Aside from some minor hiccups in scheduling, my experiences at Mount Sinai Hospital have been very positive. I will soon be undergoing brain surgery that will be performed by a wonderful neurosurgeon, Dr. Christopher Kellner. The surgery will be done as part of a clinical trial of the CereVasc eShunt system for treating normal pressure hydrocephalus. I have met Dr. Kellner twice and I'm impressed by his vast knowledge and reassured by his great kindness. All the other Mount Sinai personnel who have attended to me have likewise been cordially solicitous of my welfare. This includes, inter alia, the following people, whom I will identify only by their first name whenever their last name is unknown to me: Kevin Buttet, a Senior Clinical Research Coordinator who communicates directly with the CereVasc team that innovated the eShunt procedure; Amanda Syla, Dr. Kellner's administrative assistant, who patiently helped me to conjoin my NYU Langone medical records with my Mount Sinai medical records; Emily Nitzberg, Dr. Kellner's capable PA; astute doctors Barry J Segal and Joseph Yoon; certified registered nurse anesthetist Marvin, whose good humor lifted my spirits during a lengthy lumbar puncture; Gisel Rodriguez, a radiology technologist; and registered nurses Joanna, Alexis, Isabel, and Fiona. I am especially grateful to Fiona for her sustained care of me throughout the day of the lumbar puncture. read more

I've going to the Dr once a year here. since my favorite Dr quite job, they sent me to go there. Most of time, front desk employees are very friendly and non judgmental vibes. However, some rude workers Inc Drs are still exist. Workers don't treat customers properly they have an attitude and not using proper words. Dr, seems to be full of anger always rush to leave. I'm supposed to be treated at least 20min according to my knowledge. I'm not happy to come here at all. I'll going to change the Dr. I know Mt Sinai used to have great Drs. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! If 0 stars was an option, that would be more appropriate. After seeing a real cardiologist directly after my 72 hour ordeal where the staff at Mt. Sinai West refused to listen to my concerns, the issue they claimed that I have is not the issue at all and I am no longer on the medications their less than hospitable attending (he literally yelled at me when I questioned him) told me I would be on for 3 months. I ended up in the ER with appendicitis. I was in extreme pain and no one cared. I had to wait hours and hours for pain meds, and when they wore off I told my nurse, who then decided to clock out and not tell anyone. I was supposed to get an appendectomy the next day and they canceled it because I wasn't in enough distress. The next day, I woke up from surgery, and the next words I heard were, "So, let's get you checked out." No doctor came by after to explain anything. They do not care. There were some friendly people, but overall, there must be better hospitals. read more

The emergency department is professional, relatively fast and very nice and comfortable. My daughter went in for a serious ear infection and although it was a painful procedure the ENTs handled it with grace and kindness. They even played a bit of music to put her at ease. If I could give this madhouse of a hospital NO STARS I would. This is the third time I have had a horrible experience with the asylum. I would not have gone back however I live in the area and the ambulance claimed it had to bring me to the closer hospital bec of changes in their zone rules. The incident happened April 2, 2026 at approximately 10:05 am according to my records, so all Dr's, nurses, and staff I'm about to talk about without knowing their names worked that day. For starters, I'm in extreme agony and pain and am rolled into the ER to loud commotion. The 3 security girls, two women and a man were loudly cursing and talking about a personal conversation that in my opionion should not be in a vicinity of others to hear, especially a hospital. they were talking about some girls private areas and how stupid she looked and how they would quote on quote "F HER UP ON SITE" when they seen her. Keep in mind, im just brought in by an ambulance so i have to sit by triage and wait until they check me in therefore I'm front row seat to the vulgarity that i couldn't believe was going on. Like wha? Then one of the girls automatically search my bag WITHOUT telling me while I'm screaming in agony. Usually, unless the patient is unconscious, even if they can't respond back the security repeats out loud everything they're doing and taking but she did not. Come to find out she LOST my belongings because when i went to check out, they didn't have my property because she didn't ask my name to bag my things so they just disappeared. Anywho, the ambulance are telling these people in triage that I am a Type 1 diabetic whose sugar is at 388 and increasing by the minute and they still did nothin to check my blood. I am screaming in pain because i am in so much agony and lo and behold, the black Carribbean man who works in triage must be aggravated with my yelling and so he starts to say he doesn't have time for this, he's ready to clock out, all this screaming and hollering is working his nerves. My answer is sir, you work in a hospital where people come who are in pain so if you're aggravated, you should get a different profession!! Of course I didn't tell him this but I am saying it now because HOW DARE HE?! That is NOT the thing to say about a patient while the patient is literally laying beside you. They then trasferred me in the hallway and then into a room at the end of the hall where they left me, in pain, screaming and NO ONE came to care for me. After about 20 mins, a Russian or German speaking nurse came and asked me whats wrong. As best as I can mutter up a sentence, I'm like maam, I am type 1, in pain and feel as if my body is locking up on me. She then asks me what my sugar was and I looked at her as if she was crazy because HOW THE HELL DO I KNOW!!! You are supposed to take my sugar as the nurse and tell me what my sugar is. She then left, came back to take my sugar, never addressing the pain i'm in. I'm screaming that I am in pain and she's just ignoring me. SHe then took my sugar and it was now at 399 which is HIGH!!! normal rate for sugar is 90 to 180 and I was damn near at 400 and do you alll know this woman left me and never came back!!!! I literally had to call my friend who called 911 for the nurse to come back and also a DR at this point who both asked me AGAIN what was wrong. I'm looking at them like, DID SHE NOT TELL YOU MY SUGAR IS AT 399 and I AM A TYPE 1 DIABETIC?! Did she not tell you on a scale from 1 to 10 my pain level is at a 20?! By this time my friend had arrived 45 mins later and STILL NO ONE had given me anytype of Insulin or pain meds. Almost two hours after being admitted, they finally gave me Insulin and Morphine. While I was lying down because the meds were kicking in, I noticed a white man scrollin in with his girlfriend or whoever. He was looking around and physically able to walk himself to the guerny. Whatever he was in the hospital for, he wasn't screaming in agony nor was he in pain, but he was white so that meant IMMEDIATELY, 2 nurses ran over to him asking him what brought him in and attending to him so carefully and just taking good care of him. Keep in mind this is the same 2 nurses that watched me scream and holler in agony. Well, come to find out I was in full blown Ketoacidosis and a Cyst had ruptured on my overaies which explained my body feeling as if its breaking down and the extreme, intense, and acute pain I was in. I know they think black people lie about or can take pain but if i come into your hospital screaming and hollering in chronic pain, I'm not faking!!!!!!! Like how dare they leave me in DKA AND pain for almost 2 hours, but the white boy come scrolling through and they run to him as if he's a celebrity. Then NONE of the supposedly educated physicians knew ANYTHING about my diabetic pump, how to treat me since I was on the pump, or even knew how to work it. I had to call my trainer in diabetes to instruct the ENdocronologist read more

I had surgery at this hospital on March 19, and everything was going well until March 21, my second day of hospitalization. First, I want to say that every Mount Sinai doctor I've received care from has been amazing, and every single nurse here is a superstar -- caring, attentive, and dedicated. As many of you know, it's difficult to sleep in a hospital due to frequent vital checks and the general noise. While the rooms here are comfortable and relatively quiet, my experience on the second night took a turn. At 11:48 PM, a roommate was brought in, which was fine initially. However, two of their relatives arrived shortly after, and by nearly 2 AM, they were still there, talking with the lights on. I've never seen a hospital allow visits so late unless it's an ICU, and even then, visits are typically brief. Why is this being permitted? I was recovering from surgery, and getting proper rest was already challenging without this added disturbance. Frustrated, I requested to be discharged. The nurse called a doctor, a young woman by the name Alysa Hernandez. While she was not responsible for my care, my comments are solely about her demeanor, not her medical skills. She was incredibly rude and dismissive, essentially telling me to "go back and deal with it" or "put a towel over my face." She then threatened to wake my doctor to resolve the situation, making me feel trapped. I didn't want to return to a room where I couldn't rest, but I also didn't want to disturb my doctor unnecessarily. She continued pressing me for a decision, implying I was wasting her time. Thankfully, one of the nurses stepped in and offered to move me to a different room, which was the best solution. I'm extremely grateful for that nurse's kindness and professionalism. However, this incident left a bad impression. Additionally, two days before my surgery, I was informed that I needed to pay $6,270 upfront. Why wait until the last minute to discuss financials? Most people don't have that amount readily available. It felt as though my surgery would have been withheld if I hadn't made the payment. I couldn't help but notice that my surgery time wasn't confirmed until I paid in full. While I understand hospitals operate as businesses, it's disheartening when patients are treated like just another number. A little more transparency and compassion would go a long way. Update: I checked Dr. Alysa Hernandez's notes, and she lied about me trying to leave because I couldn't sleep due to bright lights. Why didn't she mention that there were two visitors talking and having a "hang out" in the room at almost 2 AM, which was the real reason I was trying to leave? After a string of administrative blunders and 6 months of dozens of follow-ups and conversations to resolve, I unfortunately have had to resort to a public review of Dr. Dickler, who provides great bedside manner and real empathy for his patients. However, he's being completely undercut by a health system that is shockingly ill-functioning. The errors of the staff included multiple instances of incorrect billing, even repeating mistakes after they were flagged with wrong insurance billed and staff collecting copays not required, being promised responses by supervisors that never came, incorrect surgery prep information (even being confirmed for an OBGYN pregnancy procedure despite being. cis male going in for colorectal surgery,) having to recover without pain meds because they failed to call them in correctly or resolve the issue when alerted, and being denied follow-up care options when that delayed my healing. I later had to have a repeat operation. read more

I have been here for two separate conditions and felt well taken care of both times. Clean and quick, special shoutout to the neurology team who genuinely seemed to care. They were very helpful and all the nurses were very kind. Had to wait a few hours for an MRI, but feeling safe in their care made it a less annoying experience. Mount Sinai OB/GYN failed me in every way. Despite scans showing a large, degenerating fibroid, I was never told the size or seriousness of it. Instead, I was pushed through painful, repeated biopsies while the real problem was ignored. A procedure I never consented to was billed to Medicaid, and parts of my chart were changed after I questioned it. I'm now being forced into a total hysterectomy -- something that could have been avoided if I had received honest, timely care. If you're a Black woman, low-income, or on Medicaid, please be cautious. I've filed formal complaints with multiple oversight agencies and have sent my case to the press. The hospital has accelerated my husband's decline from heart failure. There is very little attention to detail and no single doctor assigned to him. It' musical chairs without the fun. He was denied palliative care, violating a NYS law.. Many of the staff are kind and helpful and overworked. read more

I came in for a horrible allergic reaction. I was sent to a room quickly, which I appreciated but everything after that just went downhill. I was not listened to by my nurses at first. They were giving me whatever they thought would treat what was going on with me. I kept asking for what I knew would help calm down my symptoms and it wasn't until I had been in the room (shared by another human TWICE and the rooms are closet sized small) for 4 hours that I was given what I asked for. Again, rooms are closet size small, and I was told to move the things that gave me comfort to accommodate the other person, even though I had been in the room since 7 am, not the other patience and it's now 1 pm. I was not checked up on as frequently as I was told...I had to ask for food even though I had been in the same room since 7 am...I know this is covered by insurance and it is close to where I live so it was truly the only reason why I came here, convenience, but if you can go a little out of your way for an emergency care, I couldn't stress it more! Side note, doctors and nurses are very kind, when and IF you see them. read more

During the summer of 2024 I was receiving cancer treatments at another facility and my fiancée had to be admitted to Mt Siani West NYC because she could not attend my appointments with me partly due to a severe neurological condition. Mt Siani West went above and beyond in caring for her for over 6 weeks while I received the bulk of my treatments, the staff was remarkable, they were kind and accommodating, and recognized our unique situation, not only did they take her in when they did not have to, they solved a minimum of 50% of her health issues and set a plan for her that we follow to this day. In a time of uncertainty, when others told us we would fail, Mt Siani West came through, god bless them, maybe the people involved will read this, I cannot thank them enough for saving her life, literally. Went to the ER at this hospital yesterday. Staff was nice but they are clearly understaffed. After 5 hours no test results. Today, still no EKG results available and no one is picking up phone. Yes I can request records but that will take weeks. I need to have results now, that's why I was tested and what I paid for. Why are medical facilities allowed to bill high and provide so little in return? And this place is considered better than most in my area. The attention to detail for emergency services for my daughter was deplorable. There was no sense of continuity or collaboration between the practitioners. While my daughter racked up a large bill there was never a diagnosis made. I making this review to aid others in their choice of hospitals although when in an emergency situation you may not have much choice. BTW I have been a health practitioner for over 40 yrs . First off this hospital is beyond dirty, they put me in a room that had blood on the chair. That's a biohazard. I went to the restroom that they had in the room the bathroom was dirty foot prints on the floor and no tissue. They are horrible with communicating i've been here since 4:51am it's now 9:44am and a doctor didn't see me yet. I get being a busy hospital but communication is key and im here to be seen too!!!!! Zero stars is too many! They made an error and billed the wrong insurance. I've been trying to get it cleared up for 5 months without success. Now they're threatening to send me to collections for a bill that they sent to the wrong insurance carrier. Every time you call the Billing Department you get put on hold for 45 minutes or more, that is if they even pick up the line. When I did finally speak to a person, she told me that I had to fix the problem. How the "F" am I going to fix their billing system???? read more

I attended the MSW free heart health screening as part of the MS system's National Cholesterol Education Month. It was a complete colossal crap show fiasco. Scheduled from 11 AM- 2 PM, they tried to cut it off two patients before me at 12:55 PM. We stood in the lobby behind the reception desk. The event staged in the lobby, of all places. I felt like I was part of a zoo exhibit. They ran out of tee shirts and scarves. When one out of every four people at a community event is a staffer, this happens. These insiders clearly unfairly hogged the resources of a "community event." Let them freeload in the event's last hour next year. We were given our paperwork on line and had to complete it standing on the fly. I finally got seen, but the machine somehow ejected my blood sample with an error message. The staffer said that she would have to stick my finger again. I passed and left. As usual, if anything anywhere is offered for free, rush over in the first hour or do not go at all. I was told that many people left because the line was too long. After reading actual patient reviews, I am not at all surprised that this alleged community event was so epically mismanaged and created bad blood in the community. I guess that my blood was literally bad. Boo MSW. I hope you don't have to defend a wrongful death lawsuit or two to get management's attention. read more

I was in the ER Trauma unit with a severe head blow and brain bleed that required constant monitoring. I used to like Mt Sinai but this place is ridiculously unprofessional. The doc on staff never did tours and spent a lot of time chatting with coworkers. By the way, as the staff said, it was a very quiet night. read more

I wasn't sure if I should recount our entire birth experience here at Mount Sinai West. On the one hand, my wife's privacy is a potential concern. On the other, I think it's valuable information that you should benefit from. And I've decided that (1) you're very important to me and you deserve to have all the information, and (2) who cares about my wife's privacy? If you aren't interested in reading on for the particulars, I'm just going to say flat out: If we have another child, we're going to a different hospital. My wife and daughter are just fine, but overall the care we received here ranged from adequate to infuriatingly incompetent. We decided to give birth here because it's the hospital my wife's doctor is affiliated with. It's not particularly convenient to our home, but on the bright side, there's a lovely birthing center and they have progressively decided to provide nitrous oxide as part of their pain management plan during labor...except they are closing the birthing center in January 2019, and they just stopped providing nitrous oxide without explanation before we were scheduled to give birth. My wife had a fairly easy pregnancy, so when she was hit with severe pain at the top of her abdomen two days before her due date, we were worried and came into the hospital at about 5 am. Evidently the shift changes at 7 am and FOR SOME REASON, no one would even admit us until around 7:10 am. When we finally saw a doctor (hours later), we told them we were worried about preeclampsia (one possible reason for the pain at the top of her abdomen). But my wife was feeling better, her symptoms had subsided, and we were tired from spending the last five hours or so in hospital chairs, so when the resident decided it was just a case of heartburn, and to discharge us without taking bloodwork or anything else, we just rolled with it. For the next few nights, my wife continued to have this awful pain at the top of her abdomen, that no heartburn medication could touch. Eventually it became so unbearably awful that we came back in five nights later, at around 1 am. This time we were admitted quickly and the doctors, observing my wife in the midst of her pain, took some bloodwork. Her liver function was off the charts and her platelet counts were far too low, so they diagnosed her with HELLP syndrome, the rarer, more dangerous form of preeclampsia. Like most of the population, I had never heard of this. So I asked the two doctors how worried we should be. These are the two responses we received: 1. "It's the 3rd leading cause of death in pregnant women." 2. "We're really excited about this because it's rare and we never get to see it." While both of these statements may be factually true, neither one was particularly helpful at the time. The first was clearly something that this resident wearing a human suit read in a textbook at some point, and the second was something you discuss at the watercooler with your doctor buddies instead of in front of the patient whose life is in danger, you blundering and utterly self-absorbed clown. Tact. Bedside manner. Empathy. These are things that doctors (and PEOPLE) should have, and these doctors did not. I am going to run out of room, so to skip ahead: my wife needed a c-section. Delivering the baby is the only known treatment for HELLP, so the quicker that happened, the better. For various reasons that have nothing to do with my personal hygiene, I couldn't be in the room for the surgery so I had to spend the most nerve-wracking, horrible hour of my life in the waiting room, unsuccessfully trying not to freak out. Now, there are good things about this hospital. Like: The surgery went well. There are good, caring doctors around. There are wonderful nurses; shout out to Lisa (labor and delivery), Reem, and Barbara (postpartum). The lactation consultants are exceptional; they are caring, knowledgable, and never make you feel as though you are wasting their time. That said, in our experience the good things were outweighed by the bad things. I have limited space, so my major complaints: 1. It took over an hour for my wife to receive any sort of pain medication after her major surgery. When I found her in the recovery room, she could say nothing for 40 minutes except, "Pain." When the pain pump finally arrived, the two nurses did not know how to set it up. 2. The communication is terrible. With us, and between care providers. Why are you writing on pieces of paper instead of recording in the computers everywhere? Why do we need to tell each nurse and doctor that my wife can't take that drug because her liver function is abnormal, or this one because her platelets are low? With any large organization, your experience depends on who you deal with. Over five days, we dealt with dozens of people that landed along a very large spectrum of competence and empathy, none of whom seemed to communicate with one another. I had a very stressful and disjointed experience in the ER this summer. Having to walk through their metal detector/security when I was so dizzy I could barely walk was surreal, but then I thought, this is New York City. I quickly found out though that "this is New York city" was used to qualify many things that were substandard- like a timeline for urgent labs or even regular vital signs. Much distress that I felt, and saw other patients experiencing, could have been headed off with just a little bit of communication, but instead it felt like patients were being tuned out, in a way that felt dehumanizing . Somebody kept shouting "help" and was ignored- when it would have been just as easy to say "I'll be there as soon as I can". Might have improved his outcome too- undue distress worsen outcomes. I will add that I had a nurse who tried very hard to provide compassionate care, but seemed to be fighting an uphill battle. I'm a nurse of 26 years, and experiences like this makes me remember how important compassion and communication is. read more

Horrible hospital. This place is dirty. No sense of urgency. The nursing staff is rude and incompetent. They have horrible attitudes. God forbid your loved one is having a surgery that last past 9pm, they will kick you out the waiting room and place you in the hallway. Me and 3 other families had to be escorted out the waiting room. They stop giving you updates so you are pretty much in limbo trying to figure out what's happening. Luckily, there is glass panels surrounding the closed waiting room where you can see the surgery monitor. If it wasn't for that we would not know a thing. read more

This review is for Mt. Sinai's Outpatient Surgery Center only, I cannot speak for the rest of the hospital or emergency services. I had an excellent experience today while getting laparoscopic surgery. The staff was so helpful and friendly while I was noticeably nervous for surgery. They explained everything that would happen to me with anesthesia and the procedure itself and did everything they could to make me comfortable both pre- and post-op. I even cried because I was nervous walking back to the OR and they were so nice and comforting! My surgery was pushed back an hour because an emergency surgery took precedent over mine and needed my operating room, but the wait was minimal and the staff made me as comfortable as possible while I waited. I was scheduled incredibly early so it was not as busy which was nice. The hospital facilities were comfortable and the staff were reliable and quick when I needed something and called for them. These nurses truly are great and I wish them the best as they navigate their union negotiations because they deserve a lot. Thank you!! read more

The care and staff was great, but the hospital was very very unclean. I've seen cleaner bathrooms in bus stations in developing nations. Paint on the wall is peeling and the floors are covered in dirt. Most of the equipment is rusted/very old and the chairs are clearly ripping and falling apart. read more

This is a review of the 12th floor obstetrics. My wife just had a baby on this floor this past Monday, and we couldn't have been happier with the service and care we received from the hospital staff, from the obgyn to all the nurses who assisted us. I will not get into details, as they are personal. However, I can tell you that you'll be in good hands, should you decide to deliver your baby here. We received exceptional care, both during labor and delivery, immediately afterwards for what concerns our birth plan, and during the following 2 1/2 days at the hospital. Our questions were promptly answered, our concerns heartily reassured and our high maintenance attitude (we all have some) gracefully dealt with. The reason I can't give this floor the 5 stars it deserves is the food. I know the staff here has nothing to do with it, and they still get our full praise. However, something must be done about the quality and quantity of the meals, here. We were rarely brought enough food to eat (believe it or not), and it rarely tasted above average. In a hospital that charges people's insurances significant amounts of money, you'd expect better. We were not there to experience gourmet cuisine; we knew we couldn't expect much inside a hospital facility. Nevertheless, we were totally unprepared for the inadequate portion sizes and below average dishes we were served. It was quite laughable to experience, and soon became the joke between my wife and her roommate. It's a pity that nothing is being done to fix this. I'm not sure what's the problem... being the budget, the cooking staff or the head chef him/herself. I just hope they will decide to put more effort in giving their patients the type of food that won't remain in their minds as the lowlight of their hospital stay. read more

Racist and inappropriate. I came into the hospital because my son was having issues breathing and going in and out of consciousness..the male intake evening nurse on weekend wanted me to calm down although all I said was can someone check his breathing to make sure he is breathing. He was annoyed at me for my facial expression and mannerism displaying concern with my son ( he must of because I was only talking when prompted so not sure how I could calm down if being silent) yelling saying I know what is and isn't an emergency. They were slow to move to see if he was breathing and trying to argue with me for being worried for my son's life. The nurse who assisted me while waiting for the doctor was rolling her eyes non stop when I responded to her asking what brings him in today ...when I tried to tell her she rolled her eyes and walked away and also seemed annoyed. Are they acting like this because I am black? They need sensitivity training my son have never been to ER or had this kind of allergic reaction that was life threatening. I apologized to them if I seem upset because my son's life was in their hands but the man was arrogant I did nothing wrong for all my focus being on if my son is ok. I will avoid this hospital if I can in the future because the experience was very bad. read more

ACTIVELY BEING STARVED RIGHT NOW ON 9B. I am a pancreatic patient who is admitted 10 days ago for an inability to keep down food and the resulting SEVERE PROTEIN DEFICIENCY. I have lost 10 lb during the stay, which I can ill afford. Right now, I have two sets of doctor teams, a nurse, and the nutritionist all trying to get me back on robust feeding regimen. However, none of them have "the power" to move me off NPO. This is a system problem and it''s very severe. It's endangering my life RiGHT NOW and the best thing I can think to do is Yelp and Tweet about it. If you don't want similar treatment, don't come here. Well, unless you're an ambulance chaser. I'm sure a lawyer could make great money from things I've seen here. (Note: staff is fantastic and tries hard but there's only so much they can do, you know?) read more

I am a nurse. The hospital did not triage at all. They didn't ask symptoms. Didn't take temperatures. Didn't take BP. Nothing. I asked why they failed to do the necessities and was screamed at by the head nurse who was on twitter. Not only did we, but other patients left. I came back to the ER here recently in what was one of the worst decisions I could have made. I should have known better after my last visit. What I experienced in ICU here still gives me nightmares. I waited over 8 hours after being triaged, with obvious symptoms of advanced pneumonia, including coughing up blood, shortness of breath and rapid breathing, severe and extreme confusion--all without anyone paying attention. Eventually, I started losing consciousness and apparently had gone into sepsis after waiting to be treated for so long. The only reason I probably survived was that a hospital administrator (I believe her first name was Sandra) happened to be nearby and intervened. She was horrified upon finding out how long I'd been waiting, and paged her Medical Director to see me. He showed up, then walked out when I had to go to the bathroom while talking to him. I forgot his name, but she fired him that same night after he refused to come back, and replaced him with Dr. Mathew. Upon my admission, a team separate from ICU was assembled and confirmed a primary diagnosis of acute multi-focal pneumonia. Despite this, a full course of antibiotics wasn't started until long after I'd been transferred out of ICU. I was stabilized and given oxygen--for nearly 4 days--while still coughing up blood! Dr. Mathew was now supervising both Critical Care and ICU, so there was no one watching over things most of the time. Now, I know how unbelievable it may sound, but my treatment was abruptly cut off and I was suddenly transferred to out of ICU as a result of my bed in ICU literally being sold to someone else. This patient somehow walked into ICU with his family and a lawyer, threatening to sue for previously poor treatment; they also offered an alternative: a huge sum of money just to get proper treatment. I overheard the panicked conversation, since my room was closest to the ICU entrance, and all rooms there are kept open. I was rushed out of ICU under these truly bizarre circumstances. This late-night, hushed maneuver must have resulted from a decision being approved at some high level by hospital administration. Whether the motivation was money or fear of legal repercussions, putting patient care last is not only antithetical to the Hippocratic oath, it's downright shameful, and the move was very likely illegal under state regulations. I was so shocked by what I'd heard I initially said nothing when the nurse manager walked in and started to clear my room for that patient. She was clearly ashamed while disconnecting my IV line and oxygen (with my SpO2 still dipping under 40%), then covering me up with a full bed-sheet. I finally said, "I guess my my room is being given to someone else." She responded, "I guess you know everything." I was then told "you always have friends here," before being quickly wheeled out. As deathly scary as that was, things only got worse. Once out of ICU and out of sight of the new patient, I was handed only a small plastic bag of oxygen to breathe from. Arriving in a Medicine wing, the nurses alarmingly asked why there was no equipment to provide proper flow of oxygen. As I found out eventually, I was transferred to a wing for palliative care; someone in ICU must have been aware of this, since a portable oxygen machine was left anonymously in a plastic bag outside my room. The wing I was transferred to was essentially a death ward. My vitals were checked only a handful of times in several days. The nurses' only job seemed waking me every hour, on the hour, to make sure I wasn't dead--there was no monitoring! I managed to negotiate a transfer to the main floor, 9, where actual medicine was practiced. Days later, when the CDC came back with results on the culture ICU sent them, confirming a particularly bad strain of pneumonia, a full course of Augmentin--a common antibiotic--was finally started. To summarize, I nearly died in the ER for lack of proper attention and treatment; was stabilized then received practically no treatment other than oxygen in ICU for several days; had my bed there sold to someone else; was transferred to a palliative care wing--a death ward--before negotiating my way out; then was kept on medical hold, with my life upside down in the outside world, for 11 days--when I could have finished treatment at home. The staff may mean well, but there's something very wrong with this place. The higher-ups seem either completely out of touch, or at least entirely disinterested in patient care, outcomes, any level of comfort, or balancing the needs of patients with real-world obligations. It seems there is one thing they are interested in--money. I'd say this establishment lies somewhere between a third-world clinic and a mortuary. There were some redeeming qualities--after all, I walked out alive. Sarcasm aside, I hope this review comes across as factual, because it is. Judge for yourself, but take heed, and for goodness' sake, pick another hospital. read more

This is a review for Samuel's Clinic which is located within Mount Sinai West. I recently decided to find a new PCP and heard great things about this clinic and it is fantastic! Dr Wiener is my new doc and I just had my second appointment with her -- incredibly thorough, patient, and compassionate. All of my referrals are easily handled through the MyMountSinai app/website where I can see all my test results, message physicians if needed, and manage everything I need to know about my health care in one place. I also recently started psychiatric care with Dr. Fishberger through the clinic, who is similarly thorough, responsive and kind. The reception staff is also incredible, my appointments so far have started precisely on time, and the clinic works perfectly with my insurance. It's also great to know that I have access to a social worker there who will have my back if I need help managing anything that my insurance doesn't cover. My first interaction with the clinic was through Lorna Gottesman, LMSW who was, you guessed it, an absolute dream. I can't say enough great things about this place! read more

Worst experience EVER. What a complete joke. Nurses seem annoyed that they have to do anything, they joke with each other but dead-faced with the patients. They don't give any patient care (ha! that word is ridiculous in this place, the do not care) without being asked. People are screaming for help and no one bats an eye. You hear, "I can't help you with that," or "that's not my job" pretty much all night. The fire alarm went off for 40 minutes (!!!) and the staff didn't tell anyone there's no fire, they just went on with their business while the very sick patients had to endure the blaring. 16 (!!!) hours to get admitted but they expect you to be happy because it "can take up to 48 hours to get a bed." The doctors and nurses we had are NOT problem solvers, I'm not sure why they got into this profession. Horrible. They should be ashamed of themselves. Do better! read more

I reviewed this facility two months ago and gave five stars because of the high quality care and the wonderful people on staff. I went back last week for day surgery, a follow up to some of the prior things. Same thing. Great care. Great people. I stayed in recovery much longer than expected. That was my "fault!" blood oxygen issues. I hated staying so long, but obviously, I'm glad they didn't send me out prematurely. They kept in contact with my family every step of the way. My only quibble was when the nurse setting up my exit from recovery was on the phone to post op and referred to ma as a 70 year old male. I promptly corrected her: 70 year old male who looks 40 and acts 15 :-) Seriously, it's always tough to be a patent. But if one has to do it, this is the place to be! read more
