We were staying in Old Town and I got the impression you could really only find very expensive, designer ones or touristy, low quality ones. After a lot of research, I saw Trachten Rausch come up multiple times. I walked to the store and was immediately greeted by a young saleswoman who figured out my size quickly and whisked me away to a small changing room. She brought a few options, helped me in and out of them and we settled on two final options - both reasonably priced (do not expect to spend less than 150 euro on anything quality). I chose the one I wanted and was rung up and out the door. Both sales women I spoke with spoke excellent English and didn't make me feel bad about my very poor German speaking skills. This was an excellent experience - the dirndls are beautiful and I'm excited to wear mine!

Trust me when I say women get good service here and English speaking men are out of luck. The service is rushed and pressured. The male employee was pushy and didn't even know how to size me. I shopped multiple stores in Munich and found Angermaier near Marienplatz to be amazing. The selection for both men and women was fantastic. The employees are friendly and educated. The prices are not low end but they have mid and upper level stuff. I don't write reviews to punish a business, but I know there are people like me who want the full Oktoberfest experience and buying traditional clothes in a foreign country is confusing. My experience was bad here and world class somewhere else.

Another try for my friend to find an accessory to finish off her Oktoberfest outfit, Original…read moreSteindl carries the drindls and lederhosen outfits you're going to need if you want to fit in at the Theresenweise. It's a little on the spendy side and on this Friday evening in the height of the season, the place was packed full. Lots to choose from, lots of great stuff, but the prices are definitely high and that's taking into account the Euros to Dollars conversion rate. So if you're looking for traditional clothes and not too concerned about costs, this is the spot. [Review 12002 overall, 1785 of 2019.]

So you're in Munich for the Oktoberfest but forgot to pack your lederhosen...where shall you go to…read morefind a reasonable pair??? Original Steindl is a Mecca for all the requisite apparel for the Oktoberfest. They carry everything you possibly could want for the semi-authentic experience down the correct socks and traditional Bavarian shoes. Expect a very very very crowded store (like going to a costume shop the day before Halloween). Original Steindl was packed...so packed that the queue for the changing rooms was 20 deep...the staff insisted we just try on our new outfits in the middle of the store. Sure enough I dropped to my boxer shorts (yes they were clean) while a gaggle of tourists watched whilst drinking wine (the store seems to provide wine for some but not to me and my mates). The staff with their broken English was helpful (and perhaps a bit too forceful) ensuring things fit (lots of stretching of the leather straps). It was all very amusing and a unique start to the Oktoberfest experience, but needless to say I was very happy to be fully clothed again, make my purchase, and be done with Original Steindl once and for all. Prices are um "reasonable" for Oktoberfest attire purchased during the Oktoberfest. Expect to pay +/-150 euro for your suede overalls and +/- 20 euro for the checkered shirts. Cash only (unless you happen to have a German debit card), but don't fear there is a cash machine across the street.

This is a little Bavarian clothing store connected to the Platzl Hotel on Sparkassenstraße. This…read moreshop is amazing and has what I would assume to be very authentic and finely hand crafted Bavarian style clothing including mens lederhosen, belts, hats, shirts, vests and of course, those wonderful dirndls. Pretty much everything looks handmade. The nice woman working there has been there for years, is friendly and speaks pretty good English. After visiting this shop before but never buying anything, this year I finally got myself a nice Bavarian button down shirt which I love. I wanted to buy more but things are quote expensive here. If you are in the area, its worth a stop here.

The store is smaller than many but packed with beautiful items. That is where the goodness ended for us. The two ladies working were rude and taciturn. They followed us closely, monitoring, watching like hawks. But did they inquire how they could help? Oh no. Not even when we expressed interest in knowing how the garments were laid out so we did not search through all of the racks. One grumbled when we asked to go up to the female section. Once there, the grumbling women physically stood in the way of a section, explaining that the items there were handmade and +$600. These were the ones that we were interested in based on our research; however, this woman just frowned and said that if we wanted to look, she would pull and handle the garment. It made it hard to look... especially since she was still in the way... We understand the delicacy of the materials and quality of construction. If you have a specific way that you want things handled, tell your customers... nicely. If we cannot see the section, we clearly won't be able to decide which garment to look at, and our unworthy fingers will never touch the dirndl to try on and buy. Feeling very unwelcome, we left empty handed and shelled out the cash at a worthier establishment.
