Beautiful! My husband an I visited this very serene buddhist temple this past weekend and we enjoyed our experience , we were pretty bummed about the Gong being locked up to were it was unable to be used

Quote; "Even if things don't unfold the way you expected, don't be disheartened or give up. One who continues to advance will win in the end." - Daisaku Ikeda Talk about BFE, yes this is the epitome of BFE. (You may google the meaning of BFE if you are sheltered from life's less than savory expressions) This place was hard to find. There was no phone signal so we were dependent on our wits, instincts and or some kind soul if there were any available on sight or site to guide us. It was not impossible and we persevered. The pictures I took had GPS coordinates so it looks like the GPS locating does work at least on my phone. Use a print out map or save it to your phone. I posted a map below for your perusal and navigation to the last leg of this meaningful sojourn. Now that the minute details are out of the way, I urge you to visit this place. It is beautiful, very well crafted and suitably sited on a very peaceful valley. Looks like an authentic expression of Korean architecture. If you can't go to Korea, Korea has come to you. Just experience it for yourself, there is no substitute. The entrance fee was nil but you may make a donation on behalf of your Karma. It is more blessed to give than to receive. Om Svasti.

Welcome to a beautiful monastery, and the lovely Korean peace Bell. Now I must say that if you like this sort of thing you'll be very happy. If you don't like this sort of thing or are unsure or will have only a passing interest, this one maybe a little too far out in the sticks for you. First you get off the road, Highway 58, go up the road toward the town of monolith, then turn onto a dirt road which is only medium condition, then into a dirt road that is well poor condition, then onto a road which is bad, but still passable, if you're a city person and dirt roads are not your kind of thing well this could be tough. I also would not recommend this in a regular car during any rainy season or during the winter. We did it in our Prius . Are are several dry stream Crossings if there was water could be difficult I would call this a seasonal stop. As my wife and I have lots of experience on dirt roads and were quite happy to slowly work our way up to get to the monastery. We find this kind of territory quite beautiful, however opinions vary. But let us remember this is not about the road this is about the monastery. These people have a piece of land that backs up to beautiful Cliffs and mountains, and is a very peaceful place. Now this says a lot about where you should put a monastery. Although we were a little late on a Sunday and everybody was busy praying or sleeping or who knows what, we were quite pleased to walk the grounds which are very sparse, or as we would put it natural. A big Bell which is the star of the show this is a Korean peace Bell about 8 foot tall, with such a wonderful tone. Guests are encouraged to ring the bell using the log that is hanging from the ceiling. And I must say the ceiling is very decoratively painted. The Bell Has It Fabulous tone and it just continues on and on and on spreading that peace around the world. The painting and detail is amazing. The main prayer room in the next building is a very Spartan room, with a small altar, and lots of space to put your cushion and pray or meditate. There are a couple of dogs, who are the greeters they bark and tell that someone has come, but that's all there just very happy and peaceful to be there as well. We both agreed that we enjoyed this stop, but I must say we tried to stop at every Monastery we can find and see who we can meet, and see the vibe of each and every place. We enjoyed the stop a lot. With anet of course

The Bell of Peace. Feel free to ring it gently, once per person.

A must see if you are in the area. Great for Korean or Mahayana Buddhists looking for a spiritual retreat. Even if you're not, the monks will be happy to answer questions and guide you through the various buildings (providing that there is enough time), so the cultural experience alone is worth it. However, I have refrained from the full five stars because the main temple complex is only accessible by dirt roads that can get washed out at several points due to flash floods.

Hidden gem; honestly, breathtaking. Please read signage first before enjoying. Plenty of free parking. The temple is open to the public.
