I love this dentistry so much. I recently switched to them maybe a year ago and they are so sweet and VERY efficient. I'm always seen right away have never even sat in waiting room. The hygienist is so quick and sweet and they have a huge tv to watch. The doctor is very nice and not pushy at all. He dealt w a nightmare situation w me where I lost my last tray of my Invisalign and he called/figured it out and was able to have his front office arrange to get me new trays. My first visit for a cleaning was terrible (worst cleaning ever), but I didn't complain because I felt bad at first..( I don't usually leave negative reviews) Recently, I called to cancel my upcoming appointment and request my X-rays, which they said would take a few days. A week later, I received another confirmation text and still no X-rays. When I called back, the same rude receptionist answered, wouldn't let me speak, and accused me of lying about the confirmation text, demanding proof... My complain isn't about the X-rays not being delivered, it's how the receptionist didn't even let me speak. She would cut me off and got very defensive. Have visited the office 2 times and i am very well impressed with the work done here at the office. First visit i was due for a regular cleaning had no issues setting up an appointment fast and easy. Front desk seems very well organized. Went in for my cleaning and it was straight to the chase no waiting around or anything. Cristina the hygienist was very friendly and made sure i was comfortable and ready for the cleaning. Everything went smooth no pain at all or any complaints. My second appointment i was due for my upper wisdom tooth extractions, and again very quick and easy to arrange the appointment. Went in again and got to business right away Dr.Gershfeld and Valerie the assistant got me relaxed and ready to go i was a little nervous at the time but throughout the whole surgery the most i got to feel was just little pressure on the tooths being pulled out. i have a lot of trauma with dentists. my past experiences have made me terrified to really get anything done. a few days ago i had to get crowned and a cavity removed and let me tell you, i didn't feel a single thing. absolutely no discomfort. Dr. Gershfeld, Carla, and Carrick are PHENOMENAL!!!! I came in for a cleaning and then ended up with my DREAM smile. Their team is impeccable and made my smile happen in miracle time. I wanted my teeth perfect for a huge event in the Philippines, and they exceeded my expectations with my results. I don't even know where to begin. I have been seeing him for almost 10 years, and even though his office is 45 minutes away from my home, I continue to see him as he's the best in Los Angeles and Calabasas. I love this dentist and office. Been coming here for years. When I had different insurance I had to cheat on him and go somewhere else, but since I changed insurance again I was able to come back to my best guy. Dr. Gershfeld is very personable and warm and humorous, making the visit even enjoyable. Best of all he is gentle and very skilled. He even did a crown prep for me without novacain (my choice) and I barely felt it. Since he convinced me on another crown to use anesthetic for the 1st time in 28 years (I hate the injections) I found him to be super skilled with the door too, much to my surprise and relief. The doctor is amazing, but Lyn at his office is horrible. I really think she hates her job. If you ask her any questions about a statement or billing she is rude, condescending and deliberately tries to be as unhelpful as possible. I love the doctor and it's a shame to have to abandon an amazing practitioner because of his poor choice in office staff, but go somewhere else if you don't want to get made to feel like a cretinous deadbeat every time you ask a billing question. read more

I came to Dr Gershfeld for a cleaning and had a fine experience. The staff was friendly enough and the office was decent, although all of the other dentists I had been to previously have had cleaner and more polished environments. I was willing to look past that though, as long as I was happy with the care given. It had been less than a year since my last cleaning at a different dentist in the Bay Area, and I was told at my last appointment that I had no cavities that needed to be filled. I've only had a few cavities in my life, maybe 4 total, so I was surprised when Dr. Gershwin told me I needed to get 3-4 cavities filled. I asked if these were maybe just the beginnings of cavities starting to form, and could be maintained with careful preventive care, which is what most other dentists have recommended to me in past experiences. He said definitely not, and that they would only get worse and I should come back to get fillings immediately. I checked out and received a quote for an $800 co-pay for the fillings and a mouthguard, to help prevent from grinding. I was not able to pay that amount out of pocket at that time, so put off making the appointment for a few months. When I made the appointment a couple weeks ago, they recommended I split it up into two appointments because I needed a lot of fillings and it was going to take 2 1/2 hours to do all of the work. I was skeptical that it was possible I needed this much work done after being told less than a year ago that I had no cavities by a different dentist who I trust, so I decided to cancel the appointment and get a second opinion. I saw another dentist today and she told me I have no cavities. She looked at X-rays done at Dr. Gershfeld's office and decided to take new ones to be absolutely certain. She said my teeth looked great and that I could maintain the two stained areas she saw with a prescription toothpaste and they would keep a close watch on those areas at my next appointment in 6 months. She said drilling would just weaken my teeth and should be an absolute last resort. She also said they would call and talk to my insurance about covering the cost of the mouthguard. I walked away with no out of pocket costs, and healthy un-drilled teeth. I feel like a dodged a bullet and am horrified to think that I was going to endure a handful of unnecessary fillings. I feel much safer in the hands of a more conservative dentist that prioritizes preventive care and education over taking action that will just weaken my teeth and drain my bank account. read more

I didn't even make it far enough to get to his highly praised needle stab. They charged me up the arse. Lady said X-ray would cost $45 per side. How that equated to $95 is beyond me, but I let it go. I came from the dentist a month ago with a clean bill of hea...err, teeth. So how this wiseguy can say that I have NINE cavities is again beyond me. He even tried to point at shadows in my X-ray to show where the cavities were located, I saw nothing there. I had to just take it in stride and allow him to run his mouth. When I was a sprite I chipped my front tooth playing on a swing set (yeah I know). I had it PERMANENTLY repaired. Sure enough he said it had to get replaced- Sure buddy I don't buy it, never has another dentist mentioned it as a minor problem. He listed so many things wrong with my mouth I began to wonder if my toothbrush was really a twix bar and my toothpaste was actually Mac sauce. Unfortunately now I can't be sure if what he says was all greedy bs; now I'm forced to visit a dentist friend hundreds of miles away for confirmation. Ok first off let me just say that I have not experienced going to the location or meeting the staff, but wanted to write a price review just so people get an idea of my experience. I cracked a back tooth and currently without dental, so I called and stated I found them on Yelp and wanted to see what it would cost to have it looked at. I told Anna I was uninsured and she put me on hold, then came back and said it would be $150 for xray and exam. I was shocked at such a high price, but Anna stated that's their fee. I figured, ok, that must be an average for up here, because these guys have reviews with other uninsured patients. I booked the appointment and swallowed that it was going to cost me, just to have it looked at. After sitting thinking how this price was bothering me, I decided to call one more Dentist with similar Yelp ratings closer to home, just to see what they quoted me. $80 dollars, yes that's right $80 dollars. I asked the receptionist if that includes the xray and she said yes of course and yes they take uninsured. So there you have it, I saved $65 dollars and I can walk to Dentist. As long as the visit goes well, I will be checking back with an updated Review of the new Dentist and my experience. Hope this helped someone else in the same or similar situation. read more

Usually when you see Yelp reviews with such extremes of 5 stars and 1 stars, it seems like the 1 stars are just picky customers who can't be pleased by anyone. That is not the case here... Dr. Gershfeld was very nice and I found the staff to be nice as well. The Dr does smoke cigarettes which is pretty gross when that person has his fingers in your mouth and it's so nasty you almost taste it. Ew. But that wasn't my main problem here. I was referred by a friend who only recently started going here. I went for the standard X-ray and cleaning. They found a cavity...no biggie but didn't have time to fill it same day. Ok not a problem, so I made a follow up appointment. I went in for the cavity fill and also had a chip tooth so Dr said confidently that he can fill the cavity and chipped tooth. I was charged for 2 cavity fills. The next day I was traveling and had the same cavity pain in the cavity tooth so I chewed out of one side of my mouth the whole time. The fill in for the chipped tooth was gone this same day as well. I came back for another appointment for Dr to fix it and before he even looked at it, he arrogantly said the cavity tooth for sure needed to be filed down as that had to be the problem. That's what he did...he also said he would file the chipped front tooth where the filler was and that would be that. Apparently if there is a problem, just file away! After leaving the dentist, I got a sandwich and experienced the exact same pain in the cavity tooth. I also noticed later that the tooth he filed was not even with the other tooth next to it (I'm talking 2 front top teeth). It was just slightly off, but still off. It bothers me more by the day! I have had 3 appointments, wasted bi yearly X-ray thru my insurance, down $150, down 3 hours of time, and I'm worse off than when I walked in the first time. Also my friend who referred me had to go in 4 times for him to fix 1 cavity. If this guy can't fix a simple cavity, I couldn't imagine what a disaster it would be if there was a serious dental problem at hand. No thanks...I'm out! read more

This office is DISHONEST and does BAD business! I am a generally happy person and the last 2 months of weekly visits to try to fix the same problem has been a nightmare. I was bullied by the office manager and spent almost 3 grand on something that really may not even be fixed. I feel so beaten down by this office and my experience. I also got an ear and throat infection as part of a reaction from root canal (re-treatment) and Dr. Gershfeld actually blamed it on me and my oral hygiene. So watch out guys if you don't floss around your temporary... Your whole face may get infected. I run my own business and respect other business owners. I DO NOT take writing a bad review lightly. However this office and the people who are serviced need to be made aware. This was not ok and now I'm left with a half done root canal that he refuses to finish among other very questionable work that was done. I had a great experience with Dr. Gershfeld. I had two cavities filled which I had "let go" so they became quite deep. Everyone in the office was very personable and helpful. The office is very clean which is always nice to see. Most importantly, Dr. Gershfeld did a wonderful job. I was a little worried as he doesn't use topical anesthesia. Despite that face, I was pleasantly surprised to find I couldn't feel the needle at all. The drilling and filling went very smoothly. I was warned that the tooth may be sensitive for a few weeks but didn't experience that at all. I am very happy with the work I had done. I showed up for my first appointment to the front desk telling me they didn't have an appointment for me. Telling me that since I didn't call back they hadn't confirm.. however I had called back first leaving a message and then again to give them my insurance information. I then proceeded to wait almost an hour before the dentist even came to see me. The hygienist still wasn't available so it would be another hour before I left. I've recently just finished up a deep cleaning on Friday. I am so happy with the results. My gums are pinker and my teeth whiter. I can say I'm no longer a 32 year old that's afraid of the dentist (crying like a toddler.) I'm smiling a lot wider and proud of overcoming something that was holding me back! In regards to some other complaints regarding pricing- I'm not out there doing dental work price comparisons so I don't know how they stack up in regards to what they charge. There are some things I am willing to cheap out on but teeth, eyes, and other body parts- NO! My fees have always been told to me up front and were never different at the end. From the receptionist to the hygienist to the assistant to Dr. Gershfeld, everyone who took care of me was incredibly kind, friendly, and helpful. They are on top of it. I had a root canal and wisdom tooth extraction. Everyone involved kept me constantly informed of what they were doing and what the next step was. Things that normally are painful weren't. Their level of care was impressive. And the whole thing was done in very little time. They also have Direct TV on the chair, so you can surf through 300 channels as your molars are cleaned. I never waited for longer than 3 min for anything. And the cost was very reasonable. A business like this one deserves your business. read more

Great dentist. Initially, I went to see Dr. Schechter for a rough tooth that I needed to be fixed from a surfing accident. Upon seeing my teeth, Dr. Schecter warned me about other indentations in my teeth that had warn away over the years. I didn't realize these were bad because my other dentist said not to worry about them and that they were normal. However, Dr. Schecter told me that if I let these teeth wear away more, I would have to get dental caps which would cost alot of money. Instead, he used a strong sealant to fill in the indentations. After that, he uses his artist-like handwork to shape the new tooth to fit your bite. In the end, there was no pain and he saved my teeth from further destruction. I would recommend seeing him for an estimate before settling on a dentist. read more

After trying several dentists in Hollywood, I've finally found the one who I will return to, and highly recommend to my friends. His front office staff is especially friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. First, I went in for a routine cleaning, which was fast, efficient and thorough. Dr. Gershfeld and his staff didn't try to sell me products or services I didn't want or need. I actually felt good about my personal dental care regimen and the results. The x-rays revealed issues with two ancient fillings which needed replacement. I was aware of the problems before, but had deferred getting the work done, because I didn't quite trust my previous dentist. Dr. Gershfeld clearly explained his recommended treatment, and at an after-insurance cost of only $115, versus $680 from the previous dentist. When I returned for the additional work, I was in and out quickly; Dr. Gershfeld explained the procedure thoroughly, and it was entirely painless. His personable and friendly manner helped me relax, which is usually difficult for me in a dentist chair with needles and drills lurking!
