    Dead cockroach

Cockroaches all over my room, crawling on the television. shower was filthy, air conditioner doesn't work. Pretty sure there were meth shards on the night stand. And the bathroom door handle was broken.

European/Australian shower in Motel 6 Oroville.

Like that world-wide Scottish restaurant McDonald's, one isn't going to get gourmet fare but you know what you are going to get for your minimal dollars. Because of their no additional cost pet policy, Motel 6 has become my home away from home - I know I am going to get a reasonable place to sleep though would never take anyone there I was trying to impress. Reminds me of that Scottish restaurant. :-) The one thing that does vary from location is the shower and this one took me by surprise. The shower was similar to what I've seen in Europe and Australia: basically an end of the bathroom is closed off by a shower curtain and has it own drain. Perfectly functional, easy for them to clean, and something that this North American has always found strange even though it makes perfect sense. You should be able to find a picture of the shower somewhere in this Motel 6's review. For a moment, I thought I had the accessible room until I saw that the toilet did not have rails. What was also strange about the bathroom was the complete lack of furniture. The shower was at one end, there was a wash basin, and there was the toilet and nothing else. Would have been nice to have some surfaces to put things on. But it is Motel 6 and you usually know what you're getting. Yup, I would stay there again. A bit of strangeness with the WIFI. I paid $3 for it as expected at Motel 6 but never had to enter passwords, etc. In other words, the WIFI system was open and I didn't need to pay an extra $3 - oh well. Caveat: If I wasn't traveling with my dog, I would have investigated staying at a number of small and locally owned motels on Feather River Boulevard between the Motel 6 and Oroville Dam Road. FWIW, because of the Yelp reviews, I did not eat at the restaurant that abuts the Motel 6. Yes it was convenient but, with the exception of the pies, it held no appeal.

If there was an option to give zero stars, I would. Horrible customer service right off the bat. Upon entering my NON-smoking room, I was greeting with a thick, pungent odor of smoke. One of the two beds had burn holes in the comforter and the other was horribly stained. I turned on the light to the bathroom, and....COCKROACHES. I will never stay here again, nor do I recommend anyone else does. Better off sleeping in your car.

This place was disgusting. Horrible customer service and the room smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Worst motel 6 ever.

Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton Oroville - Breakfast Area

My room had been fine, there is just a musty smell in the room. Around the 3rd night or so, in my room on the second floor, there were maybe 2 ants. It was late so I just killed them and went to bed. Later, woke up to find ants in my bed !!!! TV also had no sound (yes, I tried everything). Not in the best neighborhood, wanted to walk to get a coffee had to worry about homeless that was walking up to me. 2 stars because the staff is friendly, quick to offer a new room. Complimentary breakfast. 2 stars because Lack of cleanliness :(

I stayed one night at the Hampton Inn in Oroville and overall had a good experience, with a few…read moreimportant pros and cons worth mentioning for future travelers. There aren't many hotel options in Oroville, and this is definitely one of the two nicer choices in town (along with the Holiday Inn). That said, I do think the typical rate of about $135-$150 per night feels a bit high for what you get. However, staying in Oroville itself can be very convenient depending on why you're visiting, so sometimes the location justifies the price. One big plus is that the hotel feels safe. The rooms are interior-entry only, and you need your room key to access the building. When I arrived, the front desk staff buzzed me in. The staff throughout my stay were extremely friendly, polite, and helpful. The property itself is very clean and well maintained. The rooms, corridors, parking lot, and hotel grounds were all in excellent shape. There is some overgrown land next to the property where you may see a few homeless individuals nearby, but they kept to themselves and did not bother anyone during my stay. There are several food options within walking distance if you're comfortable walking across parking lots and nearby roads. Right in front of the hotel are Panda Express and Starbucks, with Sonic just beyond that. Across the main road there's also a McDonald's, an ARCO AMPM gas station and mini-market, a Maverik travel stop, and Dutch Bros Coffee. One small tip: the driveway entrance to the hotel is easy to miss because the sign is very small and the turn comes up quickly, so keep an eye out when approaching. Parking is plentiful, but there is a $5 parking fee per vehicle, which felt unnecessary given the size of the lot and the room price. The complimentary breakfast from 6-10 AM was convenient and appreciated. During my stay they offered eggs (plain and cheese omelets), sausage, potatoes, cereals, oatmeal, fruit, and pastries. Coffee and hot water were also available in the lobby at all times, which was very nice. My main downside was the mattress in my room, which had a noticeable lump in the middle and sloped slightly on one side. The TV remote was also a bit confusing to use at first because the volume and channel controls are narrow bars rather than traditional +/- buttons. This next thing is really no fault of the hotel, but it does seem that there are a lot of contracted personnel (state or county?) who arrived later in the day after I got there. I know from past experience, sometimes different county or states or companies will contract with a certain hotel company to house their employees when they are on a job site. It seemed every single one of them had a large white work truck parked in the lot. Of course, these trucks take up a lot of room and barely fit into the parking spot - which then encroaches onto your parking spot so it doesn't leave a lot of room to get in and out of. I know it's not the hotel's fault where these people park, but I really wish that there is a way to make sure that all these trucks park in the back away from the main lot. So just fair warning if you're somebody that plans to use their car in the evening; you might have a hard time getting into the car if these workers happen to stay during your stay. Overall, this is a clean, safe, convenient hotel with very friendly staff and easy access to nearby food. If you specifically need to stay in Oroville, it's a solid choice. If rates are high and you don't mind driving a bit farther, you may find better value in nearby Chico, Marysville, or Yuba City.

Villa Court Inn - A very comfortable bed

Stayed for one night, got a very good rate for a Saturday night. I was kind of nervous based on…read morethe bad reviews from the past, but those are definitely from the past. Everyone was very friendly. This is an old roadside motel, but it is like brand new now.. The room I was in had been totally renovated. The room and the bathroom were spotless, and the room was a decent size. The heater kept the room at a good temperature. The motel's neighborhood had a power outage overnight that lasted about 5 hours, but the room still stayed at a comfortable temperature even with the heater not running. I slept like a baby and did not get cold. The room was very bright. No table lamps. Not including the bathroom, light, There are 4 lights built into the ceiling, each with it's own switch. You can make the room as bright or as dim as you want. There are also plenty of plugs to charge your gear. The TV had a good picture and got quite a few channels from Dish Network. The bed was very comfortable. There's a desk if you want to do some work, and there is also a coffee maker, as well as a fridge and microwave. When I first got there, there was a problem with the wi-fi. I called down to the desk, and they said they would reboot the router. After that, it worked great, with enough speed to stream video. Someone even came down to check to make sure it had been fixed. There were 2 minor things that I would normally take away a star for, but I was so satisfied, I'm going to leave this a 5 star review. The bed had 3 pillows, and they were kind of small. I normally sleep with 2 pillows. I had to use all 3 and it was fine. If there are 2 people, you may need to get more pillows from the office. The other thing, is that the bathroom floor can get slick, and there is no grab bar. There is a towel bar next to the shower, but I don't know how sturdy it would be as a grab bar Just watch how you are stepping. Just a fantastic stay. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks!!

My room (room 13) is not the reason for writing this review . . . a couple that I recommended this stay to apparently battled with bed bugs the 2 nights they stayed (3/15 and 3/16/2024). They were in room 15, and left Sunday morning with MANY bites around the ankles and on their legs. I would have prefered to email the Villa Court staff directly about this, but here I am because they have lined through their email address on their business cards and it is nowhere to be found on the internet. Interesting, at best . . .
