I'm old enough to remember the first dot.com boom and subsequent bust in the late 90's/early 2K's. During the boom, I was a struggling actor/bartender renting a room in San Francisco apartment. Our building was purchased and we were bought out. The buyout was fair enough but all that I could afford was living in a loft situation with about 12 other strangers. During the next year I remember having to move 6 times for an assortment of reasons. I got really good at moving but didn't like it one bit. Fast forward to 13 years ago. I moved into a magnificent Victorian apartment building in San Francisco whose owner/caretakers had created a rich history of community, philanthropy, and sanctuary since 1971. Nothing lasts forever and sadly the owners' time on this plane was soon to be gone. I received notice of intentions for the building to be put on the market.... Almost immediately I had flashbacks of how tasking the moving process was. I now had 13 years of stuff to sift through and didn't have the bandwidth to add house-hunting to my daily schedule. I work for a housing nonprofit and had no additional capacity to stare at a computer on a hunt for listings, send and respond to emails, schedule viewings, follow up, and apply. Then I remembered back in my younger days that my friend Joe (who was ahead of his time) hired me on to help him with his start-up relocation service. He called it Living Spaces. I was in a place where I could afford to hire a relocation agency and perused the different businesses in the Bay Area. Having the experience of moving multiple times in a short time, as well as being self-aware enough to know which creature comforts were and weren't important, I knew how to move forward. After some research I hired Move Bay Area. I'm so glad I did! I initially spoke with Lisa & Amy to assess my needs and what Move Bay Area offered. I let them know that I was going to take this transition as an opportunity to move back to the East Bay. I was then partnered with Michelle S.. Michelle was on it from the get go. We agreed to a 1-Day Viewing Package, which was going to be straight forward, quick, and intense. She created a personalized online folder for me to upload important information and documents to have ready when it came time to apply. In the weeks leading up to our viewing day, she compiled a list of properties for me to review and prioritize - offering her insight on amenities, logistics, and perks. Michelle was also receptive to feedback and pushed me (thankfully) to expand my priorities and price points. On the day of, we drove all over, visiting Jack London Square, Temescal, Adams Point, and Piedmont, among other areas. Once I finalized my top 3 listings Michelle helped guide me through the application process. Michelle really is a gem. Personable, funny, smart, sharp, and generous with her knowledge. I fell in love with the second listing we visited. I applied, moved in, and am sitting in my new home office on my 3rd morning here - at home. I'm so glad that I contacted Move Bay Area. Thanks Michelle! BRAVO!! read more

We chose this company based on the reviews but that was a mistake. We were sent a questionnaire and that's where it ended. We filled the questionnaire out within the hour and replied to the email saying it had been finished. We got no response for four days so we called on the fifth. It's been three days since and we're still being ghosted. We were very clear that we were going to be in the area this coming weekend and week because we do not live in the area. If you don't want to work with us then, at the least, send an email saying so or don't bother sending the survey. If they had responded in any way at all I wouldn't be bothering with this review but people should know that you are very likely not going to get a response. read more

Believe these reviews! Val, Lisa and the team at MBA provided me "white glove" service from first contact until lease signing. And I was not easy - I had a very specific set of criteria and this is a very tight leasing market in SF. Val showed me at least 20 places - in person, seven days a week - before we finally found the right fit. Always with a smile and professionalism. Most importantly, I am positive I got the place I did because Val made the effort to reach out to the owner in advance of her open house and make a pitch for why I'd be the best tenant for her. This extra effort sealed the deal in my opinion. Seriously, I cannot recommend this firm more highly to navigate a very unique real estate rental market. read more

Move Bay Area was indispensable in helping find an apartment in SF for my son and his roommate. Michelle helped us navigate the insanely heated rental market, arranging showings and taking us to appointments, then aided us in securing the place we chose all the way through lease signing. Can't imagine having done it ourselves, especially from across the country. read more

I worked with Lisa and the Move Bay Area team to rent my condo. It's been a long time since I have looked for housing - or had friends who were moving to SF - and I've never been a landlord before. I got started on my own but quickly realized I had no idea what I was doing; after a month of trying to rent the unit via my employer's internal job board and Craigslist, we had almost no interest in the unit. I reached out to a handful of property management services to see about getting help. Lisa assessed our situation personally, wanting to know what our goals were in renting; how we were thinking about approaching the application process; how much involvement we wanted to have as landlords. I was very anxious about the complicated and risky prospect of being a San Francisco landlord. Lisa was exceptionally responsive and very detail-oriented in helping to strategize finding a tenant and understanding the implications of renting the property. She has a ton of experience representing relocating clients, too, so was able to consult with the way that people looking to rent might be thinking about potential apartments. Within literally one day of working with Move Bay Area we had three great applicants and a consultation with a very experienced San Francisco attorney to better understand the nuances of San Francisco rental regulations. Lisa's experience, expertise and excellent service were a game-changer and I would recommend Move Bay Area to ANYONE looking to rent their property. read more

We were referred to Lisa McCarrell of Move Bay Area by a realtor friend when we needed to rent out one of the units of our two-unit building. It was the first time we had to find tenants after owning our building for 30 years (after a family member moved out). Rental laws have drastically changed in San Francisco since we last had tenants 27 years ago. We were afraid of saying the wrong thing to prospective tenants, didn't want to have to deal with showing the unit or selecting tenants, and had no idea how much to rent the unit for. Lisa was excellent at holding our hands through the process of preparing the listing, coming up with a realistic rental price, showing the unit, letting us know what people thought of the unit, and ultimately finding us responsible tenants (and neighbors). Lisa was friendly and professional and worked quickly when we found tenants who needed to move in right away. She patiently answered all my tedious questions about the fine print on the standard rental agreement, and helped us develop a lease addendum specific to our building and needs. I recommend Lisa and Move Bay Area to anyone who needs to find or rent an apartment in San Francisco. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to relocate from Seattle, WA to San Francisco, CA due to a new job and just general interest of living somewhere new! Initially, our plan was to find an apartment on our own. But after a trip down and viewing a few "top notch" places, it became abundantly clear we were going to need assistance from someone who was well versed in the SF rental market. Prior to signing with MoveBayArea, we met with a few relocation companies. We ended up choosing MoveBayArea due to our initial phone call with Lisa. Their services are far superior to other relocation services in the area and, being a woman-owned company, I felt that I could trust their judgement on some of the "soft" requirements we were looking for (such as safety). We worked with Lisa initially, but Monica was our relocation agent. The process is very straight forward - you have a few initial phone calls to discuss your requirements and to set expectations. This part we found especially helpful since we were moving from a corporate complex to an individually-owned landlord apartment. In Seattle, there are a lot of new complexes and almost all of them have full appliances and a washer/dryer. It was helpful to be able to discuss our requirements, budget and all other concerns months in advance to help us solidify our decision and feel confident about moving. After the onboarding calls, we worked with Monica to establish a tour day. Once you are about a week out from the tour date, your agent will source a list of apartments for you to review. Your agent will advise on things to "watch out for" with each listing and will handle all communication with landlords for questions/introductions. Monica was incredible throughout this process as my boyfriend and I can be painfully thorough and had a lot of questions! She reached out to all of the options to have our questions answered, introduce us in advance and schedule tours. We flew down for a weekend, toured quite a few places, and ended up signing a lease with our favorite apartment that had all of our requirements! While touring the apartments, Monica talked us through concerns, potential red flags, and how to get our applications in ASAP so we were considered for our favorite places! Monica was also very personable, honest and enjoyable to spend the weekend with! To get to the point, working with MoveBayArea, and Monica specifically, was worth every cent. If you are making a move to the Bay Area from another state it is extremely difficult to schedule tours, meet with landlords, and still have time to submit applications. On top of this, you have to spend hours searching to find quality places and that doesn't guarantee you are chosen to be their tenant. If you are considering using a relocation company and are not sure if it is for you, schedule an initial call with MoveBayArea and give them a chance to prove to you they are worth it! Big thanks to the entire MoveBayArea team from myself and my boyfriend for your services - we couldn't have done it without you! read more

I was connected to Nicole by my agent at Corcoran to help me rent out my SF condo. As a landlord renting it out (from out-of-town for the first time), I was looking for someone to seamlessly manage the entire process, which Nicole did wonderfully--and then more! She was great to work with; her proactive updates, responsiveness and attention to detail definitely made this process efficient and less stressful. Would highly recommend her! read more

Lisa and her team helped us find a two bedroom apartment in San Francisco in the $4000 range. We chose the One Day Homefinding tour. Megan met us early in the morning on a Saturday and drove us through the city from apartment to apartment in her (clean and nice) car. We saw nine apartments in various neighborhoods from a list that she had helped us prepare based on our criteria. It was incredibly valuable to have someone lead us who works in the area on a daily basis. She had very good instincts, comments, and suggestions as we looked at each apartment but did not impose on us or our opinions in the least bit. I feel like we accomplished in one (well prepared) day what would have taken us weeks to do. In the end after seeing the selection we had a very good idea of what the market was like for that price range and we got an excellent and I think lucky find in Russian Hill. Lisa and her team have also been very helpful since our move in with advice. I personally think working with Movebayarea is now the only way for us to look for apartments in SF. Move Bay Area is absolutely amazing! I moved from San Diego to San Francisco for work and only had a month to figure out where I was going to live. It was so stressful trying to set up viewings by myself without any knowledge about the neighborhoods. When I decided to get some help, Move Bay Area was one of the companies that popped up. The good reviews here are so true. Lisa and her team worked hard to line up viewings for my weekend visit and the process was so thorough. They take the time to become familiar with your situation and what you expect from your housing. It significantly reduced my stress, and looking back I cannot imagine doing it alone from so far away. With Move Bay Area's help, I was able to find a new apartment in one trip up to San Francisco! I absolutely love my new home and I so happy that I chose Move Bay Area to help me find it. I relied heavily and Lisa's knowledge of the neighborhoods and to get a picture of what my commute would be like. If you are moving from far away or just need help navigating the crazy San Francisco housing market, you definitely will want to utilize Move Bay Area's services. read more

With the help of Lisa @ Move Bay Area, our family of six, plus our two large dogs, moved across the country to the Bay Area. From the first time we spoke with Lisa on the phone to when we literally moved into our rental home, she was consistently there for us! She exuded professionalism, competency, clear communication, and warmth throughout our entire relocation process. In fact, she went above and beyond to help us navigate some move-in issues we initially experienced when we first arrived. Lisa's knowledge of the Bay Area housing market and the neighborhoods, coupled with her strong work ethic and genuine care (and naturally calming voice) were just what we needed when finding a rental home here. Thank you Lisa and Move Bay Area!! We would give you more than five stars, if it was possible! read more

My roommate and I were both from other states and kept getting ghosted from properties. We had been looking for almost 4 months and it was getting exhausting. MoveBayArea was so helpful and attentive to what we were asking for. In one weekend, Monica found a bunch of great places, took tours of the properties, and we ended up signing a lease. The whole process was so easy and it took so much stress away. Thank you so so much! read more

My sister relocated from London last week. Her company was paying for the relocation services and she needed someone to help her find a new home in San Francisco. I was tasked with finding the right rental agent and we chose to work with Lisa from Move Bay Area. Lisa is incredibly knowledgeable about SF rental market. Her initial intake was so thoughtful and well crafted. She asked questions and brought up points we didn't even consider. Lisa arranged an all day tour for us to see 14 potential listings. All listings were well within my sister's parameters in terms of quality and price. We felt like we were on House Hunters International, less the camera crew to follow us around. Lisa was refreshingly honest about all the properties we visited. She pointed out all pros and cons to help us make a good decision. We truly felt that Lisa was representing my sister's best interests. We selected a beautiful apartment in Pacific Heights with a private outdoor space. Lisa helped negotiate a reduction in rent and lower security deposit. Lisa's white-glove service was fantastic and I highly recommend her services. read more

Lisa at Move Bay Area is a life savor. She knows the ins and outs of the market, and has an amazing network of agents that she uses to sniff out the right place for each client. She took great care to interview me before hand to get a clear picture of what type of space would make me happy. This saved so much time, instead of viewing place after place that wouldn't be a good fit. Lisa is very responsive and works diligently for each client. I don't know how she makes time to do it all. She made moving in San Francisco a non-issue. read more

We contacted Lisa McCarrel when we first moved to the Bay Area because were not sure whether to buy or rent a home. She suggested a "rent or buy" tour to help us make the comparison. We were living in Hong Kong but my husband had a job offer in San Francisco. We had visited the US before but never lived here so we came on a 'reconnaissance' tour to see which area around SF would meet our needs. Our requirements were: good schools, easy daily commute into SF for work and a good neighbourhood. Lisa introduced us to the Lamorinda Area. She had arranged rental viewings and timed them perfectly. After spending 4-5 hours with Lisa, we really got a good sense of the Lamorinda Area, pricing and availability of suitable rentals on the market (comprising of 3 suburbs). And we knew which one of the three suburbs we wanted to live in. Lisa then introduced us to our favourite Real Estate Agent - Paddy Kehoe, who arranged for us to view homes for sale that same day so that we could compare our options. We discovered on the rent or buy tour that our best option was to buy. Paddy helped us through the whole process expertly. We moved into our new home 2 months after arriving in the US and love our home and the community here. Our kids are very happy in their schools and have made many many friends. Our neighbours are friendly and worldly, we have become great friends with many of them. My husband's commute to work is a breeze (most of the time!). Lisa's depth of knowledge of the real estate market and connecting us with Paddy helped us make the best choice for our family in a very short amount of time. Moving across continents with a family of four is no easy task, Lisa really made a significant contribution towards a smooth transition for us. We are grateful to have found her. read more

The rental agents at Move Bay Area made our housing search and leasing process exceedingly straightforward and stress-free. We are moving to the Bay Area from the east coast and had little awareness of the rental marked in the SF area beyond the horror stories we've heard from friends who made the move before us. Move Bay Area eliminated our anxiety by identifying our key housing priorities, sourcing potential listings, scheduling visits, and facilitating the lease-signing process. In the end, we found our perfect home in less than 12 hours of searching. This would not have been possible without the guidance provided by Lisa and Vivian! read more

Lisa was incredible. My fiancé and I moved to San Francisco from Chicago and Lisa made it seamless. We found a beautiful apartment that exceeded our expectations. Lisa then went above and beyond a year later during COVID and helped us renegotiate our rent, saving thousands of dollars. Thanks you so much for everything, Lisa. I highly recommend Move Bay Area. read more

The best decision we ever made was working with Lisa at Move Bay Area. It was worth every penny. She found us an incredible apartment that we would have missed if we didn't work with her. We are doing a relocation from Florida to San Francisco and Move Bay Area helped us tremendously. Lisa McCarrel was amazing to work with and has put together a team of top notch professionals. They were quick and attentive to all our questions and needs as we searched for our new home. Lisa placed us with relocation specialist Monica Stolte. Monica hit the ground running and was incredibly professional. Three days after employing Move Bay Area and completing our renters profile we were viewing our first apartments. Amazingly enough we found our new place with-in a week of hiring Move Bay Area. If you are looking for quality professional relocation help then look no further. Thank you Lisa and thank you to all the team members at Move Bay Area. read more

I can't say thank you enough to Lisa! The San Francisco rental market changes quickly and she was right on top of new listings and found us exactly what we wanted (and showed us a number of options). She asked all the right questions ahead of time and helped us narrow our search. Her familiarity with the neighborhoods and even specific buildings were invaluable, as was her knowledge of the SF market. We will definitely use Move Bay Area again in the future! read more

Lisa helped me greatly when I was trying to relocate in the Bay Area on my own. She found a nice bottom floor 1 bedroom in Pacifica. This was just 1 of the 20 great options that were provided for consideration. I have been living in the new place for a few weeks now and I have no real complaints. The landlord fixed a noisy fan in the bathroom, but that was about it. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is trying to avoid dealing with scams and hidden fees; Lisa is good at seeing through the deception in the Bay Area market. read more

My fiancé and I are in the midst of relocating from Chicago to San Francisco. Being across the country, it's nearly impossible to schedule apartment tours and find a place during one trip ahead of officially moving. We worked with Megan who was absolutely incredible every step of the way. She was very on top of it prior to our trip out to SF sending us listings to rate in order to book as many tours as possible for us during our weekend trip. She picked us up from our hotel the morning of, and drove us to the 10+ units to tour. She also oriented us to the various neighborhoods and gave honest feedback after each tour on whether the place was a good deal, overpriced, safe area, etc. We ended up staying a few extra days and seeing even more places & ultimately applied to 4 units. She stayed in touch with us well beyond our trip and helped advocate for us to the various landlords. I would absolutely recommend this service if you are relocating to the Bay Area. Thanks to Megan, we now have a place to call home in San Francisco! read more

Where to even begin?! Lisa is literally as good as it gets. She was thoughtful, thorough and comforting throughout a very overwhelming process. As an employer, it was a priority to find the right service to help our employees move to the Bay Area. Lisa was the perfect fit from the start. She helped our employees considered every option involved in an international move and made sure to bring to attention details that make the Bay Area tricky. It was nice being able to trust Lisa was taking care of our employees and we could simply pay the bill. Thank you Lisa for all your help and can't wait to work together again soon! read more

Lisa and her team are the best in the Bay! I was super impressed by their organization and communication. Coming from out-of-state, my roommates and I relied heavily on their services to find our new home. Lisa found some great places for us to tour and we ended up with an apartment that was on the market for less than 24 hours! Lisa was great to work with and really listened to our preferences and delivered! You can tell she truly cares about what she does. read more

Lisa's guidance was invaluable when my spouse and I made a major move to San Francisco. We knew very little about the rental market in the city other than what we read in the media. Lisa walked us through how we could work with her most constructively. That outline helped us figure out what was most important to us in selecting a new home. Once Lisa received our filters, she curated a group of properties for us to visit. Because our search took place during Covid, our on-site visits needed to be efficient. Lisa accompanied us, pointed out features we would have missed and helped us weigh pros and cons of properties we liked. Once we selected our number 1 choice, Lisa guided us through lease negotiations. Because we had been home owners for decades, the details of a lease were not familiar to us. Every step of the way from not knowing how to begin our search to signing a lease for a unit where we have been very happy, Lisa guided us. She and her team made themselves available on our schedule which meant we were never left wondering what to do next. We recommend Move Bay Area without reservation. read more

Lisa's one day home finding service was impeccable. She helped me execute a challenging move during covid from Montreal to SF. It started with detailed pre-move preparation. Her and her team sent me a variety of great listings to rank and provide feedback on the week before, and we continued to refine this list the week of the move to generate a final itinerary. This process helped Lisa and the team learn my preferences, and Lisa was able to tweak the itinerary to add new properties that I might like right up until the day. One of those new properties I wound up loving, and I signed a lease and moved in the day following the viewing. I also felt that Lisa was advocating on my behalf, and asked the questions that I didn't know to ask. For example, she would listen for any construction or neighbor noise during the showings, and would inquire about that with the agent to make sure we understood the value of the place. The value and peace of mind that I got from the service was stellar! I highly recommend without any reservations! read more

Lisa was indispensable when we relocated to SF from New York. She really listened to what we were looking for in a home and a neighborhood, had so much knowledge of the area and the market, and helped us find the perfect place. She had us prepare everything in advance to make the application process as smooth as possible, arranged all of our tours and acted as a great advocate for us throughout the entire process. No matter how experienced you are as a buyer or renter, she definitely has knowledge that will help you and you will be SO GLAD you hired her. read more

Lisa was a great resource for me as I relocated from the East coast. She was responsive and flexible, going above and beyond to show us places virtually as covid made it seem less ideal to actually travel to SF to scope out places. She got a great sense of what we were looking for and was honest with us about what was realistic, and where we could probably get a better deal. read more

Unfortunately we made the mistake of hiring Lisa as our relocation advisor. We asked her to find our family a place that is quiet where other families with children also live and at a walking distance to a park/playground for our 2 years old. The apartment building she has found is filled with young people partying all night and we wake up at night despite wearing earplugs. Even our 2 years old is now wearing earplugs every night. No families/other children/playground/park are nearby and our 2 years old is bored and upset every day. The apartment building is so old that when the upstairs neighbor is walking (during the night), the whole house starts to shake which wakes us up. Homeless is occasionally to be found at our doorstep and people come and dig our garbage bins. Cars park in front of our door and play loud music. We hate the place Lisa has found us and I cannot believe she advertises herself as a relocation consultant. On her website she also claims that she gets listings not on Craigslist/Zillow yet, but all the properties she has shown us were on those sites. In total she has shown us 5 properties (which we didn't like on paper, but she said otherwise we would have no tour and would have to pay her services anyway). None of them met the criteria we have sent to Lisa. For example, we asked for a co-op pre-school nearby. The nearest one was 30 minutes walk away. We asked one near BART and a supermarket, but the property she has shown us was 20 minutes walking distance to both BART and a supermarket. My tip: either get another consultant or just get an Airbnb for a month or two and search your own place. We believed her and arranged a temp property for 10 days and had to accept what she offered us. She is also unaware of many things in Bay Area. For example I asked her about BikeLink, bike parking services near BART. She has never heard of it as she drives in her electric Audi all day long. She also told us Berkeley/Oakland is not safe to live. Later we have met many people who are living in good neighborhoods of those towns since years without issues. We will soon break our lease to move elsewhere. Considering Lisa's $1600 fee, we will throw away a good $5000 away. Just get someone else or find a place on your own. She adds more stress to the already stressful relocation process. read more

Stop looking for a rental agent. Use Lisa Move Bay Area for your relocation needs. We are moving down to the San Francisco Peninsula / South Bay area from Seattle. We needed to find a rental in 2 days. I did a ton of research and spoke to many relocation rental agents prior to going down. I went with Lisa because of her reasonable rates and her non-pushy communication style. And honestly, I just got a good vibe from our conversation over the phone. Many of the relocation agents are fast-talking, intense, slightly smarmy types. Lisa is genuine, honest and great at what she does. She works with you as a team. She is flexible, communicative and knows the San Francisco Bay area. We ended up using her more as a "coach" to assist us in making our final decisions. And what I appreciate was her willingness to personalize her services to meet our needs. She accompanied us on rental viewings on a last minute request, helped us write our application "resumes", visited a home in our absence and sent video, reviewed the lease and most importantly held our hand and provided advice. Everyone one of our applications were accepted, even a rental that said NO PETS, accepted us and our cat. Using Move Bay Area relocation rental agent services is a safe choice. Don't bother looking for other agencies. If you find Lisa, stick with Lisa and look no further. You will be glad you did. I highly recommend her services and that says a lot because I am a perfectionist about these things. Happy house hunting and don't worry, Lisa will find you a house. read more

Lisa and Susan were extremely helpful and professional while they worked with me. Lisa introduced me to Susan and made the entire process of working with Move Bay Area crystal clear. Lisa made finding a place to rent simple and quick! I would (and have) heartily recommend her to anyone looking for a new apartment.

Lisa is just wonderful, amazing, outstanding! We are from Italy, moved to Vancouver and after one year we moved to Bay Area. We had only 4 days to find and rent an house, near my husband job, and in a good school district for my 2 kids. Because we moved from Canada we had no credit history and renting could be really hard. Lisa showed us a lot of solutions, all suited to MY request, and in 2 days we found the right house, in a nice neighborhood with the perfect school district. To enroll the kids in school we needed billings and other amenities that Lisa helped us to finalize the same day we rent the house. No one could believe it! She helped us with the SSN, driving license and other stressful things you need to settle when you are moving. But this is not over with the renting. Lisa gave us a lot a useful information, tips and trick for living in the Bay Area. She is really super helpful, efficient, dynamic! Last but least before choosing Lisa we get in touch with other relocation companies but Move Bay Area was the only one that showed us real professionalism, knowledge of the area and care about (all and much more) our requirements. read more

I have twice had the pleasure of working with Lisa to find apartments in San Francisco. My first move was from Canada and she helped me navigate the new city, set up my SSN, get my drivers license, and find a lovely apartment that was perfectly suited to my needs. The second time was more recently and was a move within SF to a bigger place and again she worked hard to get my partner and I into a new place we love. She is hugely positive and turns a potentially stressful experience into a fun adventure. She is fantastic at what she does and I would highly recommend her to anyone moving to the Bay Area. read more
