Not the "best" in motels. However, rooms are clean. Staff is friendly. And if youre on a budget then this works.

All the different kinds of sweeteners and they have sweet cream, half and half, French vanilla, and hazelnut creamer. Individual cup coffee makers that grind the beans as you wait on the cup. The breakfast is great too! Turkey sausage, pork sausage, cheese omelets, really good sausage and gravy with biscuits, a very cool pancake maker (it makes two at a time but one is small) instead of having to wait on waffle makers. I'm pretty pleased with this stay!

I had originally booked a suite, but the first room smelled smoky--almost like an overheated vacuum cleaner. The second room smelled strongly of smoke as well, but since I needed to get ready quickly for the wedding, I decided to let it go. To their credit, the staff handled the room change politely, though it almost felt like this was a common issue. Unfortunately, the hallways smelled like marijuana, and there was a lingering "smoking theme" throughout. The carpets felt damp and the rooms were noticeably humid, which made the overall environment less comfortable. While the hotel itself was reasonably clean, it's clear that people are smoking inside, and the property could benefit from better air filtration or moisture control in the rooms. On a positive note, the continental breakfast was much nicer than expected, offering a full hot breakfast rather than just the basics. Overall, I don't feel the stay was worth the rate I paid. For under $100 a night, this hotel would have been acceptable, but at a higher price point it fell short of my expectation.

I LOVE staying here. Joel and Crystal do such an amazing job of running it and keeping things going…read moreslowly. My a/c quit working and Joel had someone fixing it within moments. Great people, great atmosphere, and clean and safe.

Let's not get carried away, knowing how technical of a race it was and elevation...I digress....) I knew I'd need a place to stay nearby. After a little sleuthing, I landed on Comfort Inn Kings Mountain Arrival was smooth. Big parking lot, well lit, and immediately felt easy. Check-in was quick and painless, and the front desk agent, Star, was genuinely pleasant. Always a solid start. The room was spacious and clean. Shower pressure was strong, which I always appreciate, though the handle was a bit loose and occasionally allowed the water to creep into "whoa there" territory. Probably just needs a quick tighten of a washer or screw. Minor thing. The bed was large and comfortable. Exactly what you want the night before a race. Breakfast was your standard hotel setup, but honestly, it's hard to mess up a toasted bagel. Carbs were secured, mission accomplished. Location worked out perfectly for both the event and nearby food. Price and value were spot on for what I needed. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. Especially if I come back next year and decide to level up to the 50 miler. More than likely.

The Inn of the Patriots - Enjoy the cooking classes and culinary fun!

Very good experience at the Inn of the Patriots. Room was clean. Easy to access house with a code…read morethat was emailed to me. We took the cooking class (extra charge) with chef Marti on Sunday, and we made Scottish cottage pie, which was delicious. You not only get to cook, but chef Marti provides background information regarding Scotland. (Map, history, a couple short videos of movies about Scotland, regional dishes to Scotland, etc.) Chef Marti involves everyone in the cooking process. Once our cottage pie had baked in the oven, we sat around the kitchen table and had a bowl of pie, and a salad and bread. (Drinks also) Breakfast was served each morning at 9am, and was very good. Fresh fruit each morning, and yesterday we had oatmeal with apples, bacon, baked egg dish with red peppers, skillet potatoes with homemade ketchup, and really good toast made from some type of French bread. I added some strawberry jam on top, and it was delicious. Today we had homemade sausage with fennel, skillet potatoes, cream of wheat with cranberries, and croissant French toast. There were only 4 of us at breakfast, so there was a lot of food for everyone. I was stuffed...it was so good. Chef Marti, and his helper (Kim) go above and beyond, to make sure you have what you need. Relaxing on the front porch rockers was very nice each evening.

Before you buy that Groupon/LivingSocial…read more.. I purchased a 2-night getaway for my in-laws as a Christmas gift here. The voucher included 2 nights at the inn, tickets to the Presidential Culinary museum, a tour of a local vineyard for tour, breakfast for tour, an autographed cookbook and breakfast for two each morning. When my in-laws told me about their experience, I was so disappointed. While the website states on the homepage, "private bathrooms available" the room they were given was not and a bathroom was shared with the owner & family. I realize this is a mainstay of b&b's, but I think inquiring whether they had wanted a private bathroom upon reservation would have been considerate (even if requiring an additional cost.) During the night, the roof began leaking and trash cans had to be places throughout the bedroom to catch the drips. There were no chocolate covered strawberries, but leftover birthday cake was offered instead. They were not given the winery tour, tickets to museum or cookbook. I should add that my in-laws are very quiet and humble people, so they didn't raise a big fuss about the situation while they were there or ask for the parts of the package they were not given. They did say the breakfast was excellent. So there's that. They actually only stayed one of the 2 nights they were so disappointed in the amenities. My husband later called and spoke to the proprietor because we were so disappointed with our parent's stay. He was very kind but basically tried to "explain" everything that had happened - he did eventually apologize for their bad experience and offered for them or us to come back for another weekend on the house. My in-laws opted not to, and I can't say I blame them. I was appreciative that the owner was willing to allow them a chance to come back and stay again- I am always appreciative of someone who does try to right a situation after a wrong. That is why I have given it a 2-star rating instead a 1-star rating. His handling of the situation made the difference there. I truly hope others go and experience something better, and I hope that this was a once in a lifetime fluke. But I didn't do my homework before buying the Groupon (I didn't consult Yelp) and I might have thought twice if there was a review like mine up. Then again, that's half the fun of a Groupon getaway - you never quite know what you are going to get!
