On top of a tall stone plinth, the bronze-colored soldier stands with cap and cloak leaning on his upturned rifle. I think he looks sad. It is a Town lattice truss design. The Squam Covered Bridge was completed in 1990 and is too new to be listed as a Historical Place. There are 4 computers, and 2 more rooms with 8 to 10 floor to ceiling shelves. Besides books, it has tons of movies and magazines. It also has rooms designated for city meetings in the basement, along with the upstairs hosting special events. And it is not dirty, she must be hallucinating.

Saw this plaque on Main Street today and checked it out…read more Alden Partridge was a Superintendent at West Point (1815-1817) and was an authority on military education. He was one of the founding fathers of nearby Norwich University, America's first private military college. It's a simple plaque with a brief biography of Superintendent Partridge.

This spot is not much more than a small park but there is a historical marker that points out some…read moreof the earliest history, predating the Colonial era. The marker reads, "The large mortar found here is in a boulder of glacial origin first hollowed out by water, then by many years of apparent use of Abnaki Indians, and later by the first settlers for grinding corn or maize which was made into cakes and baked over open fire. Also located in this historic lot is a boulder on which a shad is carved, perhaps by the red man to preserve a likeness of his favorite fish, which swam up the Winnipesaukee River when the shadbush blossomed. After the dams were built the fish disappeared." There is a second stone, "This lot contains the ancient stone mortar used by Abenaki Indians and pioneer settlers of Sanbornton.
