When you drive up, you'll think, "Oh, what a cute hotel, out in the middle of nowhere!" My…read moresuggestion is to drive back to somewhere and stay there.
I did not say the "cute hotel, middle of nowhere" thing because it was after dark when we got to the hotel and there was almost no lighting on the grounds. I could barely tell that there was a hotel there, let alone a cute one. We actually drove right past it. We drove back and still we almost missed it again. Not the best signage. And, as I mentioned, no lights. Husband checked in. We got in to our room, not an easy task in the dark, but we had the headlights to help us. The hotel was obviously being renovated and this was one of the newly renovated rooms. It was clean and cute, if a little sparse. There was a double bed. The headboard was the width of a queen size bed. Otherwise adorable. This is obviously a limited budget reno, but it is low budget done well. However, there were not enough outlets and the ones that were there were badly placed. A lot of loose cords showing. There were a couple problems with the bathroom sink. First, it is right in the middle of the counter. Anyone shorter than me would have trouble leaning over to spit. Secondly, it didn't have any water. Which is something you usually want in a sink. I went down to reception and asked if there was a vending machine where I could get a bottle of water. They explained to me that there was a water dispenser outside the room. Didn't I see it? It's a big black box. No, I had not seen the big black box in the near pitch dark outside my room. I went back to the room and found the black box and got water out of it. I had a couple smoke breaks throughout the night. I didn't sit on the bench outside the room, as it was rainy and the bench was wet. I stood near the black box. There was something on the ground. I was right next to where they were doing reno, so I thought little of it. I kicked the something away. It was not hard or heavy like reno stuff often is. But I thought little of it. I put my butts in the flower pot next to the bench. A flower pot next to a bench is a perfectly good ashtray. But you need to empty it, or at least add another layer of sand. It was pretty full. Hard to put a cigarette out in there. I tried to get some sleep in the double bed with Husband. In the morning, we left and I saw the something that I had kicked away from the black box, where I was smoking. It was a dead bird. Since most birds don't fly at night, I'm thinking this one had lost his little birdie life during the daylight hours (many hours before we arrived) and wasn't found and cleaned up. Yucky.
