It all started when my son said to me that he wants to learn to be an American ninja warrior. Like on television... Teehee he's 4... He has years to get to that point. I spent weeks checking out gyms for him to go too, I found some faults with some, and others that he seemed to like, but were incredibly expensive. My Son is very OCD and boarder line ADD, his attention span is short. He's very smart and a good learner just looses focus easily... We have been going to their classes as often as 4 days a week and some weeks only 2 days, for 7 weeks. the difference in his social skills, strength, focus, and respect for school work has dramatically changed. Thanks to david and Annie he and I have become better people. with the family environment they provide to their class, everyone feels welcome. Hopefully in the near future I will be able to join was well, its very convenient as well because I can choose my training days to be the same as my son... The class that my son attends is a mutual class for children and adults, providing a better experience for the kids because they are able to see the adults and bigger kids and learn from watching them. Coach David is involved in every class and gives each student equal attention. If you are concerned with a certain move and need help perfecting it, all you need to do is ask. When you are a part of any gym you need to have the drive to do your best at each class. Respect for one another, (family, parents, siblings, etc...) is a part of their lessons as well. Side note... David and Annie do not preach their religion, they do however pray after each class. Everyone is welcome to join in prayer, but if you do not want to that is your choice and you are welcome to sit that part out. Master David and Coach Annie are great instructors. They genuinely love this sport. The love, dedication and compassion that they show each individual student speaks volumes!!! They are our second family. One of their many things that they are doing is giving back to our community. Through their non-profit organization Grappling For Life, Inc. they are giving the opportunity to children who normally would not be able to afford something like this a chance to experience the world of BJJ. They are providing a positive outlet to children who, by statistics, would end up on the streets causing trouble an alternative to the streets . It takes a village to raise children and they are here to help! My son is 6 years old, adhd. The impact Master David and Coach Annie has on him is mind blowing! He actually cares what they think and for my son that is a big deal! They have taken my son under their wing and the guidance they are giving my son is making a difference in him. My son at the age of 6 already knows that bjj is not just a sport it's a lifestyle. If you are looking for a gym that will push you to succeed and will walk beside you every step of the way this is the gym for you! If you are expecting to be cuddled, petted and get stripes just bc you show up, you are sadly mistaken. Super excited to finally find a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school that actually cares about their students. They help each and every person that comes through their doors. Even if it is a family member who doesn't train. They help break down the moves so you can understand each step. They give kids a sense of belonging while still holding them responsible for their attitude. My son is in the After school program, and I am so thankful for the amount of time they spend wi th him on his homework, as a working mom I could never get to everything and stil have time to spend together before bed time. I have seen his attitude change drastically in the last 3 months. I am so lucky to have found them. After reading through the other review, it is clear this person has something personal against this gym. They have no idea what truly happens at this gym. My kids started at the Mount Dora BJJ in 2018. The changes in my kids are truly amazing! My daughter is more confident. My son is learning better self control. Both kids are stronger and over all well rounded. Coach David and Coach Annie pour so much into my kids. They are strict, professional all while loving and nurturing. I consider them part of our family! I also like the flexibility with jujitsu classes. They are offered five days a week and we get to pick what days work best for our busy lifestyle. They also offer adult workout classes through Elevate Fitness so I can workout while my kids do their jujitsu class. It's a win win for us all. This gym has so much more to offer than just BJJ. They have Women's Class that helps with conditioning and also builds strong friendships with strong motivated women. My family has been going to Mount Dora BJJ for years. If you're looking for a jiujitsu gym, look no further. The coaches are amazing and help in anyway they can on and off the mat. They've even went as far as helping the kids with homework. They are truly amazing and everyone is treated more like family than any other organization that I've ever been a part of.
