The University claims to be diverse but has hardly any resources for minorities outside of the very small percentage dedicated to black students only. The queer spaces are so chronically online and such a joke There are no real discussions happening here to improve our community. Several organizations advertise events with the intention of improving the university in one way or another, but when you attend it's nothing at all like what they say. It's ultimately a waste of time. It's all boring vapid conversations. Why am I sitting here listening to people drone on and on about tiktok or celebrity twitter feuds or the seventieth hockey game we've lost. It's seriously soul crushing. Am I seriously paying $31k/year for this? The staff and student body alike are performative. Claim to be inclusive & accepting yet still somehow judgmental. tell me how that works. The resources for POC here are mainly for the black students which is great but there is little-to-no representation or resources for other racial minorities except for small campus-based groups like LUNA that are hardly recognized by the university. It's ironic considering there is a strong multicultural presence yet no one acknowledges it nearly enough. I came here with the intent of transferring to Ann Arbor (as a junior) and I will be doing so (thank god) after my graduation. Additionally, the city is super small (i'm talking less than a mile of safe walking distance around campus) and everywhere else is a capitalistic concrete shit hole. There's sometimes homeless people sleeping right outside the campus buildings which wouldn't necessarily be an issue IF they weren't literally masturbating. The campus food is gross, overpriced, and staff are rude. The only places outside the Pavilion where you can get decent food are the gentrified areas across downtown Flint where they sell salads for $17 or the Farmer's Market, but the Flint Farmer's Market is so ridiculously overpriced I have no idea why anyone would recommend it. It's a commuter campus, everyone goes home after Thursdays except for the very few people who live on Campus, & even then the social scene is depressing. No one attends the events here. Most "parties" are just a bunch of people awkwardly standing around a room. Campus is empty most of the time. The only actual fun places to be are miles away and the public transportation system sucks (& is dangerous). The dorms are so dirty I seriously question if they even have people responsible for cleaning. First Street always had a weird stench in the halls and I'm almost certain Riverfront just literally doesn't clean after a resident moves from their dorms. I've found rotten food in my fridge after moving in and trash in my room that has clearly been there awhile. The black students stick to each other and the white students do the same. If you're neither of those previous races, you'll have a hard time fitting in & will be treated like an outsider and held at arm's length. I'm Native American and never felt fully welcome. I've felt like I was just gawked at the entire time I was here. No one ever approached me or said hi and I never made friends here. I definitely never felt that "family" type of energy I always hear the faculty preaching about. It was very lonely. Communication is nonexistent. Don't come here if you're first-generation anything. You will only be successful if you teach yourself how to speak up & ASK. They won't tell you anything helpful off the bat, you have to inquire about extra resources and take time out of your own schedule to walk around campus & discover everything. It's also difficult to get accommodations. Most professors have good intentions but some are just plain ignorant and can't fully understood your situation if you're coming from an underprivileged background (despite their image of being a low-income serving institution ). This applies to other faculty as well. Other professors seem like they have no idea what they're doing. Why am I paying $500 for a class when the professor can't even answer any of my questions? Some instructors are good, for sure, but that's rare and few in between. At the end of the day, it's still a university, and you're still getting a diploma. But if you're looking for the "college experience" don't go here. Most people view the Flint branch as a stepping stone to Ann Arbor and I suggest everyone else does the same or just simply not attend here at all. My mental health has declined so much throughout my attendance here. Some of these issues can't be helped, I know. The school just definitely needs more funding. Due to budget cuts things have been going downhill especially with the lack of staff now. Just wish the student body could do something more with engagement. The place needs more morale.

They have also expanded their weight room with an auxiliary weight room which feels very open. The pool is very well maintained but the hot tub closes down frequently. The rec center also has 2 basketball courts and 2 extra courts used for tennis, pickle ball, badminton, and futsal. They also have 2 rachet ball courts and a squash court. There is also a 200m curved indoor track. The rec center will get the job done but nothing is too special.

About half of the students are just out of high school, pursuing either an associates' or bachelors' degree in business. A lot of the students are actually older, though. You'll meet a lot of like-minded people trying to further their career, or change careers, by attending Cleary or utilizing their accelerated degree program. The accelerated degree program was a life-saver for me. Classes met once a week for a year, with concurrent classes always ongoing on the web as well. Start out with your associates', do one more year of school and have your bachelors'.

One semester they did not refund me for a fee they charged me, overcharged my summer tuition (still waiting on that refund) and fall tuition by thousands expecting me not to notice. The school should just restart the whole financial aid department completely because I am not the only one with this problem.
