I always like to leave reviews for the cheaper hotels because I think they often get bad ratings from folks looking for a different experience. I'm just looking for an affordable place to stay that feels clean, safe and comfortable and the American Inn checked those boxes without a doubt. The guy at the front desk was nice and the price was great. The room was dated but large and clean- I'd rather pay less for a dated room than more for a newer set of furniture and a fresh coat of paint. The heater got my room toasty fast and I loved that the mini fridge had a real freezer with it's own door, not just a "freezer" shelf at the top of the fridge. Shower stayed warm the whole time and the bed was comfy- I slept great. Thank you, American Inn for a nice rest for my gal and I after a long day of travel. read more

Most people would assume Motel 6 and Run-down in the same breath. Not here. This Motel 6 updates their rooms, and I have to say I am highly impressed. And the price is still very affordable to everyone. My room had a large king size bed which I slept very comfortably on. A retro sitting area with a rather comfy cushion side made for doing my business work on the computer very enjoyable. The bathrooms have all been redone, and I can truly say this, and basically the entire room, was very well kept and clean. Room even had a fairly new fridge complete with small freezer. All the outlets are brand new, so no loose fitting sockets! And there are PLENTY of outlets to utilize for today's technology. This place did it right. No room lighting takes up the available outlets as I have found in so many other places. If I happen to have a need to stay in Hawthorne again. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here. There were three of us on the work crew. Each room was all the same. So I am assuming all rooms are similar. read more

It's now called the American Inn. Not a Motel 6 any longer and the following story involves it's "manager." I volunteer as a ranger on some BLM land in Northern Nevada every August since 2000. Every year I can I stay at the Holiday Lodge on my way back. By the time I get there I'm half mad for a hot shower and a night with clean sheets. After this year I will NEVER stay there again. I arrived there this year around 8:30am Labor Day. Usually the lot is full of dust covered cars of people coming home from the Burning Man festival but this year there were just three or four old not dusty clunkers and the rest of the lot was empty. I parked near the office in the street side parking and walked toward the office. As I did so this Minivan pulled in and stopped between me and the office. This mid 50's Indian [the sub continent] fellow got out and got between me and the office door demanding "what do you want?" Jeans, sunglasses, plaid shirt, ballcap. He was really curt about it like he suspected evil or something. I gestured at the motel and said "To get a room" like what do you think I'm doing at a motel? He said he had no rooms and that they were all undergoing renovation. I said that was a shame as I tried to stay there every year on the way home, thanked him and left. There are a few other motels in town so I got in my car and went to the nearest one I could think of, The American Inn. It's lot was empty except for one car. I rang the door bell at the office door and after a while a young Indian man came out to the desk and gestured toward the door which I found was now unlocked. He and I negotiated a price within my budget and as he was getting the paperwork together the Indian guy from the first motel [Holiday Lodge] came into the office lobby from outside. Meeting my eyes he declared that "I run this motel too." He then turned to the younger guy behind the counter and spoke to him in a language I didn't recognize. The young guy answered and then the older guy turned to me and quoted a price higher than what I had just agreed on. I pointed out that my budget wouldn't stretch that far and he lost his cool, majorly. His voice got shrill and loud and he started to claim that I was trying to "rip him off" and stay 36 hours for free. I didn't understand that as you pay in advance at these kind of places and my plan was as always to get up and be on the road by 10am the next morning. It was just very weird and uncomfortable but it got worse when he added "and I have been here six years and I've never seen you before." My trigger is people bullying me and people calling me a liar. This guy was trying both on for size. I leaned down so I could see his face and asked him "Are YOU really calling me a liar? Did you just call ME a liar?" To which he replied the typical yeah, what are you going to do about it. I'm 6'6" and 270 pounds while he was about 5'7" and 155 soaking wet. It would been hilarious if I wasn't so tired and angry. I bid him a hearty FU and got in my car for points south. Checking my records when I got home I found that of the last ten years I'd stayed at the Holiday Lodge every year but 2020 [covid] and 2023 [co-driver wasn't into stopping] and in 2022 I stayed there both on my way up AND on my way back. I don't know what business they're in there at the Holiday Lodge [and the American motel] these days but it's pretty clear to me that it IS NOT renting rooms to weary travelers. Maybe that needs looking at. read more

I stayed here June 20th and 21st and was disgusted to find blood and hair on one of the mattresses. Lucky for me there were 2 queen beds and the other mattress was fine. I really hope this review makes them replace it. Room 209 read more

We made a reservation for 2 nights and paid online. On arrival at 1:30 pm the lobby door was unlocked so we entered to check in. No one was there. We decided to call in hopes of talking to a live person but the phone just rang. We walked around the building looking for someone, but no one was there. While waiting a maid arrived to work but informed us she had no idea where her boss was and she could not check us in. She stayed outside waiting as we left. We called corporate and they informed us that our reservation had been cancelled and they had no idea why. They also called the office without an answer. read more

We we're so tired from our road trip that we decided to pull into this Motel 6 for the night. The front desk gal was super nice and pleasant and what a deal $! She gave us a room all the way at the end on the second floor. To our surprise it was super clean! This motel 6 was quiet, beds are comfortable and had plenty of space to park our truck and trailer. read more

This stop changed my life. Literally - because of the honesty of the staff and the dignity with how this hotel is run by the owner. It's clean, it's safe and it's in the process of becoming one of the most successful hotels in Hawthorn. The owner is very hard working and attentive. According to my husband's experience of him, in our way from Utah to California, noticed he is always busy and always watching the premises always taking care of the guests. They make sure you always have what you need. My first experience on the way to California was great, but this time I had forgotten behind something very important and valuable on the way back to Utah. Both staff and owner were kind and kept it safe for me until I was able to be back to retrieve it. It was the longest 45 min of my life. Especially now, rebuilding my business during this pandemic, I had forgotten behind crucial items I had gone to California to source, because I got distracted tending to my daughter in the back seat. When I was back, one of the housekeeping team members told me they had it and just had to check with the owner where it was stored. I hugged everyone. I left a candle behind. Because we need more angels like that on Earth. If you ever want to make sure you are at a safe stop when passing through Nevada, I highly recommend this one.
