Once the Cinderella of Dublin's Georgian core, Mountjoy Square holds the distinction of being the only one whose name is not a misnomer; this square is actually a square, unlike the plethora of parallelograms which erroneously bear the name (I won't even mention the triangular Brighton Square. Ooops, just did. It won't happen again, honest).
The neglect and wanton destruction suffered by the buildings on this square up until the late 80s made the park rather unwelcoming, as well as making the area popular as a ready-made set for film-makers seeking to recreate 1945 Berlin.
