Welcome to my nightmare of Moston Car Sales. I purchased a £9500 57Reg Lexus IS220d. I purchased the car late Saturday afternoon after driving 5 hours for the car. I arrived at 4.30 and they were hassling me to leave at 5pm. I purchased the car and this is where my nightmare begins. By the Sunday, less than an hour's driving later, the car developed a major noise from the gearbox. I was already 400miles back from the dealer before the problem really started to develop. By the Wednesday I had taken to the Lexus to a main dealer and gearbox specialist. All of which stated that the gearbox was beginning to fail. I spoke to Moston Car Sales demanding my money back after only 3 days of owing the car. An option which trading standards advised me to do. The dealer was nothing but rude and after a great extent of arguing, they agreed to repair the car. I took the car back up there that Saturday, another 400miles, where they promised it would be back 1 week later. 2 weeks and thousands of phone calls later, the car is ready to pick up. Travelled another 400 miles to collect the car. The dealers exact words, which was the choice catch phrase he used before we bought the car, was you cannot fault this car. NEEDLESS TO SAY, ON THE FIRST gear change, guess what? the problem was just as clear as it was 2 weeks ago. 1 majorly annoyed customer later and an hour of purse stress, they agreed to refund the money BY MONEY TRANSFER on the Monday. How stupid was I to believe this. The money didn't arrive in the account at all. I rang every day 10 times a day to chase my £9500 pounds. They tell me that they have posted a check, which will take 5 days to clear and they couldn't transfer the money as they didn't have enough of it. THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMELS BACK before I had even returned home on the Saturday, the car was advertised on Autotrader AGAIN; not only with a broken gearbox which they were fully awayre of, but for £500 more then I paid for the car 2 weeks earlier. This kind of cowboy behaviour is all you need to know before you purchase a car from Moston Car Sales, Liverpool Road, Chester. Both the owner and salesman are incredibly difficult, rude and clearly uninterested in selling you any grade of quality car. This should have been evident when you turn up to a petrol station forecourt and a B&Q desk for an office. I advise you to learn from my horror story and avoid at all costs. read more

Rude, obnoxious, uncooperative and bad mannered to start with. I've only awarded 1 star because it was open. We visited at the weekend as we had seen in Autotrader what we thought was a good first car for my son. The price on Autotrader was £1490. The price on the windscreen was £1750. We asked the owner/salesman about this & his response was the screen price is how much it costs. Pointed out the advertised cost via Autotrader, he answered Yeah, that's it! Can we negotiate on price? I asked. The response? I've already sold 8 cars today, I don't need to sell any more We asked for a test drive. We were allowed one reluctantly and offhandedly by the owner/salesman. We noticed a few issues with it so asked the owner about them. Engine management light was on? His answer? A shrug of the shoulders. The front offside tyre is bald/illegal. His answer? It would get through an MOT. (Believe me. that tyre wouldn't have got through a puddle). There appears to be an oil leak? Again he shrugged hos shoulders and said it needed oil. UNBELIEVABLE It is possible that this man has taken an advanced course in rudeness and ignorance, as he clearly excelled at it. While we were there, a family arrived to pick up their BMW, looking very happy. 2 minutes later they were back. They had broken down. How far away? Less than 100 yards! My advice? Offhand, rude, reluctant to talk. They seemed to have just the car I wanted, I talked about it over the 'phone, and all seemed well so I drove over to look at the car. They could not have been less helpful, utterly offhand and discouraging. When we arrived, once the front of house person stopped talking to his friend, he handed me the key to the car almost without a word and started talking to his friend again. We did not know what we were expected to do with the key! I went back to the office to say I wanted to drive the car. Eventually, after three 'phone calls!! I did get them to agree to let me drive it. Later, I realised they shoudl not have, because it had an almost flat front tyre (which maybe explained the squint steering wheel, but probably did not). My partner noticed a couple of bits that had dropped off inside, and rather that putting them back, they were just put into the as tray. This was as horrible experience. Really horrible! We went home feeling really bad. (We did not buy the car of course!) Please avoid! read more

I was a bit unsure about travalling 180 miles to look at the bmw these guys had for sale after reading the reviews, but because of the competitive price i thought i would take the chance, and im glad i did, on arrival everywhere was busy like morrisons on a saturday, however all was under control and very professional i had to wait 5 mins to get the keys to the car i wanted to view, bit i was impressed with how the young lady from reception was there offering a comfortable seat and coffee while i waited, on inspecting the bm i couldnt beleive how unrushed the whole experience was, i was left with a £18000 car and keys to spend as long as i wanted to to play with all the toys without any presure at all, i bought the car 2 weeks ago and we are going there on wednesday with my daughter to hopefully buy her a car, and hopefully after leaving this review i may get a discount :-) seriously keepup the good work guys, im well impressed. read more

Phoned up to check they had the 2008 Astra van I was looking at on the internet,I asked them to tell me about the van.The reply was It's a good clean van so I made the 100 mile round trip to see it, had a look at the van and found that it had a roof rack not meant for it drilled through the roof which had 4 large rust patches on the roof, the supports for the roof inside were hanging down, it had a bad oil leak, an illegal bald tyre and another that was close to illegal,it had about 2 weeks of road dirt on it, a deep dint down to bare metal on the wing, a post collision damaged front bumper and a piss poor repair to the rear bumper.It was a dog and in far worse condition than my 2003 Astra van,what a waste of a morning to look at this. I really don't understand how they would try to sell a vehicle in such poor condition and tell me its in good condition over the phone and waste my time.Cowboys, beware. read more

Bought a very cheap runabout for £700.00 for a mate. He only wanted it for 6 months until he bought a new one. Had my suspicions that the car wouldn't last but was assured by the dealer it would last 10 years. It lasted less than 10 hours! When we rang the dealer he initially tried to avoid all responsibility. He then sent 2 mechanics to fix the car who were off hand. They said it was an cheap and easy job to repair. It was the head gasket! Even the dealer knew it was an expensive job and he reluctantly offered to refund the car which he did. I believe he sold the car from scrap. He has a good selection of cheap cars but is off hand and not customer focused. I don't think he knew the car he sold to us was crap but he should have known. Would not recommend. read more

Great car ! I was looking for a nice BMW coupe and we looked everywhere only to find one right on the doorstep ! The salesman was very helpful and everything went well - as it should. Now five months on and fingers crossed we havent had an ounce of bother with the car and my initial reservations of buying a BMW (running costs etc) have been blown out the window. We would recommend Moston Car Sales again to anyone looking for a nice car from a business that wants to please ! read more

We have just collected our 3rd car in 7 years from Moston Cars in Chester, we purchased a Porsche in 2009 which is still running well and the new car a Range Rover we are more than pleased with. The staff did all they could to accommodate us and help with our private plate transfer. The car was as described and we received a far trade price for our old Land Rover. We are happy to use them again and to recommend them. read more

Put a deposit down on a car at moston car sales after they were helpful and friendly,the day I return to pick the car up staff were rude and uncooperative, the car hadn't even been cleaned out from the last owner there was all fag ash on the carpets and the exterior was filthy, I would advise anyone to stay clear of these cowboys read more

Brought a volvo v50 a few years back from these cost me 4 thousand pound and the same again to make it road worthy.! These are a bunch of rip off people with no care for your well being just want to take your cash and sell you somthing thst belongs in the scrap yard at best please never buy from there read more

Saw a Range Rover Vouge advertised at Moston Car Sales called in to view and found the sales staff very helpful had a test drive and bought car. The car was to be collected next day and was ready to collect as agreed. Car has performed perfect with out any issues and would buy from them again. read more

I am very suprized at some on the reviews i have purchesed 3 cars from Moston Car Sales and they have always been good guys to deal with. Cars are very good value and the salesman doesnt chase you around the Garage just lets you take your own time to look at the cars. read more
