My friends and I ventured here for a Fish Fry during Lent. Parking was easy, and there were plenty of people on staff to make this popular event run smoothly. By the main entrance, there was a "to go" table, where people wanting take away fish could pay and order. Those like us, who were dining in, were sent to the rear of the building to pay, receive a meal ticket, and hand it off to a volunteer who would fill our order. The volunteers were mainly pre-teens who did an adorable job of bringing us our food. For $8.00, we had a gigantic filet of fish and three sides. I opted for mac n' cheese, hush puppies, and cole slaw. All of these were homemade and delicious. The slaw was heavy on the sauce, which I spread onto my fish as a garnish. They also serve beer for a few dollars extra, or you can have lemonade which is included in your meal. The community hall is very spacious; almost feels like a gymnasium. The dining area was spaced out and accommodated the crowd. Plus the tables held a lot of people: we squeezed over 10 people in at our table. Each week, the Codfathers aka fish cook, dress in different themed outfits. This week, it was Roman Togas. Overall, I'd say this is a pretty great fish fry! Price per person: $8.00

Draft beer is $3, soda and bottled water were $2 (I think) and they have complimentary water and lemonade, which the student servings offered to bring to our table. If the tartar sauce was homemade rather than packets, it would knock it out of the park! If you're new to this one, you might get a little confused by the set up especially if you enter through the community room (or what was the old gym) lobby where they're selling takeout orders. In that case, go through the big room, past two more tables until you're outside the gym and facing a table where you can place an order. Then, pay at the next table, then get seated and your ticket is taken to the kitchen and your order will be delivered by a friendly student! Other students walk around selling desserts. On our way out, we stopped I the kitchen to meet the cooks who were dressed in togas for that week's theme. You can tell they enjoy serving up the food each week!

We visited St. Lawrence today and it is a beautiful church. As for it's history, the first church…read morewas built as a smaller, 2-story red brick building across the street from it's present location. However, after the floods of 1883 and 84, many residents around Cincinnati moved to the higher areas of price hill. So many that a new, much larger church had to be built and was dedicated in 1894. It is now a Gothic-style church made mostly of limestone. One of it's spires reaches 189 feet and inside it's largest tower are housed 2 huge bells - one of them 1 ton and the other over 2 tons! Looking in the front, you will see an enormous rose window which is breathtaking! Part of it is hidden inside by an immense pipe organ with over 3,000 pipes! The stations of the cross were crafted in heavy plaster in France and are a sight to see. Truly this church is gorgeous inside and out. Something that might appeal to parishioners (at least on the day that we went), was that the services lasted all of 37 minutes! Only 2 verses of each song was sang and the rest of mass felt faster paced. No consecrated wine was offered. This church is associated with it's own school. They still have bingo, Knights of Columbus, scouting, an annual festival and a monthly social.

I attended this church as a part of a tour group through the Cincinnati Museum Center. We were on a church tour and scheduled time at College Hill Presbyterian. This church is set up like a T, meaning that the stage and where the pulpit is can be seen from the left and right sides, as well as the center section. Although the church is very old itself, they have renovated and restored most of the inside of the building. They have modernized everything to include digital presentations and slide shows throughout the church. The lobby or atrium (between both the old and new buildings) is built very nicely, allowing lots of light to enter the building. We were greeted by the historian of the church, who proceeded to tell us lots of neat stories about the church's history. It is great to see a staff so knowledgeable! We were then invited to have lunch in the common area. It was done very well and set up so nicely. I do believe that lunch was catered in; however, I am not sure if that person was on the staff of the church or just someone they knew--but great job to all! The highlight of this church was also the Oregon! You have to go check it out! I have never seen an organ that impressive. Modeled after a church in New York, this organ has been updated to be electric. It sounded like an entire orchestra was in their church building, yet it was just an organ.

Visitation is a good mix of old and new. It's big and modern looking, with ceiling fans and lots of square designs and architecture. Mass without kneelers is just weird. It's located too far from our home to ever be our regular parish but when I'm on the west side and looking to get right with God, this is the place.

The organist and choir are top-notch, and the clergy members are approachable, attentive, intelligent, and progressive. It's a relatively diverse population, and everyone is incredibly friendly to both newcomers and one another. Many families have attended for multiple generations, and it has a sizable group of young families, so plenty of children to socialize with one another. The church is located close to the Ohio River, so easily accessible from any of the Northern Kentucky communities or from Cincinnati -- I used to get to the parking lot in 12 minutes from Hyde Park. If I were back in the Cincinnati area, it would be my spot for worship, for sure.
