The grounds of Fort Lincoln Cemetery have been well-maintained from as far back as I can remember…read morewhen my beloved maternal grandmother was entombed in 1992. She bought and paid for it with her hard earned money in 1981. I returned to the cemetery in November 2025, after finally having the funds to start the process of having my grandmother's crypt inscribed. The service from staff member André Livingston was not only professional, but welcoming, understanding, caring, and compassionate. Taking into consideration my financial status, Mr. Livingston worked out a monthly pay plan to ease the financial burden of not being able to pay all at once (Thank You Again Mr. Livingston!). Afterwards, my son and I toured the peaceful cemetery grounds which are rich in history. The beautiful statues and biblical and historical references to the Battle of Bladensburg during the War of 1812 throughout the cemetery are something to behold, especially my favorite being the relief of the head of Jesus Christ that follows you as you pass back and forth in front of it. My grandmother, my great aunt/her sister, and my pastor who baptized me when I was a child, are entombed in Fort Lincoln Cemetery's Historic Garden Mausoleum.

Additionally his face looked horrible. I assume the make-up technician was absent. Regardless, attention to detail should be implemented well before the body is presented. Never should there be noticeable bruising on a body. If so, the family should be warned in advance. common-sense. Next, the service was on a Saturday, which meant an extra fee. I can comprehend weekends should incur a extra fee, but please note that funerals only occur ONCE. There are no do-overs. That being said. The microphone was inoperable and NO ONE had a clue how to operate the television, which was inoperative in order to play the slideshow to the guests. The slideshow took a considerable amount of time and energy to prepare. There were also no speakers or means to play music, therefore I looked foolish holding my cell phone, while listening to a song dedicated to my father. Unfortunately, I had to use my laptop to play the slideshow, as I sat on a chair with guests huddled around me. VERY DISTURBING AND NOT WHAT IS EXPECTED FROM SUCH A CLASSY ESTABLISHMENT. After the service ended, the staff took great measure to "rush" us out of the room as in "Mass Exodus" we need to close-up shop type scenario. Felt like a cattle call and frankly-----appalling, indeed. At the gravesite, staff had no clue how to position Dad's casket and at one point they tripped and almost dropped the casket------as the guests gasped! Realizing the casket would not fit properly, staff repositioned it and after SEVERAL attempts placed the casket properly. Staff should no better and something this traumatic becomes a HORRIBLE memory! In a separate post, I will detail the deplorable grounds, where both my mother and father are buried, which is located adjacent to the ghetto maintenance shed and yard that is visible from the grounds of Ft. Lincoln Cemetery. All the funds spent on elaborate Asian memorials (nothing against Asian culture), one would think Ft. Lincoln could renovate the maintenance grounds, to include plush greenery and provide sufficient ways to conceal such an unsightly structure.

Examine the prepaid contract if they insist on getting the additional $1,000.00 well pay them for what they have done and have your love one picked up from Hortons by the new funeral home and taken to the other funeral home that will respect you get a refund from Hortons and this part is "important" get the new funeral home to order your casket. Remember "You" are in charge of your deceased family member not the funeral home. It's totally unnecessary to rip off family members handling the arrangements for an additional 1,000.00 pocket money for the funeral home to handle your loved ones after prearrangements has already been made and "paid for". Also if the removal person shows up to your residence to remove your loved one dressed inappropriately with a hoodie on and casual baggy pants like he's going to a ball game "as a representative of the funeral home" send him away call the funeral Home or another funeral home and "demand" someone that will respect your home and your family that will show up dressed appropriately with at least dress slacks and a decent shirt casual or dress shoes and don't accept them requesting your help to remove your loved one from your residence they should come prepared with two people remember you're paying for this proper service and you tell the funeral home what time to come to your residence to pick up your loved one if you're waiting for other family members to come to your home before your love one is removed from your residence generally they come automatically within 90 minutes but if you need more time let them know when you call to notify them of the passing of your loved one. .

The only thing that was a issue for me was that when first sitting down to meet with someone a piece of paper was just sat in front of my face with no real directions or questions being asked to what I would like to see. If you are helping someone with planning while they are grieving or suffered a loss it is very confusing to just sit down and look at a paper with no real guidance or direction. The other issue I had was we paid for a service and it wasn't provided in the time that we previously discussed. Other than that the workers are very respectful upbeat and polite. A little on the pricey side but still decent.

Kim, RK, Dawn, Crystal, Noah (Olivia, the voice of an Angel) and everyone else took the time to explain, embrace, advise and guide us through this most uncertain time of our lives. They were always available, always attentive, always welcoming and extremely patient with the repeated questions. While a Funeral Home/Crematorium is not something that you frequent, this is a place of Love, Kindness, Understanding and Guidance. They are all now a part of our Family and will be Remembered on a daily basis. Without their experience and professional but comforting attention, this could have been anything less than perfect. The whole experience was, in fact, Perfect on all levels. Thank You All. We Love You. Could not recommend more. They will give you a warm hug, take your hand and memorialize your Loved One with Grace and Compassion.
