little table in the super adorable boho styled restaurant. I prefered the order at the counter and sit down type of style for lunch, as it gets kind of lonely when you have table service for one all the time. So I was happy that was the case here! #travellife I got the three entree plate and holy sh*t that was a good idea. I had a salad, an indian rice, and a veggie curry. I seriously ate that in less than a minute, it was so good. I also got a chai latte because those are always good, but I seriously ate my lunch before that chai came out. Good thing about chai is that it can also act as dessert, but I decided to go full force and get a vegan ice cream sundae also because I was starving and I can't turn down vegan desserts. I saw the looks of jealousy from the tables next to me. I was so happy to have my first vegan ice cream sundae in the two and a half years I've been vegan. As much as I tried, I could not finish that thing, so I took the brownie to go and it was a great snack later on the bus (where I also received looks of jealousy). I'd totally recommend the Cardamom Pod for a casual lunch in Gold Coast. I'd say the only drawback was that it was a tad pricy, but the vegan options and super cute ambiance make up for that.
