Where they need improvement: 1. There was sand in my sheets. It was obvious the staff did not change not the sheets after the last guests. 2. The layout was a little tough to navigate. I get the appeal but I was with a large group of blind people who had a hard time finding their rooms. 3. The vanity light stopped working. It worked the first night but didn't work after that.

I ended up here at the Crystal Inn because I could get a room under $200 a night. Upon checking in (hint: check in online instead of walking in to save a few more pennies), the young man who greeted me behind the plexiglass was pleasant and polite. The room was clean. The shower was awesome, and the water pressure was strong. The beds are not the softest, but we had a good night's sleep, and the beds are bug free. The TV was large and there was a mini fridge and microwave in the room. Rooms open to the pool area, which has plenty of lounge chairs. The water was crystal clear, and the pool was very well maintained. All in all, well worth the price, especially for the NJ shore area in the summertime!!

I was just…read moredischarged from the hospital and my attorney recommended it to me because it was close to his office. I only had enough cash for a few nights. Please note if you don't reserve on line, you pay substantially more than the internet price and I have a feeling the difference goes in the front desk clerk's pocket. I have stayed in many hotels and franchises from a Hampton Inn to a Ritz Carlton. This was by far the most depressing and fleabag hotel ever. The rooms have ancient, dark wood paneling. The fixtures in the bathroom are old and tarnished. The comforter on the bed was worn and stained. There is no adequate storage - there was one hanger on a pole. There is no coffee maker in the room. If you want coffee, you have to go to the front office and pay $1 for one small styrofoam cup. The breakfast is simply cold cereal. The clientele is marginal. Other residents appeared to be long term and clients of the drug rehab facility two buildings away. People check in late at night and it was clear to me that the women were of negotiable virtue. I got tired of the locals bumming cigarettes from me so the night desk clerk let me sit at a table out front where he could keep an eye on me. He was actually very helpful during my stay. The police were called twice during my stay because homeless were vandalizing cars and harassing the staff. I did not have my wallet or credit cards due to a theft and my car was impounded while I was in the hospital. On the last day of my stay, I walked to my bank which was over a mile away, hoping they would recognize me and let me withdraw more funds. Even though they recognized me, their policy was they could only give me $100 since I did not have my debit card or ID. I walked back to the hotel and at 10:30 am, asked the front desk if I could have a late check out to give me time to reach my brother in Alaska who could provide his credit card to pay for additional nights. I knew he was not immediately available since he works the night shift. The reaction of the female front desk clerk was the most horrible experience I have had with anyone in my entire life. She became outraged and started yelling that I was "manipulative." For some reason, she felt it necessary to tell me how she was sodomized as a child and made graphic plunging motions with her arm and fist, insisting that was what I deserved. I was never rude to her so I don't know what set her off other than she is simply a sadist who enjoys humiliating 64-year old, handicapped women. And, though I agreed to leave before checkout, she called the police. Fortunately, I am on very good terms with my local PBA and have a State PBA card as well so the officers helped me get safely away from her. If you see positive reviews about the Crystal Inn, rest assured they are likely fabricated by management. The best thing that could happen is to have this dump shuttered and demolished. There are too many nice hotels in the area that are perfectly affordable if you plan in advance. The Hampton Inn on Route 66 is immaculate and has a full, hot breakfast. There is also a perfectly nice Holiday Inn on Route 36 in Eatontown.

However, it didn't take much to outshine the Embassy Suites that I had just left in Richmond, Virginia, to impress me. When I arrived at this hotel, the manager went above and beyond to work with me since I am Deaf. He pulled out a notepad and wrote the specifics about the hotel and the surrounding area. Also, I couldn't help but notice the exit signs were like they were over in Europe and Canada, which I prefer. They're green with a figure walking. If you get the opportunity to stay here, you'll notice them. Also, the rooms were more like small apartments, not in the Embassy Suites style or TownePlace Suites by Marriott or any other chain. They were very unique. I noticed they didn't have any pans to cook with, which was a downside; still, I can easily handle that. The bed was firm but not a rock. I sleep great all night. They offered bathrobes for guests, which were hanging in the bathroom. Most importantly, I took my black light to the entire room, and I didn't stumble across some disgusting stain for once. I would stay here again. I hope Best Western keeps thinking about RIO because I need another hotel option after the massive debacle in Richmond, VA. Please see my other review for that hotel hell. On a side note, the day I was leaving an entire hockey team from Canada was arriving to stay here. It was pretty cool seeing them packing all their gear.

This place is a shoddy renovation of a Red Roof Inn with serious issues. First issue was continuous fire alarms. which I've never seen in a hotel before. The first room they gave me reeked of damp and mold. Bubbling paint around the AC looked like hidden mold -- confirmed by a maintenance worker before he backtracked with an offensive, racist comment blaming the smell on "Indian people" who stay here. I reported it immediately. They moved me to a second room that had an overpowering cigarette stench. The final room was just barely acceptable -- and that's being generous. They have a button to press for room service, but room service never comes, so you have to beg them for things like towels because if you tell the front desk, they'll just forget or not care. The front desk was chaotic and unhelpful, but did acknowledge maintenance comments as unprofessional. I had to request a room change multiple times. In the process, I accidentally left my AirPods on the counter because I was up there so often. They "lost" them, "found" them, and "lost" them again. Now they claim to have them, but given how this place operates, I wouldn't be shocked if they disappear as retaliation for this review. The manager told me over the phone earlier that he was going to donate them Even as a Diamond Select member, they refused my late check-out benefit until I had to reinforce the point that this is a Best Western hotel with a status system which the higher tiers allow late check out after which I was begrudgingly granted a late checkout. When I asked the manager for just one night credited back from my 10-day stay after all the trouble, he never got back to me, then on the follow-up, he hung up on me. Between the mold, cigarette smell, offensive comments from staff, unprofessional management, mishandling of personal belongings, and refusal to honor loyalty benefits, this hotel is a total disaster.
