We never did end up using the jacuzzi (not because it was old and ugly) but because the inn has a hot tub. The room is pretty out of date. I mean I love pink walls as much as the next guy... OK I don't love pink walls... but I do love pink walls with a green/blue vanity in the bathroom. Now that just brings back the childhood memories of my grandma's house in the 80's. But my grandma has updated her house since then. And there were too many bugs in the room... I think we ended up killing 2 spiders and a few sow bugs. Like I said, nothing special but no serious problems.

The siding…read morelooks new, though there are a couple of missing patches, the wood on the newly built deck is unfinished. But once we stepped inside, we felt like we'd stumbled into a find. Our unit was very spacious and clean and looked recently painted and refloored. Furniture and appliances were in good condition, and the kitchen gear was clean--a relief since at some rental cabins we've stayed at the pots and pans are heavily scratched or have food remains scorched on so badly you'd need a jackhammer to get them off. We usually bring some of our own when we drive to our destination, but we flew this time so that wasn't an option. The bed was comfortable, though noisy neighbors kept us up on a couple of nights, I think this originally was a single family home that got divided into two rental units, and the wall between may be a little thin. The bathroom was clean and the shower comes with a full tub. DHA is located on a residential street up the hill from the harbour, so no sea view, but you have a nice mountain vista out the kitchen window. Also less traffic noise than you'd get down in the main tourist district. Unless you're dead set on sleeping next to the waves, this is a perfect base for adventures around Rocky Harbour.

Not a lot of ambiance, a distinct "smell" in the room, an elevator that you have to manually operate, and actual physical keys to access the rooms. Pretty cool actually. Ultimately though the rooms left a lot to be promised. The TVs were barely functioning. There were plugs that weren't working. The beds, while comfortable, creeked quite a bit in terms of noise. Overall given the location and pricing of the hotel it's passable. It's not a "oh my god I must come back here", but a good hotel if all you wanna do is sleep.

We were able to obtain a sitting at 8:30 pm. From the very beginning the meal was WOW! Wine and beer with a beet and goat cheese salad and lobster bisque that we shared. Homemade crackers with goat cheese and partridge berries was also a beginning. All delicious, just enough leaving you wanting more. We split a gnocchi and lobster dish that was...well what gnocchi is supposed to be, soft pillowy bundles of goodness! Main courses of roast pork tenderloin and a homemade pasta with black olives...mmm good. Finished off with a piece of partridge berry cheesecake and coffee. I honestly believe that this restaurant would compete with any high end restaurant in any major city in the world. Excellent service, presentation was interesting, great time in Newfoundland. Just wish it was closer to Los Angeles! If you are in Newfoundland and near Gros Morne...head to this restaurant for a memorable dining experience.

A beautiful property with incredible views and fantastic hospitality, though our stay had a bit of…read morea rough start due to an unexpected blackout. The best part of this inn is easily the scenery and the staff. The panoramic views from the hotel rooms and the dining area are absolutely incredible, looking right out over the water. The warmth and hospitality of the hotel staff are a huge reason why this place still gets a very good rating from us. However, on the day we checked in, the entire local area hit a major power outage. Because the hotel does not have a backup generator, we had no electricity, no AC, and had to navigate around with a flashlight. After a long, exhausting day of hiking, the lack of power definitely soured our initial experience. For practical visitor info, guest parking is conveniently located on the backside of the hotel, and a nice breakfast is included with your stay. They also have laundry facilities available for guests, though you will want to keep in mind that there are restricted hours of usage. Overall, it is a lovely base for exploring Gros Morne, but a backup generator would make it a flawless 5-star stay.

This is a typical KOA. The campground is well-kept, with a variety of sites. Some are in open grass…read moreor gravel, some more secluded in the woods or next to the lake, Spirity Pond. Average site width is 30 feet and level. The back-in sites are angled for easy access and the interior roadways are wide. Hookups are on the correct side. No low branches. Not all sites have fire pits, but they will provide a portable pit if you ask for one. The camp store is well stocked. We camped for 5 nights in site #85, which had 3 way hookups. The free wifi was strong, but #85 is pretty close to the office. Our site was on a corner, so it was about 40-50' wide. It was also near the dump station, although separated by a stand of trees. We stayed here mid-June, so the campground was only ever a third to half full. There are several seasonal RVs, but they aren't "junky". Most of the RVs in my pictures are seasonal. This is a quiet campground. I was worried because it's right on a road, and our site is close to it, but the sound of cars is minimal. My favourite thing about this campground is the songbirds. The birds, mostly robins, keep up a constant, cheerful song in the background. It really makes for a peaceful, relaxing stay. We took an easy-moderate hike around Spirity Pond. It is not an accessible trail. At a strolling pace, it took us about an hour. We did not see any wildlife on the trail, but there were fresh moose prints in the bog next to the path, so be alert! The campground is close to the Gros Morne visitor centre. The community of Rocky Harbour is about a 15 minute drive away. Rocky Harbour has a variety of small cafes and restaurants, a gas station, convenience stores, etc.
