So you're in Munich for the Oktoberfest but forgot to pack your lederhosen...where shall you go to find a reasonable pair??? Original Steindl is a Mecca for all the requisite apparel for the Oktoberfest. They carry everything you possibly could want for the semi-authentic experience down the correct socks and traditional Bavarian shoes.
Expect a very very very crowded store (like going to a costume shop the day before Halloween). Original Steindl was packed...so packed that the queue for the changing rooms was 20 deep...the staff insisted we just try on our new outfits in the middle of the store. Sure enough I dropped to my boxer shorts (yes they were clean) while a gaggle of tourists watched whilst drinking wine (the store seems to provide wine for some but not to me and my mates). The staff with their broken English was helpful (and perhaps a bit too forceful) ensuring things fit (lots of stretching of the leather straps). It was all very amusing and a unique start to the Oktoberfest experience, but needless to say I was very happy to be fully clothed again, make my purchase, and be done with Original Steindl once and for all.
Prices are um "reasonable" for Oktoberfest attire purchased during the Oktoberfest. Expect to pay +/-150 euro for your suede overalls and +/- 20 euro for the checkered shirts. Cash only (unless you happen to have a German debit card), but don't fear there is a cash machine across the street. read more
