Although what they do have is absolutely gorgeous, they don't have that much in stock at any one time. Most of the shop is taken up with special occasion dresses for baby girls - which while very beautiful are probably not very useful. I'm not sure the mother of the new arrival would have been particularly pleased if I'd turned up with a bridesmaids dress in way of a gift.... Great if you are looking for a bridesmaids dress or a christening gown though! If only they came in my size... As it's a "boutique" Jessica Boo is also fairly pricey. Casual outfits start from £20/£30 - and christening gowns start at £65, with most costing around the £100 mark.

Like I said, I don't shop for babies often but when I do, I love it! The clothes are so cute and teeny and adorable and....ok, I'll stop the gushing but you get my drift. I wanted to find the perfect present for the new arrival but most importantly, I didn't want it to be the same old stuff he'd be getting from George at Asda or Matalan. I wanted something special. This was perhaps the best thing about Jessica Boo. The rails are not over stacked with screeds of bulk baby grows, instead there are a couple of choice items on each arm, and rarely more than two or three of the same outfit. When I visited, they had more girls clothing than boys, which was a shame, but the woman assured me she would be getting more in soon. She was very, very friendly, going on to tell me that the little hat I was cooing over has adorned the baldy nappers of celebs such as Emma Bunton and Louise Redknapp's offspring. It was gorgeous, and made of cashmere, but the Bonnie Baby branded blue striped hat was a whopping £31.50! This little shop was clearly for the fashion conscious, well off mummy's and daddy's who didn't mind the potential ruining of said garments with milky vomit. I left empty handed but not disappointed; Jessica Boo does not claim to be a run of the mill baby shop, so I didn't expect to find any £5 rompers in there anyway. Gorgeous suits and dresses that will make you go all gooey eyed, perfect for a special occasion or a christening, but certainly not for everyday wear. But thirty quid for a hat? You must be ga-ga.

So, when all is said and done, expensive clothes for kids are a big no-no in my book. However... my sometimes overwhelmingly ridiculous side cannot help but be bowled over by the sight of a three year old in a military style woolen coat. Something along the lines of how I react to Pets At Home. OHOSOCUTE!! And you know, sometimes I think it strengthens the bond between mother and child by having the child dressed so smartly, so... sometimes - SOMETIMES it's worth getting the high quality stuff and keeping your child away from all puddles and ice-cream on days they're wearing it. The rest of the time, I do think wasting money in such a fashion is insane. But for those special times - head along here and ease your fashion minded desires by taking them out on your kids. It'll be worth it someday.... ok, maybe not.

As i may have mentioned in my review for another kids store in the city (see love it again) i'm pretty sure that kids are those small things that play with mud, roll down hills and generally do messy, dirty things on a daily basis. So, answer me this why are we dressing them in designer gear when a hessian sack would be more appropriate....hmmm and a possible business idea!! That said however, if your of the opinion that your child should match you in your designer gear then this place will provably suit you and judging by the amount of time this store has been in business, it looks like there are a few of you out there. With cool signage, funky window displays and a name that will always appeal (any Beatles related place will always have a look in) Strawberry Fields is the benchmark and elder statesman of the designer gear for kids emporiums. It caused outrage amongst the readers of The Motherwell Times and thankfully, Tinkerbell won and lived on to see another day. Drama aside, Tinkerbell is yet another baby and kids wear store that specialises in the more expensive end of the spectrum. Stockists of designer makes and elaborate communion and Christening gowns, it is definitely a good place to visit if you need any of the latter. In saying that, the shop does stock a huge range of stuff, so it is quite unlikely you'll leave empty handed, as the stuff is just adorable. I bought my nephew a gorgeous pair of blue patent, really old fashioned baby booties which his mummy loved, for the not so expensive price of £13.00.

There are lots of activities and things for children to make inside The Smart Stork which is ideal for parents so that they can look round the shop while their child is occupied playing. The range of toys available in this store is quite amazing - they have castles for boys and princess castles for girls, learning books, soft toys and a cook your own food kit which I would have loved when I was younger. The Smart Stork also has a decent sized baby section, with books, clothes and toys. If there is something you can't find in the shop, they have a huge range of children's goods on The Smart Stork website which are available to order. It is a fantastic shop to pop into to buy something for children, you will be spoilt for choice.

They stock clothing from ages 0 -12 so if you have a friend or family member who has just had a baby then you can get them a really cute little outfit from here. These really are special occasion clothes and are the kinds of items that you would only put on your child for a special day out at the risk of them getting covered in food or mud. They also stock a range of smart clothes for older children under 12 such as beautiful dresses for birthday parties. The shop is bright, fresh and inviting and the window displays are so sweet that it would be hard walking by without popping in if you have your own little ones.

The shop carried many indie labels such as Bobo Choses, Hugo loves Tiki, Grey label, olli and Ella, etc. The owner was very lovely, she let my toddler explore and play with the baskets and toys in the shop. She really loved it. I asked my daughter where she wanted to visit next time and her reply was Edinburgh. So I guess we'll be back soon ;)

No icky frilly lacy pink party dresses in sight just a funky collection of interchangeable cool separates for wee boys and girls all ethically sourced. I am just hoping that they will eventually start doing adult sizes too!! Their collection of homeware items are well worth a look also. I have their Studio Roof Archetype Buildings on my fridge at home and I am in a completely kid free house! It's definitely a destination shop but if you don't live close enough they have a fabulously well organised website to tempt you.

Our New arrival is due in June and my wife and I were fed up trekking into Glasgow to check out prams etc . This store has everything you need for a new born and the staff were so nice and friendly (making a change from some of the stores in town) . We ordered our complete bedroom furniture which thankfully was on special saving me over £400 which they are storing for me until i can get the nursery in order . my wife cant decide which pram yet (they have so many to choose from ) but we will be back at Matchsticks to get one from them .

It's a clothing shop and they have a really good range for all ages - even up to early teenages. My niece/nephews aren't quite that old yet but they had nice stuff and I found a few cute little jackets that I'd definitely consider getting. Prices seemed kind of high but then I don't have kids so I actually don't know what kids clothes should cost, and I don't tend to mind when buying as presents. So while I didn't buy anything this time, I was impressed with the range and will definitely pop back for a purchase soon.
